Joseph Rainns and Sharah Fayth walked down one of the various corridors on Challenger. The young man held the doctor’s hand as they moved along at a fairly slow pace. “I wish there was more to do on a starship.” Rainns said out loud. “I know we have holodecks, but I prefer real things to beams of light.” He paused as they came up by a window showing some sort of nebula in a nearby sector. “Just seeing this is better because at least I know this is real.”

Fayth stared out the window. “For everything we know, there is still such mystery and awe in the stars.” She chuckles, “Or maybe that’s just because I’m a doctor and I have no idea what is really out there.” She nodded contemplating, “I prefer real places and things to the holodeck. But the experience is much different for me. It’s unique because I actually get to experience social settings with out my gift. Holodeck characters have no thoughts, no feelings. I can’t anticipate, telepathically, what will happen. I can even, at least for a little while, have a pet or ride a horse.” Her face is crossed with sadness.
