Rainns nodded, “Hopefully you will,” He followed suit and also put his plate in the replicator. “I have not, waiting for a few more cadets to join the crew before I dive into that.” He took a drink from his glass. “Alright, time for some real talk, small talk is over now.” He felt a little nervous broaching the next subject, but he simply breathed in and continued. “What do you see us as going forward?”

Sharah started to smile, she knew how much they both hated small talk, but a look of shock momentarily crossed her face. It wasn’t that she didn’t know what he was thinking, but she hadn’t thought too deeply about it, yet. “Oh well....um....” She sipped her water and took a deep breath to collect her thoughts. “I guess realistically, we’re posted to a cadet ship, and neither of use will be here long. In that vein I would like to say that we will be good friends, closer friends, for a long time. But,” she paused for a moment, “that’s not what I want. I want, I hope, we can have more than that.”
‘This,’ she reached out to him, ‘this intimacy with you is not something I want to give up. I could never have this with anyone else. There are many Betazoids who can, but I’m not like them. Here,’ she squeezed his hand, ‘here I am accepted, here I have found more than just a friend, here I can be all of myself and I can accept all of you. Here,’ she stopped out of nervousness.

Rainns nodded as Fayth talked. “Yeah I agree that on a practical level, it would be best to be very good friends. ‘But for once in my life, I don’t care about practicality’ Rainns switched to his thoughts in a sense publicly stating one position, but elaborating on it in such a fashion as to show the intimacy the two shared. ‘I certainly will never find another woman like you, who can be a person to be able to share so much with despite saying little.’ He gazed into Sharah’s eyes once again, as it was quickly becoming one of his favorite things to do. ‘I want more too Sharah.’

Every time he looked in her eyes she wanted to blush, but that wasn’t the conversation so she pulled her mind away from that, even though he heard it. ‘Then what do we do? I’m not willing to give up. I’ll never find someone else like you, and I don’t want to. This,’ meaning the connection they had made, ‘gives us both peace, belonging, safety, tranquility, home.’ That word clicked into her head and some of her research started to make sense, she pushed it aside for a moment, she would not be distracted. ‘If you are willing to try with me, then we’ll figure it out?’

‘Nothing wrong with blushing Sharah’ Joseph responded, not breaking eye contact . ‘I want to be a home for you. Be somebody to look out for you and give you all the comfort and security you desire.’ Rainns exhaled deeply, his mind overrun with the various emotional responses he was dealing with. ‘I’m more than willing to try and make this work’

‘Oh, that’s good because you tend to make me do that a lot,’ while blushing another shade redder. She moved deeper into his mind allowing the overrun to hit her first and filter into a smoother stream before flowing back to him. ‘You aren’t the only one who can do crazy things like that.’ Sharah knew he wasn’t really comfortable discussing emotions and she wanted to help.
She squeezed his hand, “So how do we do that. Do they even allow new graduates to request a ship? If not we could always make the request after, there’s shore leave.” She stopped and took a deep breath before she started rambling and slipped back into telepathy. ‘Maybe, first we should decide what we are going to do, now, in the present, to make the most of the time we have, here, while worrying about the rest?’

The way Sharah calmed down his thoughts was very soothing to Joseph. As she squeezed his hand he simply held a firm grip. “Honestly, I have no idea, I’ll have to look into that.” As Sharah slipped back into verbally silent communication. Rainns pondered what to say. ‘Well I guess the only thing we can do is just spend the time we have now with each other.’

‘I like the sound of that.’ She let out the breath she had been half holding. “Well, now that the serious talk is over…any ideas for the rest of the night?” Her voice as a little shaky, apparently she had been more nervous than she realized. Smiling ruefully, “I think, perhaps, something calming or distracting. I know we both have early shifts tomorrow, but I have time before I have to leave.”

Joseph took a deep breath. ‘Glad you think so’ before he made a single thought to give away what his next intention was. He quickly leaned over and planted a quick kiss on her lips that was no more than 2 seconds. “How about that?” He asked with a smile.

The kiss effectively stopped her nerves, but it did up her heart rate. “I think that was a wonderful idea. Very distracting, We could do that a lot.” She leaned in and kissed him softly, keeping a hold of his hand. She pulled back just a bit.
