Rainns looked over at the map on the wall. “Not much to say about it honestly. It’s where myself and my family have grown up for generations. It’s just a small reminder of my origins. If you lose sight of where you come from, you lose sight of where you are going. It’s just a reminder of my identity, and a place that I will always treasure and strive to get back to some day, after I run my course here in Starfleet.” He turned to back to Sharah, “Hope that answers your question.”
Lt. JG. Joseph Rainns- COS
“Actually, I meant the real place not the map. Everything in here is meant to remind you of what you do and why you do it. I feel that as you look around the room. From your love of history to your competitive nature and desire to sharpen your mind,” she said nodding to the globe and then the box of games. The bibliophile in her was itching to look at his collection of books. “So you’ll go back when you retire? I don’t know where I would go.”
Cadet Fayth, DoctorRainns leaned his head back,” Ooooohhhh, ok, It’s a coastal region on the North American Continent. Weather is pretty nice, it does get hot for about six months, but it cools down for another four and is mild in two. It’s a region filled with friendly people and great food. it’s the kind of place that has instilled the values I let guide my life, loyalty, hard work, and dedication.” He got up and got a glass of water. “Go home to somewhere you like, somewhere where you love being alive.”
Lt. JG. Joseph Rainns- COS
“It sounds lovely.” She had to think about that one. “There really isn’t a place I love being alive. Hospitals, doctors, huge crowds of people. I love my parents home.
I grew up there. I don’t mean to give the wrong impression, but they tend to be....well you spoke to my brother. My parents are 100 times worse. Maybe I’ll find a place like that during my time with Star Fleet.” She finished her food and placed the dishes in the replicator to be reclaimed. She sat back at the table. “Have you started that training program you were telling me about?”
Cadet Fayth, DoctorRainns nodded, “Hopefully you will,” He followed suit and also put his plate in the replicator. “I have not, waiting for a few more cadets to join the crew before I dive into that.” He took a drink from his glass. “Alright, time for some real talk, small talk is over now.” He felt a little nervous broaching the next subject, but he simply breathed in and continued. “What do you see us as going forward?”
Lt. JG. Joseph Rainns- COS
Sharah started to smile, she knew how much they both hated small talk, but a look of shock momentarily crossed her face. It wasn’t that she didn’t know what he was thinking, but she hadn’t thought too deeply about it, yet. “Oh well....um....” She sipped her water and took a deep breath to collect her thoughts. “I guess realistically, we’re posted to a cadet ship, and neither of use will be here long. In that vein I would like to say that we will be good friends, closer friends, for a long time. But,” she paused for a moment, “that’s not what I want. I want, I hope, we can have more than that.”
‘This,’ she reached out to him, ‘this intimacy with you is not something I want to give up. I could never have this with anyone else. There are many Betazoids who can, but I’m not like them. Here,’ she squeezed his hand, ‘here I am accepted, here I have found more than just a friend, here I can be all of myself and I can accept all of you. Here,’ she stopped out of nervousness.
Cadet Fayth, DoctorRainns nodded as Fayth talked. “Yeah I agree that on a practical level, it would be best to be very good friends. ‘But for once in my life, I don’t care about practicality’ Rainns switched to his thoughts in a sense publicly stating one position, but elaborating on it in such a fashion as to show the intimacy the two shared. ‘I certainly will never find another woman like you, who can be a person to be able to share so much with despite saying little.’ He gazed into Sharah’s eyes once again, as it was quickly becoming one of his favorite things to do. ‘I want more too Sharah.’
LT JG Joseph Rainns-COS
Every time he looked in her eyes she wanted to blush, but that wasn’t the conversation so she pulled her mind away from that, even though he heard it. ‘Then what do we do? I’m not willing to give up. I’ll never find someone else like you, and I don’t want to. This,’ meaning the connection they had made, ‘gives us both peace, belonging, safety, tranquility, home.’ That word clicked into her head and some of her research started to make sense, she pushed it aside for a moment, she would not be distracted. ‘If you are willing to try with me, then we’ll figure it out?’
