Sharah had finally been cleared off of restricted activity. She was working full shifts now and was ready to do more than sit in her quarters. She wanted to get out. Arguing over most introverted? What was I talking about? Actually she didn’t want to be around people so much as get out and stretch her legs. Challenger was a small ship and by now everyone knew about the crazy doctor. She wasn’t looking forward to the rumors and stares and questions from her fellow cadets.
She was ashamed of her behavior, but more, extremely disappointed in herself for not recognizing her behaviors as symptoms of something going wrong. Of course, she knew there was nothing she could have done. The parasite not only disrupted her telepathy but had made her synapses misfire. Her doctor on Betazed was impressed she had functioned so well. He surmised that a less powerful telepath would have collapsed much sooner with more devastating results. Of course they wouldn’t know until someone else was infected, and Sharah hoped that would never happen.
At her request, the medical staff had reviewed all the work she had done. Luckily no one had been injured or mis-diagnosed.
“Sharah knock it off. Be proud of yourself for doing so well. Get out of your quarters before you start talking to yourself.” She smirked at her very bad joke and walked out her door. She contemplated the arboretum, but she always went there. She enjoyed the solitude, but she didn’t feel like sitting staring at plants right now.
She began to pace down the corridor, no real destination in mind, just wanting to walk.
As Fayth neared a juncture in the corridor, Cadet McMorran flew around the corner and barrelled straight into her. McMorran let out a breathy shout, “Yoww!”, and recoiled. Dressed in her dark running gear, the cadet was breathing heavily. An obvious layer of sweat had formed across her features. “I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have come round like that.” Aili was aware that something had been up with Sharah although the other cadets and staff had all been professional in not openly discussing her private concerns. Doubled over with her hands on her knees as she caught her breath, the cadet reckoned she should dispense some positivity. “You look well! It’s good to see you up and around.”
