Great, a musician, Rainns copied some notes down, “Well if we ever need a bard in the holodeck I’ll let you know.” He clicked is pen and smiled. “Do you consider yourself t be a team player or do you work better alone?”

Kyle couldn’t help but smirk at that. I’ll hold you to that, he thought. Pressing on with the Question, he began, “A bit of both, I can play well in groups, but can also go it alone if the need arises. I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades in some senses.” Though he hated to admit it to himself, he was struggling to work out whether Rainns liked him or not.

Rainns eyes were on his clipboard as his pen moved across the paper. “What are your weaknesses?” He asked, “anything that you need to improve on or any habits that may be counterproductive to your duty?” After asking the question the Lieutenant took another sip of water.

Ok here we go, the difficult questions, Kyle thought to himself. “I’d say my only weakness is that I tend not to take time for myself as much as I should. Always trying to help where I can I suppose.” Anders’ eyes flitted towards the replicator behind the desk, his mouth suddenly very dry. He cleared his throat, “Sorry, do you mind? I’m gagging for a drink!”

-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

Rainns looked up from his clipboard, “By all means Cadet,” he motioned toward the replicator, “Get whatever you need.” He paused his line of questioning until the Cadet had returned to his seat.

Kyle nodded thankfully and approached the replicator, “Computer, one Detorian Fruit Swirl.” (OOC: A fancy way of saying Juice) He quickly swigged the drink and returned to the desk, feeling much more relaxed.

“What are your career goals?” Rainns asked after Anders had taken his seat again.

“Honestly,” Anders said, almost uncertainly, “I’d love my own command, but I know I’m gonna have to work damn hard to get there.” Kyle came to realise that his confidence was coming back to him.

Rainns nodded and wrote a small annotation in his notes, again, the Cadet reflected the chief’s own ambitions. “Well Cadet, hopefully you’ve got the work effort to get you a starship, but for now.” He said with a smile, “I want to make sure you can be trusted with the responsibility of your ship and crewmate’s lives, which based off our little chat, I think you might be able too.” Rainns put the pen and clipboard down on his desk, he placed his notes down in such an angle that if Anders dared to look at them he would see a clause in all caps, I HATE PIANO. “Do you have any comments or concerns Cadet?” Rainns said to Anders, judging him closely to see how Anders would react.

Kyle glanced down at the clipboard noticed the clause, held back a laugh, and said “Nothing too pressing at the moment Lieutenant,” he paused, daring himself to end with a cheeky comment, “I hope to see you in the Holodeck at my first performance.”

Rainns gave a deadpan, “Excellent Cadet, if that is all, you are dismissed, go ahead and get your other check in’s done so you are ready for duty shortly.” He paused and added, “As for the Holodeck, don’t count on it.”

Worth a try, Kyle thought to himself. The Cadet rose from his seat, said: “Thank you, sir,” and made his way out of the office.

About an hour after Anders left Rainns’ office the console beeped with an incoming message.
Cadet Anders has passed his physical exam. However he has some elevated adrenaline levels caused by over active synapses. In of itself it is not dangerous or life threatening. However a constant flow of adrenaline can impair reaction times and composure under stressful situations. Cadet Anders has been recommended to join the Mok’Bara class for meditative purposes to help lower the adrenaline levels. If possible please allow for his schedule to allow time for this. If this will interfere with his regular duties schedule please refer him back to sickbay to find alternative programs.
