OOC: Welcome to STF! couple of pointers for future posts, we write in the past tense, as I have done below, posts usually also discuss more than what a person is doing, but also what they are saying and thinking as well. So don’t be afraid to write more about your character as you interact with others throughout the sims. Final Note, we always use a “signature” to sign off our posts, that way everybody knows where one post both starts and ends. Your signature would be “Cadet Samuel McIntyre- Security” again I have provided an example below. Just remember those tips and have fun!

Joseph Rainns sat in his new office, sitting behind the desk was still a new sensation to the young lieutenant, and more than once he was carried away by the bravado that his new position bestowed upon him. On the morning of his check in, he expected to be more nervous, but, surprisingly to him, he felt nothing but confidence when he sat at his desk. The room was still extremely barren, as he had yet to move his personal effects in yet, but that would change shortly and Rainns was anxious to give the COS office the touch up it needed to express the man with the job. As the young security officer entered the room Rainn calmly turned toward him. “At ease Cadet” he instructed, sending goosebumps down his own back. He was living his dream, “Take a seat Mr. McIntyre,” he motioned to the chair on the other side of the desk.

Sam would stand at ease his movements towards the chair were that of strict training and being raised in a military family. Sam would sit comfortably but straight up “Congratulations on your promotion Lt. Rainns.”

Cadet Samuel McIntyre- Security

“Thank you Cadet” Rainns responded with a small smirk. “You are my first check in, so hopefully this doesn’t fall apart in the next five minutes.” Rainns picked up a Padd and pulled up McIntyre’s personnel file. “Well Mr. McIntyre this is a fairly informal process, but I just have a few questions to ask, don’t overthink your answers please.” He put the padd down on the desk. “Why have you decided to enlist in starfleet?”

Sam looks at his commanding officer with the respect he deserves ” Your very welcome Lt. ” Sam replied ” You ask why did I join Starfleet has been apart of my family now for 4 generations of my family I am the 4th sir and it’s the only family I have left I am expertly trained in phasers and rifles and expertly trained in hand to hand combat.” Sam replied again his face nor tone changed as he staired dead in to the Lt. Rainns eyes but it was respectfully since he was speaking to a senior officer.

OOC: Remember to always right in past tense and sign off with your signature, and make sure to include punctuation, it just makes it easier to read.

IC: Rainns nodded at the cadets response, the Cadet’s intense stare left the lieutenant unphased. “Very good, why the draw to combat and weapon training?”

McIntyre nods back to Rainns ” Honestly sir! I never really had a choice my father and grandfather made sure I knew how to shoot and fight so not only could I defend myself and join Starfleet. I was 4th generation Starfleet who was I to argue so all I did was train and here I sit before you sir. But like we heard no body is perfect and some just really aren’t given an opportunity to choose there path I was a natural athlete and they knew it sir.

Cadet Samuel A. McIntyre- Security

Rainns pondered over the eager cadet’s answers. “So with all that said Cadet, other than your technical abilities, what other elements do you bring that can contribute to this ship’s security?”

Looking at the Lt. Sam pondered the question long and hard, “Honestly sir this is the part were either I get kicked out or I would have to learn other tools of the trade. This is all I know I never learned other languages or to fly or to work on ships or people!. All I’ve been called is big dumb and stupid sir!! all I can do is fight and the most I’d ever amount to is a grunt nothing more nothing less sir!

Cadet Samuel McIntyre - Security Officer

“I’m not talking about the tangible qualities that you have Cadet, I’m referring to your intangible skills and abilities.” Rainns responded, tapping his finger on the surface of his desk.

” My apologizes Lt. I am a hard worker and dont know the meaning of the word quite, leadership,communication,awareness and intelligent sir. I want a command of my own someday Lt.”

Cadet Samuel McIntyre Security officer

Rainns made a few notes and then continued, “One final question cadet, What would you say are your guiding principles in life? What kind of morals and ethics do you live by?” RAinns wanted to try and understand not just who McIntyre was as a cadet, but he wanted to know what kind of person the young man was, and whether his personality would be compatible for working in a security team.

“My work ethic is one of them sir this is a job charged with protecting the ship its crew and distinguished guest sir. This job is also my life and part of my family history sir, i have a thing I was trained to never leave a man behind and if your gonna do a job do it right dont do it half ass sir. I know we could be called upon to do things such as diplomatic situations to ground teams sir!”

Cadet Samuel McIntyre- Security Officer

Rainns nodded, “No reason to raise your voice cadet, we are just having a friendly conversation. Make sure you have a life outside of the job as well Cadet. Work is an important part of your life for sure, but always remember you have to have something to work for.” Rainns pondered for a moment, “Do you have any questions about what is expected from you Cadet?”

” My apologizes Lt. for the rasied voice sir. I have a goal in mind and dead set on it I’ll earn it, as for what is expected of me Lt. Rainns what are your expectations sir!”

Cadet Samuel McIntyre- Security Officer

Rainns sat back in his chair, “Well Cadet, I expect you will be able to follow orders and put this ship and its crew ahead of yourself. I also expect that you will be able to work well with your fellow security officers, if you cannot then I don’t think I need to explain that your service will be sadly cut short.”

” Yes Sir!, I understand completely sir. I do know how to follow orders and work with a team sir. The needs of the ship and my crew come first Lt.

Cadet Samuel McIntyre Security Officer

“Excellent Cadet, I believe that concludes our little chat. If you haven’t already I recommend you get your physical and psychological check up’s. I look forward to working with you in the near future, dismissed.” Rainns smiled and motioned to the door, he had several matters to attend to, but was relieved that the check in had gone smoothly and not off the rails.

Sam had stood up ” Before I go Lt. You should be getting my physical from Lt. Mika sir, as for Lt. Commander Korczak I have no idea sir only seen him once sir. But I will take my leave since I’ve been dismissed, pleasure to meet you and look forward to working with you sir.”
