IC:
Sharah spent two full weeks confined to sickbay. The first few days were disorienting in a way that Sharah hadn’t experienced before. The voices had been dimmed a great deal, and it was very strange to not have the constant static and background noise. She knew this was probably due to the amount of damage the parasite had caused. The scientific part of her mind briefly wondered if the parasite could be used to help others like herself, but quickly dismissed it as far too dangerous. The medical staff had determined she had been exposed through touch. When she boarded her last transport the vegetable container had fallen open and spilled. She had helped to clean up the mess in the small cargo ship’s corridor. It had wreaked havoc on her and almost killed her.
The third night her telepathy had returned full force and the suddenness had woke her up screaming. The high increase of Psilosynine and brain activity had been painful. She was told it was because of the lesions still healing in her brain. She was given a low dose sedative to help her go back to sleep. The next morning, she was severely lectured to NOT use telepathy. The irony was that she couldn’t turn it off, but she made her best effort to let the information flow rather than control it.
By the fourth day in sickbay, Sharah was driving everyone crazy. She wanted something to do. She wasn’t allowed visitors and staring at the beige ceiling and bright lights of sickbay was driving Her crazy. She was allowed to contact her family and her doctor on Betazed. Her doctor reminded her of several activities and non-medical treatments they had used when she had been hospitalized when she was 15 that she could use now. The nurses told Sharah that the doctors on Betazed were sending messages to Lt Mika nonstop to ask about the parasite and the research she was conducting on it. Over the next several days, the haze of the days leading up to her collapse began to clear and she was able to sort through the memories. She remembered helping Jill and her own distress over the little girl’s pain and anger. Sharah had attempted to make the little girl less angry through her empathic abilities, which she normally would not have done, apparently it worked, but that is what had tipped her right over the edge. She knew now that she had recognized something was wrong, but as sick as she was, she had been unable to put together the pieces. She also remembered Lt. Rainns coming and asking her questions, but she had been unable to answer. She wrote a statement and sent it to him. She knew he would probably still want to interview her, but she didn’t know if her strict no visitor’s policy applied to official ship’s business. She knew she had been, at that moment she was in the security office, very dangerous to the crew. She still wasn’t sure why she had decided to do target practice, but she considered herself lucky that Joseph had found her first.
The last few days in sickbay she had been allowed some light medic duties of calibrating equipment and upkeep. She sat on her biobed mostly but at least it was something to do.
“Please? My quarters are away from EVERYONE. No ONE comes down there. Please can I just go back to my quarters? I won’t go anywhere.” Sharah begged the on-duty doctor. He shook his head; over all she had been very calm about being stuck here for so long. “You’ve been cleared Cadet Fayth. You can go back to your quarters. But you are on VERY light duty for the next week, and although we can’t restrict your off-duty activities, we all strongly feel you should limit any activity for awhile until you adjust. There are also messages from your doctors on Betazed waiting for you.” The NE doctor handed Fayth a PaDD with all her instructions. It was late so not many people would be up. There was one thing she wanted to take with her, and she grabbed it. Before she could get out the door NE doctor stopped her. “Cadet Fayth, you have to wait for NE Nurse. She’ll escort you back to your quarters.” Sharah groaned and rolled her eyes. She waited as patiently as possible so they could leave. Her wry sense of humor bubbled up. The only thing she needed now was an official security escort for everyone to know how weird she was. When NE nurse started towards her, Sharah was half way out the door.
