‘Was…was he mad at me?’ you get the impression that Andrew’s opinion really matters to her. NE nurse gives Fayth the sedative that Dr. Mika had ordered. Sharah stops clawing at her scalp and after several minutes her breathing and heart rate slow noticeably, but not nearly enough.

The ship manifest showed that several pieces of cargo had come aboard at the same time as Fayth. Several pieces of cargo were still under quarantine in cargo bay 2 on deck 6 next to the shuttle bay where transport ship had docked. Quarantine of items was only used when civilian ships transported cargo. As a general consensus their bio filters aren’t as good and Star Fleet.

OOC: I’m going to start a cargo bay thread so this doesn’t get too long.

Rainns eyes lit up, “I’ll be checking the cargo bays if you need me,” he replied to the nurse. ‘No’ he responded to Fayth, ‘he was worried.’ Rainns turned and left sickbay, quickly walking towards the cargo bay.

Mika nodded in agreement with the nurse. “Two weeks of symptoms isn’t common. If she was boarding the Challenger when symptoms presented, it is entirely possible she caught or began developing whatever this is before she came to the ship. Though, the Cargo Bay check is certainly not a waste of time…” She said, thinking. The whole thing was incredibly puzzling to the doctor, and she still hadn’t any idea what this could be. Turning to the NE Nurse and an NE doctor, she said, “Keep an eye on her vitals. And rescan her every few hours. I don’t want to miss anything.”

Alarms on the bio bed began to go off loudly. The the biobed monitor showed a sudden spike of Psilosynine and then an almost complete drop, followed by a dangerously high heart rate.

Mika raced over to the bed, along with a few other doctors. “Psilosynine is spiking!” said one of them, and then “It’s dropping! Quickly, she needs more!” “Hold it!” Mika said, frowning. “Give her something to lower her heart rate. But do not boost the psilosynine. If it spikes again, a boost would be bad news.”

OOC: Pulling from Rainns investigation in the cargo bay
IC: NE Nurse ran over, “Dr. Mika. Lt Rainss discovered a contaminated cargo bin in cargo bay 2. It came on board at the same time as Cadet Fayth. I set up a containment area in bio lab 1. ” She handed over a PaDD, “here is the bio filter report from the Cargo bay of what the microb looks like. It doesn’t register on any database.”

Mika nodded. “I want it quarantined but kept alive. I’d have to resign as a doctor if we didn’t study this new microb. And we’ll be able to find a cure now, to save Cadet Fayth.” She said. “Whatever you do with it, be careful. We don’t know who it infects, how it infects, or how infectious it is, which makes it very dangerous.”

After configuring the tricorder to scan for the unknown organism the tricorder registered thousands of them, all in Sharah’s paracortex. Further scanning showed they were feeding on the Psilosynine in her brain. That explained the spikes. They were eating faster than her body produced it. They were also causing scaring and lesions in her paracortex. The paracortex spreads out and is connected to all parts of the brain, explaining her erratic behaviors and sudden difficulty with the amount of telepathic input she received on a daily basis.

NE Nurse returns from the bio lab, “Lt. Mika, they are all dead. There are no living specimins in the container.” After taking a biopsy sample of the organism Lt. Mika has a long night in bio lab and experimentation shows that the parasite has a short life span normally. The Psilosynine sent them into a frenzy. It was short work to create an anti-parasitic to administer through a hypospray. Sharah would require several doses over the next 2 days to ensure the parasite would be removed from her brain.

“Dr. Mika, should I take some of that down and check out Lt. Rainns. He’s not telepathic but incase he’s carrying it so it won’t spread back to Cadet Fayth or any other telepaths on board? Plus he’s been stuck in Cargo Bay 2 for almost 18 hours. The cargo bay went into lock down when the biofilters detected the parasite.” NE Nurse says.

Junior Lieutenant Mika had spent all night experimenting and studying the parasite. It was in the early morning that she returned to the Sickbay and spoke to the nurse. “Yes, treat Rainns and let him out of the Cargo Bay. I’m sure he has work of his own to attend to… and get those parasites out of my Cadet.” She felt that it likely did have effects on humans as well as betazoids, but the Psilosynine had sent them into a frenzy in Fayth. She theorized that Rainns would also have become symptomatic had they allowed the infection to worsen. But she was glad they’d caught it.
