Sharah walked down and entered an office to ask if she could use the range. She told the NE Security officer what she wanted, and he just stared at her. “I’m really horrible and I wanted to get in some practice. Is that alright?”

The door behind the Doctor opened and a familiar voice broke the silence, “Since when do doctors go shooting in the phaser range?” Rainns had arrived to relieve the officer on duty for the day, and was surprised to see Sharah standing in the room when he entered.

Sharah for once, was surprised, she hadn’t felt him coming. The anger bubbling up like a gyser, she spun around and snapped, “Because basic weapons proficiency is required for graduation, and I don’t have it yet.” She stopped abruptly, ‘Oh....I’m in trouble now.’ “Sorry, Lt. I…umm.” Sharah swallowed and realized she probably needed to leave. “Never mind, Sir. I appologize. Today’s probably not a good idea.” She hadn’t heard him, the noise was too loud. The past almost two weeks she’d known that distinctive pattern anywhere.

Rainns held up a hand to the Doctor for a moment, he then dismissed the officer on duty and told him to have a pleasant rest of the evening. The young man then paced around to the other side of the desk and sat down, “First of all,” he began, “I’m still on duty, so this is not a social gathering, therefore I have not lost the bet.” He smirked, “but seriously, do you actually need to use the shooting range right now because you are scared you won’t graduate?”

Sharah turned in place watching him move across the room. She couldn’t hear him…at all…he…something was wrong with her. She focused on his words, processing them slowly, she didn’t even smile at his jab about the bet, she just nodded in acknowledgement. “No…I guess not right now. I....I do need the practice, I…” she wasn’t sure why at that moment she had choosen the phaser range. What had prompted it....she looked at him, clearly confused, “you aren’t there.” No…he had to be…He’d done it! What ever he was thinking was very focused, she’d found it, but why hadn’t she....Her vision went fuzzy. She tried to breathe but…she was begin to hyperventilate. She was going to burn out. ‘Help’

Josephs smirk grew for a second, “I’ve been studying some Cardassian techniques, but I didn’t think it would be that effective…” He trailed off, his prideful smirk disappeared as he heard her voice in his head cry out. He quickly sat up from his chair and went around the desk to sit Fayth down. “You’re the doctor here, tell me what to do, verbally or non-verbally, I don’t care just tell me.” He said, a very slight amount of fear crept into his voice as he observed his friend in clear disorientation.

‘Focus…I…I need a focus.’ She didn’t know what to do. The last time this happened she’d blacked out from the strain and woke up in the hospital several days later. ‘Too loud…it’s too loud.’ She slid from the chair and put her head between her knees trying to stop the hyperventilation.

‘What about an Alpha Inducer?’ Rainns thought, ‘is there anything in sickbay I can get?’

She shook her head to the alpha wave inducer ‘too…too…complicated. Melorazine 50ml. sed..sed…sed..a..tive’ When he started to move she grabbed his hand. She should have asked Lt. Mika for help sooner. She was breathing shallowly but it had slowed down. ‘battle…sick bay…close.’ Her panic was flowing over into her words.

Seeing Fayth’s panic intensify Joseph felt it start to come over him, and he began to feel just as panicked as the Doctor, his body began to shaking and his own field of vision began to waiver. ’ NO’ he thought, he was not going to fall into the same state as Sharah. Rainns closed his eyes took a moment to calm himself, he flushed out the feeling and he felt his body stop shaking as she communicated to him. He opened his eyes, his field of vision restored, ‘I can do this’ his hand went to his combadge, =^= Rainns to sickbay, Medical Emergency, Security office deck 7, I need a 50 ml Melorazine sedative right now stat =^= In a few moments a doctor had rushed in with the requested sedative, after Rainns explained the situation to her, she administered the sedative, Rainns watched anxiously to see if the drug had any effect.

The Melorazine started working fairly quickly. It made her groggy and began to relax her. She wasn’t ready to open her eyes just yet. She let the doctor take her vitals. She kept breathing letting the sedative work. ‘The dams broke.’ Joseph had never heard her talk about a dam. She still had ahold of his hand. The noise was washing over her but the Melorazine made her not care. She focused on the physical contact, ‘I owe you dinner now.’ ‘There…a little girl…’ she was trying to figure out how she ended up down in the security office yelling about a phaser range. ‘what…what did I do?’

The doctor wanted her to move to sick bay, but Sharah shook her head. She wasn’t going to get up yet. The NE doctor looked Rainss, “Lt. I have to get back, I’m the only one on duty. I don’t want her to move too soon, but she won’t be able to go anywhere alone. If her breathing changes call me. Let me know when she’s ready and I can come back for her. Dr. Fayth.” She looked at Sharah, “I have to call Lt. Mika.”

Rainns nodded his head as the doctor left the room, “Will do doc,” he responded. He look down at Sharah, ‘What is going on?’ he thought to her, bewildered. His own concern was up, by was not as heightened as it had been moments before. He wanted understand what was going on in her head, ‘Any chance we could link, let me see what’s in your mind right now?’

She was very groggy, her breath slow and stead, ‘pain?’ she reached out to answer her own question and didn’t feel any, but he hadn’t been there, would she know? ‘I..’ she simply let the connection go. There was an image of multiple small dams in her head, the noise … Joseph saw the idea, it was a filter for what she was hearing, and it broke. She tried to convey the idea, she had been using it for several days. ‘Meditate after shift, release the dams’ she trailed off a bit sleepily, ‘not sleeping…Lt. Mika…waited too long. Needed help.’ The sudden over flow of all those thoughts hit her too hard and she couldn’t process it properly in the overflow. Her thoughts weren’t erratic, Joseph could tell she was getting sleepy from the sedative, but more from the sudden drop of adrenaline from the panic. ‘Little girl in sick bay…’ you got the impression she identified a little too much with the little girl’s helpless rage.

The little effort Joseph had put into stopping Fayth from being able to sense him dropped, He pushed his thoughts outward as much as he could so the Doctor could sense all his emotions and thoughts just as clear as anybody else’s. He gripped her hand tightly as suddenly he felt himself in her mind. He could see what happened, feel the disorientation, and sense the fustration that was building inside Fayth’s head. He began to irradiate feelings of order, calmness, and peace that existed in his mind and transfer some to Sharah, that way if she entered his mind hopefully it could act as a comforting agent to help bring her some peace. ’ You are welcome to come into my head’ he thought as he made sure he stayed open, ‘I’m sure its a little less chaotic at the moment.’

Sharah tried to push him back from cleaning up her head, ‘stop…that makes your head hurt. Been researching. Just words, no headache.’ In all the chaos his ordered mind was a haven. ‘how do you do it? Stay so clear’ She would love to have that mental strength, but she took his offer. ‘I won’t make it will I? I can’t make it 2 weeks in Star Fleet’ She was heartbroken ’ We thought the dams would work. What did I do wrong?’

Rainns smirked, ‘I don’t mind a small headache for this, the way I keep my head space so clean is just addressing an issue that threatens to stress me out immediately, that way negative thoughts can’t permeate my head. You can make it, you’ve made it this far already, now is not the time to accept defeat’ Joseph saw the mental dam that Sharah had spoken of, but it was blown apart. ‘who thought the dams would work?’ he asked curiously

‘I mind’ Sharah had to think hard before she answered, she’d made a promise she had to keep it. No it wouldn’t break the promise, ‘my new friend, Ashlyn. She helped me come up with it. I..had…hard day… she offered help. Practice every day.’ She felt sad to him, ‘can’t help others when I’m like this…not good doc for…for…patience.’ She wasn’t going to make it to sick bay with the meds. That was obvious. It was probably time to call Lt. Mika. Sharah’s head fell to the side, the meds working, her mind was still totally chaotic, but at least she was physically relaxed.

Rainns could feel reluctance on Sharah’s part to discuss the dam, but at the moment he didn’t care about that. As her head slumped, Joseph put his hand underneath it and lifted her up into a position where he could cradle her upper body, ‘stay with me doc’ he thought. He could tell she was phyiscally calmer, but the dam was still loosing water, in her mind, Rainns tried something that he didn’t think would work but it was something. He attempted to at least partially wall up the dam with his mental energy, to act as a momentary band aid as long as the link was active. He felt the surge of all her senses smash into his stable enviroment, but he withstood the surge, focusing his mental energy at the dam, hopefully blocking up at least part of the gap.

=^= NE Doctor to Lt. Mika. There was a medical emergency in the security office. You told us to tell you if something happened to Cadet Fayth. I had to leave her there to come back, but Lt. Rainss is supposed to call when she is able to move. =^=

‘Not going anywhere, don’t want to, it’s nice here.’ Sharah’s eyes flashed open, ‘how?’ The shock of what he had done brought her out of her stuppor some. No…no not too much, Joseph…not so hard…can’t be stopped …totally....you’re....oh…your intuition…yes I see now.’

Mika did not take medical emergency calls lightly. She raced down the halls of the ship, toting a med kit. When she is able to move? Did she get hurt somehow? Mika wondered, worriedly. Small and fit, Mika was a fast runner, and she was there in a matter of minutes, breathing heavily. “What happened?” She asked Lieutenant Rainns. She wanted answers quickly, to decide whether they needed to get Cadet Fayth to the Sickbay.

As shocked and relieved as she was for the respite she knew. Joseph had offered a refuge so he couldn’t hide it. ‘Joseph, stop…please. It won’t hurt me, you…you aren’t strong enough for all that…yet…one day…please you’ll loose your gift…please.’ She tried to remove the bandaid herself, but was too groggy to focus her thoughts to do it.

Sharah heard Lt Mika arrive. ‘Think she’ll be mad at me?’ She tried to wave, but her body was too groggy to respond.

Rainns pushed aside his own pain to respond to Mika. “She came in disoriented, and then collapsed, complaining about too much sound in her head,” Joseph looked down at Fayth, “I’m not really sure what else to tell you, she’s being overwhelmed by too much input into her paracortex it looks like.”

Mika nodded. “Let’s get her to Sickbay. We can try to control how many people are around her at a time, try to let her rest…” And then she looked at Fayth and said, “Is that okay, Cadet?” She wondered why Fayth was in the shooting range, but she decided to ask later. That was unimportant. Less knowledgeable than she wanted to be about what to do, she figured the best thing to do was try to relieve the mental strain on the Cadet. It didn’t help that even among Betazoids, Fayth’s condition was fairly rare.

Jospeh decided to break the link at this point, he couldn’t exert himself both physically and mentally at the same time. “Got it,” He responded to Mika, putting his arms under the doctors body and picking her up. “Let’s get moving,” He said in and urgent tone.

Mika nodded, heading back toward Sickbay, expecting Rainns to follow with Fayth. Thankfully, the Sickbay had not been as busy as usual lately, so she had several empty biobeds, and it would be easy to place Fayth away from anyone else, in a quieter corner of the Sickbay.

Sharah was relieved when Joseph left the link, but suddenly alone with the overwhelming thoughts again. She groaned a bit, but she hoped he only thought she was responding to the wooziness of being moved. She tried to imagine the dam repaired but didn’t have the focus for it. She tried to surf above it again, or at least float. She was so tired.

‘Hang in there Sharah’ Joseph thought as he followed Mika, arriving at sickbay he was relieved to notice that there were several empty biobeds. He gently placed her on one, ‘I’m here if you need me’ he thought. He then walked over to Mika. “What’s the plan?” He asked with a tone of concern. Rainns still has a large amount of ringing in his head, but he ignored it.

“The most we can do is let her rest… give her mind time to recoup.” Mika’s voice carried concern, but her expression said said she was none too happy with the whole situation. She thought she was quite clear with Fayth to ask for help when she needed it. She’d have that talk once Fayth had recovered.
