IC– Sharah enterd sickbay. She had been on board over a week now, and she had learned her way around her duty station. She had even begun to recongnize the thought patterns of many of the medical staff she worked with. She wasn’t sure if that helped or made things worse for herself. She had never had that happen before except with her family and her doctors on Betazed. But then everyone on Betazed could recognize each other that way. At the Academy she hadn’t been partnered with any classmates long enough to find out. She had been taking the Mak’Bara class everyday. It was a large group, but so far no problems. The meditational state that the students entered made their thoughts very quiet and focused, it didn’t stop the thoughts both conscious and subconscious of the rest of the crew less, but it did reduce the noise in her surrounding area.
She wasn’t sure how much she was adjusting though. She was getting headaches most nights and probably needed to use the Alpha Wave Inducer again, to allow for a deeper sleep but she hadn’t spoken to Lt Mika about it. Cmdr Ballaris refused to treat her from this distance. He told her she had to trust her DH and doctors there. She knew he was right. Lt. Mika had told her she could come to her if she needed anything, so she added a note to Lt. Mika to ask for a meeting.

Sharah put on her lab coat and entered the main area of Sickbay. With all the new transfers they were very busy. Cadets going out to new positions, and new cadets coming in. They all needed medical exams. There was already a line forming. Some were trying to get in during their lunch hour and others were just trying to get it done. She took waved the first Cadet over. “I’m Doctor Fayth. Let’s get you cleared. Are you leaving us or coming aboard?”
“Cadet Vika. I’m on my way back to the Academy. I’ve finished my tour.”
“Congratulations Cadet. You’ll be Ensign Vika soon. Good luck.” Sharah could feel the cadet’s excitement and nerves for the future. She firmly pushed it to the back of her mind so she could concentrate on the tricorder readings. “You look healthy. Any concerns?”
Cadet Vika shook her head. “Well then, you are cleared to go.”
Sharah moved through several more patients.

Sharah had a few more days like that. Simple, medical exams. But her headaches and disorientation were getting worse at the end of her shifts. But her shifts were going well. The tips Ashlyn had given her were helping.
Almost as her last shift was ending a young NE walked in with a little girl. “Hey doc, my sister is here visiting, waiting for her transfer ship to arrive, and she fell down and got hurt.” Sharah bent forward and smiled at the little girl. “Hi, my name’s Dr. Fayth. I’m gonna take care of you.” She took the little girl from her sister and placed her on the biobed. Sharah took out her tricorder and began to scan the little girl. Her knee was scrapped up pretty bad, it was bleeding, but there was some impact fracturing on her Tibia. Children’s emotions were always hard for Sharah to experience. The girl was very angry at her brother. He had pushed her down to win a race, and also fear because her leg hurt really bad and she didn’t know what the doctor would do. “Are you excited to be here with your sister?” Sharah began talking as she took the dermal regenerator to fix the skinned up knee.
The girl nodded, “She’s visiting home with us after her graduation. I can’t wait. She’s been gone a long time. I’ve missed her.” Sharah smiled at the little girl and the NE. They were obviously very close. “That sounds so exciting, what is the first thing you are going to do?”
“Get back at Robby! He hurt me!” The girl began to cry. Sharah had to concentrate not to be drawn into the little girl’s anger. While her older sister comforted her she got the tissue migrator to help speed the bone tissue regeneration. Last she gave the girl a hypospray for the pain. “She should stay off her leg for now. Bring her back tomorrow to make sure it’s all healed up.”
She smiled at the little girl and squeezed her hand. “All better. No running till tomorrow okay?”
After the NE left with her little sister, Sharah quickly left. Her shift was over and she needed an outlet for all that anger. It wasn’t just the little girls, but her own. She often felt that aimless anger at not being able to do what you wanted. The little girl wanted to beat her brother and was also angry he hurt her and that she loved him so much she wouldn’t hurt him anyway. Sharah was often illogically angry at herself when she couldn’t control her ‘gift.’ What could she do? Meditation…no....Mak’bara…no too slow. She wanted to .... the phaser range. She’d shoot some glowing targets. She headed down to Deck 7 to the weapon’s range. The door was locked with a note that cadets needed permission. She understood that. Luckily her weapons proficiencies were horrible and on her time off she really needed the practice.
Sharah walked down and entered an office to ask if she could use the range. She told the NE Security officer what she wanted, and he just stared at her. “I’m really horrible and I wanted to get in some practice. Is that alright?”

The door behind the Doctor opened and a familiar voice broke the silence, “Since when do doctors go shooting in the phaser range?” Rainns had arrived to relieve the officer on duty for the day, and was surprised to see Sharah standing in the room when he entered.

Sharah for once, was surprised, she hadn’t felt him coming. The anger bubbling up like a gyser, she spun around and snapped, “Because basic weapons proficiency is required for graduation, and I don’t have it yet.” She stopped abruptly, ‘Oh....I’m in trouble now.’ “Sorry, Lt. I…umm.” Sharah swallowed and realized she probably needed to leave. “Never mind, Sir. I appologize. Today’s probably not a good idea.” She hadn’t heard him, the noise was too loud. The past almost two weeks she’d known that distinctive pattern anywhere.

Rainns held up a hand to the Doctor for a moment, he then dismissed the officer on duty and told him to have a pleasant rest of the evening. The young man then paced around to the other side of the desk and sat down, “First of all,” he began, “I’m still on duty, so this is not a social gathering, therefore I have not lost the bet.” He smirked, “but seriously, do you actually need to use the shooting range right now because you are scared you won’t graduate?”

Sharah turned in place watching him move across the room. She couldn’t hear him…at all…he…something was wrong with her. She focused on his words, processing them slowly, she didn’t even smile at his jab about the bet, she just nodded in acknowledgement. “No…I guess not right now. I....I do need the practice, I…” she wasn’t sure why at that moment she had choosen the phaser range. What had prompted it....she looked at him, clearly confused, “you aren’t there.” No…he had to be…He’d done it! What ever he was thinking was very focused, she’d found it, but why hadn’t she....Her vision went fuzzy. She tried to breathe but…she was begin to hyperventilate. She was going to burn out. ‘Help’

Josephs smirk grew for a second, “I’ve been studying some Cardassian techniques, but I didn’t think it would be that effective…” He trailed off, his prideful smirk disappeared as he heard her voice in his head cry out. He quickly sat up from his chair and went around the desk to sit Fayth down. “You’re the doctor here, tell me what to do, verbally or non-verbally, I don’t care just tell me.” He said, a very slight amount of fear crept into his voice as he observed his friend in clear disorientation.

‘Focus…I…I need a focus.’ She didn’t know what to do. The last time this happened she’d blacked out from the strain and woke up in the hospital several days later. ‘Too loud…it’s too loud.’ She slid from the chair and put her head between her knees trying to stop the hyperventilation.
