Realizing belatedly he’d been approached, the Caitian put down his coffee and smiled, taking Hayley’s hand to shake. “Cadet Satyol Kastyi. Please, call me Kast. Nice to meet you. I’m in the sciences department. Sorry if I spaced out there, I was trying to figure out if I like coffee again.”

Cadet Satyol, Scientist

“Ah, coffee, smells like heaven, tastes like old socks,” Hayley replied with a grin, “I prefer tea myself.”

Cadet Marshall, Doctor

Departing Mika’s side, Aili looked around for somewhere to socialise. It seemed the gathering had thinned somewhat during her chat with Mika so she elected to return to the table where Rainns and Greiss sat. She stopped slightly short of them and announced herself. “Hi there, again. Mind if I join you?”

Cadet McMorran - Science

Rainns looked up at McMoran and smiled, “Not at all, Greiss here was just mentioning to me how bad my social skills are with women, and I would to change the topic.”

Cadet Joseph Rainns- Security

“Oh dear, well I’m sure that’s not quite true.” Aili lowered herself into the spare seat. “Hello Greiss. I’m sorry I ran away from you earlier. It’s nothing personal. So yes, I’m Aili. Was it Winton, sorry?” She was sure she had his name slightly wrong but she couldn’t place quite how. Not being the best with names, she was well adjusted to the guilt of having to ask over and over.

Cadet McMorran - Science

“Winston. There’s an S.” He made a sibilant ‘Sss’ sound to demonstrate. He smiled gleefully.

“Winston!”, Aili exclaimed. “I’m sorry, I’ll never get it wrong again and that’s a promise.” She smiled and nodded respectfully to Greiss.

Rainns sat at the table for a second in thought, and then turned towards Aili, “I assume you got everything sorted out with the good doctor?”

Cadet Joseph Rainns- Security

Aili pulled something somewhere between a grin and a smirk as her eyes turned to meet Rainns’. “Yes, very much so. Seriously though, thank you for being a good friend to someone you just met. It means a lot”. With that her expression evolved into an appreciative smile that captured her whole face in its display of thankfulness.

Cadet McMorran - Science

Tandra had been sitting not far from the other cadets, finishing her new soda. Yawning, she said, “Right, well, I’m really tired, so I’m gonna head out. Take a nap or something. Gotta report for duty in the morning.” And with that, she stood, smiled at Aili, waved at everyone else, and headed out of the holodeck.

As the holodeck door closed behind Mika, Greiss made a warm grin. “You know, she’s gotta be one of the kindest medical officers I’ve met.” Winston’s eyes darted about nervously as he surveyed for onlookers and other cadets that would interfere with his secretive disclosure. “I listened in on a conversation some higher ranking medical officers were having. From what I can tell, they’re considering her for promotion!” He tried to mask his exclamation through his whisper. “Seems like all of her good work is paying off in a big way.”

“She is.” Aili displayed child-like bemusement as her gaze lingered on the position of the doors for several second after they faded away, before snapping out of it and clocking the remainder of Winston’s words. “She is?!?! Does that mean she’ll be transferring soon?” She felt the warmth her hope for a future with Mika had generated slipping away by the moment.
