Mika shifted in her seat, visibly uncomfortable. “I was really uncomfortable, honestly.” Cadet Trenton’s… talk was something that even thinking about made Mika intensely uncomfortable. She didn’t quite feel violated but certainly it was more than a little uncomfortable. “Trust me, Miss Magic Gown should do anything but make you insecure. I’d have actually appreciated a rescue back there,” She said and chuckled somewhat nervously. “Look, I…” She had been about to admit it… but she lost her nerve. Instead, she said, “I really like having you around, and hanging out with you. I don’t think you’re socially inept at all. I think-” You’re cute, she had been about to say, but she cut herself off, turning a deeper red than before.

Despite it feeling slightly wrong, Mika’s visible unease mitigated Aili’s concerns about herself and her own image. She surely wouldn’t be this embarrassed if the didn’t have the same feelings as me. At least… similar feelings. Cutting off a sentence and turning red was a dead giveaway to Aili; she recognised herself in that all too well. She inhaled deeply through her nose before opening her mouth, her jaw taking the all the might she had to open. “I think you are too”. With that she blushed deeply as she extended her sprawled hand along the bar to rest nearer to Mika.

Mika smiled, feeling much better. “You.. you do? Aili…” and then, she started laughing. “We’ve really been beating around the bush, haven’t we?” She said, once she pulled herself back together. The way her face felt, she figured she must be grinning ear to ear, though her redness had not faded. “I’ve wanted to.... to ask you out.. since we met, really.” She forced herself to say, the words coming out about as easily as molasses flows. Once she’d managed to get them out, she looked to Aili once more, searching the other girl’s face for a reaction.

Vocalising slowly, with each word obviously carefully chosen, Aili put the next foot forward. “Well. Would you, Tandra, like to come to my quarters, for tea? Dinner! Tomorrow night?” Despite the answer seeming self evident, she still managed to look anxious in awaiting a response.

Tandra nodded eagerly, “I would indeed like to have dinner with you, Aili, in your quarters. Tomorrow night then! How about at 1900 hours?” She suggested, and again, she had the widest smile anyone had probably ever seen her have.

Aili’s throat was dry as anything as she suppressed what would have been an entirely audible, and visible, sigh of relief. Swallowing lightly, she continued. “Sounds good.” She smiled, although it was a far more measured smile than Tandra’s veritible smirk. “We could visit the arboretum for a wee explore afterwards maybe? If we feel like it. I’ve not been yet, have you?”

“I haven’t. That sounds like fun!” Tandra said, enthusiastically. “But if we don’t end up feeling like going, it’s not like the arboretum is going anywhere, right?” She said, smiling again. It was like they were the only two in the world to Mika, she didn’t really notice anything going on but the conversation between her and Aili. She’d nearly forgotten where they were. And she was still sticky from the soda. But she’d all but forgotten that.

Aili’s heartrate was slowly returning to normal as her tension dissipated. “No, I don’t suppose it is.” She drummed her fingers briefly before retracting her hand, not wanting to seem too intrusive. “Well… shall we call it a date and I’ll see you then? You’re not allergic to anything I won’t find on file are you? Or just anything you plain don’t fancy eating?” The immense relief Aili felt being able to talk so freely with Tandra was euphoric. Frankly, she had never really had a moment like this in a relationship of any kind, certainly not such a feeling of freedom with someone her own age.

Mika nodded. “We shall! I’ll be seeing you. And… peanuts. I’m allergic to peanuts. Don’t go trying to kill me,” she said, and grinned her usual goofy smile. “Other than that, go wild.” She was incredibly happy that it had turned out the way it had. She’d been on very few actual dates, and none of them had gone anywhere. If tomorrow night went well, Aili would be Mika’s first serious girlfriend. And she really, really hoped that would happen. At that point in time, nothing would make her happier.

“Noted. Well, I think we should both use this time to say hello to some of the others.” Aili patted Tandra gently on the shoulder as she brought herself to her feet. She paused before she made off, waiting in case there was anything left to be said, with the slightly bemused expression of someone who didn’t know exactly what to make of what was before them.

Mika nodded, not really wanting Aili to walk away, but recognizing she was right. And with that, she turned, looking for someone else to talk to. But this time, she felt much better, like a lot of stress had been relieved.

Realizing belatedly he’d been approached, the Caitian put down his coffee and smiled, taking Hayley’s hand to shake. “Cadet Satyol Kastyi. Please, call me Kast. Nice to meet you. I’m in the sciences department. Sorry if I spaced out there, I was trying to figure out if I like coffee again.”
