Mika was entirely too distracted to notice that Sharah had come. Surely she’d notice soon, but at the moment, between desperately trying to blot the spilled soda out of her clothes and off the bar, and the fact that Aili had just sat down next to her, she was focused on little else. As soon as Aili had sat down, Mika turned to her, still holding a wad of wet napkins. “Oh! Aili, hey!” She said, chuckling and gesturing to her still very wet lap. “Not exactly my most flattering moment…” she said, her face flushing slightly. Snatching another wad of fresh napkins, she continued blotting up the mess.

Joseph sat at the table, taking in Fayth’s response. By her physical response, Rainns could tell that his question had upset her and she seemed to be afraid to answer it. He was glad that Greiss had begun talking, as Joseph did not want to press the issue further, and was more than happy to let the other cadet ask the questions he himself was not comfortable asking at the moment. He could tell already though that Fayth kept her cards close to her chest, and that intrigued and appealed to the young cadet. Rainns had often regarded that those who kept their true feelings in a box made finding the key worth it. Without saying a word, he simply thought as “loud” as one could, ‘There is nothing wrong with being different, don’t be afraid.’ He was sure the Betazoid would be able to pick it up. Outwardly, he simply took a sip of his drink and let Greiss do the talking.

Sharah was slightly uncomfortable, but she guessed in a positive way. She missed socializing with friends, and she certainly was uneasy being around as many people that were in the holodeck. She most deffinantly wasn’t totally alright, but she would be. “Probably fatigue. I had a long flight to get out here. I had lab tests to finish and missed the first two transports out here. I love xenobiology. I bet we could compare notes. There isn’t much to tell. Like most doctors I like helping people. I know all about old remedies and medical history.” She stopped herself before she got into the why’s and wherefore’s of her interest.

Sharah’s eyes widened slightly and she sat up a little straighter. ‘Different is one thing, being sick is another.’ What Joseph wasn’t expecting was to hear Sharah’s voice for himself, telepathically. It was something because of her ‘condition’ she could do. Hearing his voice had created the reaction rather than her meaning to do it. She was going to have to go back to her quarters. She was more fatigued than she thought. Both the cadets were so friendly though and she didn’t want to leave, but…
the voices, so many of them, and so many emotions. She was too tired, too hyped from the excitement of being on a ship. She closed her eyes trying to take a deep breath and silence the voices before she heard or said something she shouldn’t.

OOC: Fixing the double split :D
- Nicole (River)
OOC: Thanks Nicole. I’m adding to my previous post above to keep the post smooth

Winston’s expression turned from compassionate to baffled as he observed the two staring at each other as they silently exchanged emotions through the arrangement that made up their countenance. “Uh… ahem. So, why did you, y’know, join Starfleet? Is it the awe of the stars? The desire to help others across the galaxy?” Greiss tried his hardest to figure out what was off about this cadet. She beheld an air of unease, an air enveloping an object of importance. What he’d give to be like her, no more having to act like the most confident person in the room just to learn more about others. He wouldn’t even need to talk to them and risk making an anxious wreck of himself. But would he even want to know though? Was certainty of emotion better than forced amicability with someone you know to be insincere? He’d have to save that question for later. Now was not the time for debating to himself about his inner character. Now was the time to find out about Sharah and fix whatever problem she was harboring.

OCC: I’m trying to blend the two threads back together. Hopefully I didn’t step on any toes.

IC: Sharah half stood as Joseph began to choke. “Are you alright?” the doctor in her stepping into place. When he put the drink down so firmly she realized what she had done. Living among telepaths until she went into the Academy she sometimes resorted to telepathy without thinking about it. She’d been speaking telepathically since birth. It was unforgivable what she had done. The first rule she had been taught was to never take another’s thoughts or put your own in their mind without permission. The color drained from her face.

‘I’m sorry if my thoughts are a burden to you,’ he mentally articulated, ‘but you are an incredibly fascinating person.’
Sharah glanced at Joseph out of the corner of her eye and shook her head, ‘I am so sorry.’ the strength of her guilt riding along with her thoughts.
Sharah smiled at Griess, “Same as everyone else, I guess. Adventure, to see the galaxy, what not. I really want to learn about the ancient medical techniques of the people we encounter. It fascinates me how cultures survived so long on what appears to be primitive medicine, but it really isn’t. What about you? What are you passionate about? Are you as nervous as I am about being on a ship with new people?” Maybe that would be explanation enough? Or maybe they didn’t buy it. They both seemed more observant than most. Joseph was in security and it was his job to notice things, and Griess wouldn’t be much of an engineer if he didn’t have an eye for detail.
‘If I’m being too overbearing for you I can leave alone’ He thought once more. ‘But I would to get to know you beyond the superficial some time.’
Sharah smiled a bit sadly as she glanced back at him. ‘You have been polite and far more understanding than I deserve,’ she thought towards him.
“I’m going to get another drink,” She stood up to flag down a passing waiter and got instantly dizzy and nauseated. No choice now, she needed to leave, “It was so nice to meet you Joseph, Griess, I hope we can talk more. I must leave though. I’m afraid my story is a bit sad, I guess. I’m not well and I think I had better go to sickbay. She walked out without being able to tell if she had overstepped any boundaries while she was there. She had to be more careful about using telepathy with anyone. Joseph had responded, on his own, so maybe he didn’t mind, but forced telepathy could be dangerous for a non telepath. There were instances of humans with the ability that it was safe to engage in prolonged paracortex activity, but she would not risk the mental health of another person. And Griess seemed very intuitive and perhaps was empathic? Or maybe just observant? She wasn’t sure.
She called for the door and stepped out. Her legs shaking a bit she sat down in the corridor. The overwhelm of emotions and thoughts from her lack of control making her dizzy and nauseated. Sharah couldn’t help herself, ‘Well Joseph, you’re a security officer and love a mystery, if you want to know more, I think you can figure it out.’

OOC: L Jay! Haven’t seen you in the discord today so will just mention this here for your benefit! Best to quickly refresh the post list before hitting post in this thread to see if anyone else has responded. We’re posting so rapidly that clashes have been happening all the time when we don’t make sure no one has posted while we’ve been writing. Careful not to refresh the page you’ve been writing in though, don’t want to lose your post! Great posting though, and everyone else too! :)

IC: Frankly, Aili was surprised when Mika turned to speak to her without much hesitation at all. She was becoming less and less confident in her perception of how her peers would behave by the minute. “Tandra”, Aili greeted her newfound friend simply with an accompanying nod. “Unflattering?”. She chuckled. “You’ve seen me running. Twice! And falling flat on my face. I think the boat of flatteringness has long sailed. Is that even a word?” Aili’s visage momentarily closed itself into a tight frown before a laugh bubbled to the surface. Feeling akward simply watching Mika pat herself dry, Aili reached out and rested her hand on a stack of unused napkins. “Can I help you out there?”, she asked as her laugh subsided. Her remaining grin fell away rather more quickly when she realised she had just asked if she’d like Mika to pat her down and in an instant, she bore the archetypal expression of a deer in the the fore lights of a low flying shuttlecraft.
