Hayley dashed up to the doors of the Holodeck then paused. She didn’t want to arrive looking flustered but she felt kind of bad for being so late. ~I really should not have let myself lay down~ She scolded herself. She hadn’t meant to fall asleep, it had just been a somewhat long and overwhelming day. The doors opened and she walked in, feeling a little awkward. She really hadn’t met any of her fellow cadets yet other than in passing. She paused to take in the surroundings and smiled. Jacob would have loved this place. She glanced around, wondering where she would be welcome.

Hayley Marshall Cadet/Doctor

Kast watched the ebb and flow of conversations as they all got away from him. He was surprisingly comfortable with all this. He was used to crowds and bustling. So he just sat and listened, trying to get a feel for what everyone’s personalities were, letting his fellow cadets express themselves while he enjoyed the root beer, tail swishing along the floor behind him as he sat.

Ashlyn had started sweating, the extent of her social battery running dry with all the attention she had clearly gotten from this public show of affection. She determined it was time to strike a final blow and return to her quarters until her later appointment. “You know,” the cadet whispered to the blushing doctor, “that blush makes you quite beautiful, makes the sapphires stand out more vibrantly. I do love the color blue.” The index and middle finger stroked down to Tandra’s palm alternatingly in a petting motion. “It’s a shame I have to leave you here.” Ashlyn practically purrs into Tandra’s ear. With that Trenton abruptly stood up and stepped off by two paces before stopping and looking over her shoulder at Tandra. “I’ll see you tonight Tan~dra, and I’ll wear something…” Ashlyn sucks in a breath through her teeth, “Appropriate.” Then proceeds to leave the holodeck.

  • Cadet Ashlyn Trenton

‘This is not where I expected this evening to go’ Rainns thought to himself as he walked outside following McMoran. He was half expecting the agitated cadet to lash out him in anger. He was quietly relieved when that did not happen. As he stepped out of the bar he took in the new landscape, and was caught off guard by the setting, as he had imagined the bar to be in a more modern setting. Turning his view to McMoran he saw she was extremely disturbed emotionally at the moment. He took one last look in the bar, questioning his own judgement and then closed the door. He listened intently when she began to speak, and processed every word carefully and diligently. When he saw her collapse on the steps he took a second to consider his next words carefully. As he watched her he began having flashbacks to his early days in the Academy, where he had felt the same way about the people around him and his own insecurities. “Aili,” he said in a low voice as he took a seat next to the troubled cadet, “I know exactly how you feel right now, when I was younger, I also struggled with making friends, heck, I still do.” He looked at one of nearby puddles, which cast a distorted reflection of his face. “But I realized one day, that I didn’t need to please people to find friends, those people who got bored with me where never going to my friends anyway. The same is true for you, don’t let the past effect the present, just because people who didn’t have anything in common with you didn’t appreciate you doesn’t mean the people in this holodeck won’t.” Rainns took a short breath. “You make friends by spending quality time with them and talking about real subjects that you can bond over, and if you have been doing that with Mika and the other people here you will be fine.” “And as for your situation with her, if she is bored with you already then she wouldn’t make a good friend to start. But just because she didn’t make a b-line for you when she entered doesn’t mean she’s done with you. I bet she’s waiting for you to engage her just as you have been waiting for her to do so.” Rainns chuckled to himself, “You did after all throw this party.” He stood back up, “I’m going to give you some alone time now, just take a few moments to compose yourself and come back in there, and if you want to see where you are with Mika, engage her, make a move.” He began to head to the door. Reaching it he stopped and turned around. “Besides, I wouldn’t worry about Trenton, if you ask me, she’s got a few screws lose in the attic, and I bet Mika agrees.” With that he opened the door and re-entered the bar.

Stepping in he looked around for a moment, debating in his head if wanted to stay any longer or simply go back to his quarters. A sudden feeling of loneliness came over him as he realized that he was not only telling McMoran those statements, but he had also been addressing himself.

Cadet Joseph Rainns- Security

Motionless, Aili processed Rainns’ heartfelt words. She hadn’t anticipated the cadet she had only just met being as supportive as he was but she greatly appreciated his presence. As Rainns turned to leave, Aili lifted her head with the intent of thanking him. He disappeared through the door before she had the chance. Jealousy was something Aili had little respect for, her disappointment with herself whenever she fell into its grip was immense. As she continued to take deep breaths, she had to acknowledge she had done so again. Looking up at the sky, Aili continued to collect her thoughts.

Meanwhile, inside the bar, Mika stared as Trenton left the Holodeck, completely shocked. The look on her face was on-par with someone telling her she’d just made Captain. Or something equally impossible. “That was… um.” She muttered, her face still bright, bright red. She wasn’t usually so easy to work up, but Ashlyn was… very good at it. After another few moments, she glanced around the bar, noticing a few other Cadets had left. Most notably, Aili. Where’d she go? Did she leave already? She thought, looking around more slowly, seeing if she just hadn’t seen the other Cadet.

~ Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

Greiss laughed a little. “I see it’s that kind of scenario then.” He said, sliding over to nudge Mika with his elbow. “Since it seems like someone’s hit you with a certain cherub’s arrow, if you catch my drift” He waggled his eyebrows and motioned to the exit where Trenton had been moments before. “I’m thinking of putting on some music to maybe, alleviate the tension in the air. Any requests?” Rotating back to the Catian once more, “What about you Satyol?”

~Cadet Winston Greiss, Engineer

“Hm. I’m a fan of Glitch Punk if they have any. The rock music with the computer glitch sounds? And feel free to call me Kast, Satyol’s my family name.” A bajoran family name, at that.

As for the music choice, was definitely a change from all the classical and “cultural” music he’d been listening to at the Academy for four years, that was sure.

Cadet Satyol Kastyi

“Something a little… quieter would be nice. Not like, classical, but like, I dunno pop-y or R&B or something,” Mika suggested, though once she heard Kastyi’s suggestion, she said, “Well, that might be okay, too.” She was still quite shaken up from her… conversation with Trenton.

Winston hopped from his seat and meandered over to the jukebox. “Let’s see what we’ve got here…” He said as he inspected the available songs.

~Cadet Winston Greiss, Engineer

The jukebox offered only an abbreviated selection of tracks: a Sinatra song titled You’ll Never Know, Open Your Eyes, They, All Around You and a blues track named Wake Up Everybody.

Meanwhile, on the steps outside, Aili was preparing to re-enter the bar. She was still embarassed by how slow she had moved with Mika, having seen what she just had, and dreading having her fear confirmed; that being the bond she had been forming with the other cadet having been swept aside by Trenton’s more efficient advances. Bringing herself to her feet, she quickly desended the steps and crouched before a puddle. With no regard for the supposed dirtiness of the holographic water, she splashed a little on her face. She then turned, jogged back up the stairs while patting her face dry on her sleeve, and pushed through the door.

Greiss groaned as he saw the available songs. “Typical…” He muttered. It was something that always bugged him about Starfleet computers and facilities. They never had music past the 1950’s already loaded in. A fascination shared between all Starfleet system programmers? Who knows? The stuck up admirals probably ate this stuff up. No space for fun or high energy music when you’re grumpily giving orders, he mused. But… Sinatra was Sinatra, and rock certainly wouldn’t alleviate any stress with Mika, so he’d have to settle. He pressed in on the button adjacent to the plaque labeled ‘You’ll Never Know’, and intently watched as the holographic imitation of machinery whirred about, and moved a record into place.

~Cadet Winston Greiss, Engineer

Hayley wandered over to the bar and climbed onto an available stool. “I’d like a ginger ale please,” She requested when the bartender looked her way. She glanced over toward the jukebox as the music started. She knew she’d seen the cadet standing there around the ship but couldn’t yet put a name to the face. So far she really hadn’t had many opportunities to meet anyone other then her CO.

Cadet Marshall, Doctor

“Sinatra, huh?” Mika asked as Greiss put the record on. “I can respect that.” She was definitely winding down, and she finally ordered herself a soda to drink. And then she noticed Aili at the door, and she turned so quickly, she immediately knocked the soda over, spilling the contents of the glass all over her own lap and all over Hayley’s. The glass rolled off the counter, smashing on the floor. The bar table had gotten a good dousing, too. “Crap! Sorry! I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to knock that over…” she said to Hayley, snatching napkins out of a napkin holder on the counter. She began trying to blot up the table, ignoring the wetness of her own clothes in a hurried attempt to make sure no more of the sticky liquid dripped onto Hayley’s clothes. She glanced briefly at Aili, but then she looked away, her face flushing a bright red. She’d made an absolute fool of herself, and she felt like she’d never live this down.

~ Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

Hayley startled and let out an undignified squeak as the cold soda hit her lap, then grabbed a few napkins herself and started to help clean up, “Oh, don’t worry about it at all, at home I was always getting splashed with paint or linseed oil, this will at least be easy to clean up.” She looked up and noticed the expression on Mika’s face, “Is everything alright?”

Cadet Marshall, Doctor

Not exactly music he could dance to, Kast decided. Ah well, it wasn’t his party. He killed his root beer, then drummed his hands lightly on the bartop, debating what to do next. He was forever being told to socialize, so maybe there was someone here to have a chat with.

Cadet Satyol, Scientist

Mika hesitated a long moment, silently blotting up more of the mess she’d caused, and then she glanced over at Aili again. “It’s- nothing. It’s stupid.” She told Hayley. She was confused. She felt like she’d upset Aili somehow, which was absolutely not what she wanted to do. She really hoped she’d get a chance to talk to Aili, to iron everything out. She forced back on her usual, cheerful expression. “I’ll be okay! You’re.. Marshall, aren’t you? The new Medical Cadet?”

~ Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

Just then, the bartender came hurtling towards Mika and Satyol with a towel pressed across the bartop. He didn’t slow as he passed the two cadets, the towel more sweeping away the wetness than drying it. The man then walked back along the bar in the opposite direction, allowing the towel to properly absorb the spilled drink, his gaze never leaving Mika’s eyes while he did so.

Sharah had seen the notice that there was as social gathering in the holodeck for new cadets. She was the newest one to come aboard, and really she just wanted to go to bed, but she wanted to meet the people she would be working with. Despite her ‘medical condition’ Sharah loved to be around people, or she had at home on Betazed. It was different at the Academy. She always had to be careful and controlled. If she slipped it made people too nervous, and if she didn’t she was ‘too stiff’ to be fun. She seriously thought about just going back to her quarters and reading a book. She LOVED books. She often ended up with her eyes burning for all the reading she did. And REAL books too. Not on a PaDD. There was nothing like the smell of a new book, or better yet, an old book.

With a deep breath she walked through the door. It wasn’t as crowded as she feared, but she would have to be extra careful. She saw a table almost in shadow and started to head that way, but she was supposed to be meeting her crew mates. Instead she opted for a table with a view of the room and well lit so it didn’t seem she was hiding. It also had enough distance to allow her some mental breathing room. She ordered a drink from the bar tender and then sat down.

Cadet Fayth, Doctor

OOC: Fixed

Cadet McMorran re-entered the space just in time to see Mika slap a glass into oblivion with the back of her hand, or so she thought; she had no suspicious that she was in fact the cause of Mika’s spasm. Aili scanned the section of the room she could see from the door, intent on thanking Rainns. Wherever he had gotten to after reentering, she couldn’t see him from where she stood, so Aili began slowly making her way back to the front of the bar. Some new figures had appeared since she had left. Although she didn’t recognise them, rom their behaviour she was fairly sure both women were members of the crew, not holograms. The first who’s path she crossed after rounding the bar was Fayth. She took a deep breath before introducing herself. “Hello! I’m Aili”. With that, she found herself bending slightly forwards and her hand extending politely towards the woman.
