OOC: This is a continuation of something that started in Aili’s physical pre-sim. I’ll likely start up the ‘next day’ sim once we’ve finished this one, where all would be welcome to join! :)

Tandra followed Aili up the hill. “Now, if you want to finish that race, I bet I can beat you up there!” she said. The hill was getting rather steep now, and harder to climb, but Tandra was confident she could beat Aili up it - and impress her, of course.

“Oh, sure you can!”, Aili quipped back, in a faux-dismissive tone. Despite having not having planned or cared about this informal competition previously, Aili found herself determined not to be outdone at her own game. Recommitting to her pace, Aili made haste up the slope towards the point at which the exposed rock emerged from the earth, jutting several feet into the air forming a small platform-like structure. Her hurriedness proved to be her undoing however, as Aili lost her foothold and slid slightly backwards. Despite managing to regain her stablility, Mika would easily be able to reach the rock before she did at her current pace.

Mika was ahead of Aili, making powerful strides up the hill. She was surprisingly fit. A good runner. Soon she was ahead of Aili, and even further ahead once Aili lost her footing. She reached the tall stone at the top and stopped, touching it. “Looks like I win!” She said, turning around to look at Aili, to see how far behind she was. Mika was winded, but certainly not out of breath, though she found herself rather glad their little race was over. Track in high school was enough for Tandra to realize she didn’t really like running all that much.

Scambling up the slope, Aili arrived at Tandra’s position several seconds later. The other girl’s athleticism had surprised and impressed her but she wasn’t done yet. “Oh yeah?”, Aili said with her tongue literally in her cheek. Reaching up to the top of the rock, Aili began pulling herself up onto the narrow summit. “We’re not scared of heights are me”, she teased as she found a cranny to act as a foothold.

“Of course not!” Mika replied, pulling herself up onto the tall rock as well. She reached near the top, clinging to the rock, her foot resting in a small indent in the rock. “Look how far we can see now!” She said, looking over from the mountain. “The view up here is fantastic!” They could see where they started at, and from here, had an even better view of the lake.

Aili reached the top at about the same time as Tandra. Clambering up, she brushed shoulders with the other girl as she found her balance on the narrow surface. “Yes! That’s the idea.” Lightly panting, Aili extended her hand for a competitors’ handshake. “You’re quite the sprinter!”, she complimented, and she meant it. Tandra was far more athletic than Aili would have predicted. “I like to think that I’m reasonably fit, I mean I came straight from my regular run around the decks, but look at you go! You must have some seriously strong legs on you!”. She may have sounded like she was dishing out compliments unduly, but she truly was just speaking her mind as she collected herself. Once she had recovered her wits she realised the extent of her blabbing, promptly shutting herself up and smiling tentatively at Tandra.

Tandra shook her hand, blushing slightly. All the praise made her feel shy. “I did track in high school. And I… well, I have my hobbies,” She said, smiling mischievously. “If you wouldn’t mind, maybe I could join you when you run sometimes? I haven’t been practicing much of anything since I came aboard the ship.” She asked, hoping Aili said ‘Yes’. It would be another time for them to hang out, too, so to Tandra, it was very much all around ‘win’s.
