It was starting to set in that Mel was officially Cadet Booker, engineering officer aboard the USS Challenger. She’d spent hours going over the specs of the Discovery-class ship, and was more than ready to get into all of it. The boarding physical was just another step towards solidifying that.

She stepped into Sickbay, scanning the room and its contents for any medical personnel present, before she cleared her throat, “Excuse me, Cadet Mel Booker, reporting in for my boarding physical.”

  • Cdt. Mel Booker (Engineering)

OOC: Welcome aboard, Anna! This is a great post! I’ll see if one of my cadets has the time to take over your evaluation so I’m holding off replying to it myself for now. I hope that is okay for you. ~Silke

OOC: I’ll be the cadet doing your eval! As said, welcome aboard :)

IC:
It was Cadet Mika who happened to be there when Mel entered, announcing that she was here for her check-in eval. “Oh, I can get that done for you.” She said, gesturing for Mel to come into the sickbay. “You said your name’s Booker? I’m Mika.” She introduced. “You can have a seat.”
-Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

OOC: Thanks! Excited to get to it.

IC:
“Nice to meet you.” She nodded, following the doctor’s instructions and moving to sit down. Noting the other officer’s rank, Mel asked, “You mind if I ask how long you’ve been here? Not that I doubt your ability, or anything, just trying to gauge where all us cadets are at.”

“A few months. Long enough to get the hang of things, no doubt,” Mika said, adding on, “There’s quite a few of us Cadets, ranging from having been here a few months or longer to being as new as you.” She wondered if Mel was as nervous as Mika had been when she started. Mel certainly didn’t seem at all nervous, which Mika kind of admired, honestly.

She picked up a PaDD and a tricorder and stood a length away from Mel. “Alright, let’s get down to it. Anything that might not be in your file that I should know about? Like, an injury, or an illness, or an out-of-Federation trip.” She asked.
-Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

“Not that I can think of,” Mel responded, “Should all be in my file.” Not that there would be much there. The young engineer had been rather lucky in terms of health and, aside from a small fracture on her arm due to an unlucky fall when she’d been seven, she had pretty much been so her entire life.

OOC: So in this, my character is scanning your character. Since it’s your character you get to decide what it says :)

IC:
“Alright, that makes it easy,” Mika said. “Isn’t it exciting, being here? I know I was,” she said, trying to make polite conversation. She took the tricorder, using the smaller piece to slowly scan over Mel.
-Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

OOC: Thanks for the heads up!

IC:
“It really is,” Mel admitted, “I’ve been studying the ship since I learned my assignment and if I’m being honest, I’m itching to get to work in Engineering.”

When Mika scanned the other cadet, it revealed nothing out of the ordinary. She was a perfectly healthy twenty three year old. A few long since faded scars would likely be the only sign of any physical trauma, though those all fell in line with the kind easily acquired from working with machinery often.

Mika finished her scan of the Cadet, stepping back. “Well, you’re all good on my end, so unless you’ve got anything else you want to ask, you’re good to get to it!” She said, with a wide smile. “I was just as anxious to get to work, when I started.” She commented. It already seemed like years ago that she’d been sitting in Booker’s place. When she thought about it, she couldn’t believe it had actually been less than a year. A few months, more like.
-Cadet Tandra Mika, Doctor

OOC: So does that mean this is done / is there any way we’re supposed to format / wrap up threads?

IC:
“I bet,” Mel responded, slipping off the biobed. “It helps to do something you enjoy.”

Her abruptness wasn’t intentional; “Yes and”-ing had never been Booker’s strong suit in terms of conversation and, in most situations, efficiency was a key descriptor of her speech patterns. Her thoughts just were more preoccupied with the rest of her boarding checklist and the things she should probably brush up on before getting back to work.

“I better get to it then. Thanks, Doc,” She added, before heading out of the sickbay.

-Cdt. Mel Booker, Engineer

OOC: Yes, this thread is pretty well wrapped up now. We just leave them be, since they disappear off the default view in a week anyway, and that’s it! :)
