This was finally it. All the preparing, all the hard work, all the pressure, it finally ends at this moment. Cadet Collins walked the last couple of steps and then, glancing around the corridor, paused one more moment. Funny how, when it finally comes down to it, the nervousness is gone. If only his father could see him, maybe he’d finally make the old man proud. Of course, he knew his mother would be ecstatic. She always was more interested in what Devon was doing, and how he felt, rather than the accolades and position his father always pushed him to get. Not that that was a bad thing, it did help Devon reach beyond his comfort zone, but he always seemed to be in the shadow of his 3 older siblings. Now though, he had finally found his niche. True, it wasn’t in academia like his parents, but that never held much interest for him. Here, aboard the Challenger, he could finally make a difference in the universe, he could prove himself so much more than just the son of the “Two Professors”. All it would take now, is to ring up his new Chief, and see if she could help him grow into the excellent Starfleet officer he felt he could be. Reaching out his hand swiftly, he buzzes into her office. “Cadet Devon Collins, reporting as ordered.”
Collins glanced up and down the corridor quickly as he waited to meet his supervisor. He didn’t think the nerves would be hitting him as much as this, but as with everything else up to this point, he just had to push through it, and keep working. Focus centered back on the door, he waited, moving back onto the balls of his feet.
Cadet Devon Collins, SecurityWhen the bell chimed, Nijix paused and set her mostly finished lunch aside. Her hand snatched up the data pad and glanced at it briefly.
“Come in,” she stated.
Her voice calm and sincere in tone. A strong, but not overwhelming scent filled the room. It had an earthy, spicy smell. When the Cadet entered, she set her pad aside and addressed him.
“Please sit down.” She pointed to the seat across from her.

“Thank you, Sir.” Collins smiled and said formally, “It is an honor Sir. Cadet Devon Collins reporting for duty as ordered.” Relaxing just a bit, he settled smoothly into the chair offered. He smoothed out a small crease near the bottom of his uniform top, and glanced around the office. The interesting smell perked up his sense a bit, and he took a small inhale to further enjoy the scent.Cadet Devon Collins, Security
Nijix’s attention fastened to his figure as he entered and took a seat. Her expression calm and patient during the process. Despite the outward appearance, her internal nerves started to act up. They always did during interviews and meeting new Cadets. It amused some that such trivial things hadn’t faded.
She noticed his reactions causing her to smile.
“I’m glad you like the scent. Now, down to business. What is your motivation over joining the security department and star-fleet?”
-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS
“That’s an interesting question, Sir. Part of my motivation, I’m sure you’ve heard a million times, is to make a difference in this universe, to protect those who can’t help themselves, to explore the reaches of space, to bring peace. All of that is true, and probably even the bulk of it. But a deeper part of me, well, I want to prove to myself that I matter in my own way, that I am somebody important, and not just my parents son. Needless to say, I need to prove to myself that I truly can be that person that Star-Fleet needs.
As for security, sir, this is the ideal place to make that name for myself. U dont know what the future holds, but I know with my own strengths and weaknesses, this is the best section to grow and improve. I have ambition as well Sir, but that will never get in the way of doing what is right.”
Devon wasn’t sure if his Frank admission would bias the Chief against him, or even make it work so they can become a team, but he wasn’t one to hide from duty. All that he knew, all that he was, all that he could be, has driven him to this point, and he prayed that she would help him reach his potential as an officer.

“You’ll be happy to know, I value honesty and truth in my officers. A personal motivator is a hundred times more likely to push a person into reaching a goal than a half-hearted one. Even if it sounds noble.” Nijix stated, smiling a bit then making a note in her data pad.
“What do you feel you can contribute to the department and on a team?”
