Cadet Schweitzer walked confidently toward Sickbay and the office of the Chief Medical Officer contained therein. He was much more confident with this check-in than any of his other stops on his first day on the Challenger. He was confident in his training and knew that he could make a contribution to this Sickbay. What he was less sure about was Lieutenant Tija herself. Although he had studied Bajoran physiology (and especially their pathology) extensively, he had never worked with a member of her species. However, her reputation for professionalism, excellence, and attention to duty preceded her, so Schweitzer hoped that there would not be a great deal of small talk required. He pushed the doorbell, waited for the doors to open, and strode toward the Lieutenant’s desk. “Good evening, Lieutenant. Cadet Schweitzer reporting as ordered.”
Cadet Albert Schweitzer
OOC: Welcome aboard, John! This is a great post (as are all your other posts)! :)
IC:
At the sound of the chime, Lieutenant Tija looked up from the PaDD she was studying and said, “Enter.” As the doors swished open in front of Cadet Schweitzer, he would find himself in a smallish office that appeared to be very standard. Most of the wall opposite the door was taken up by windows. Against the left hand wall stood a comfortable looking couch with an oval-shaped glass coffee table in front of it and two matching overstuffed armchairs on each side. Slightly to the right of the door stood a desk at angle, facing mostly towards the door. Behind the desk was small bookshelf filled with books and a few ornaments. In front of the desk stood two identical chairs, facing the desk. Tija was sitting behind the desk, one PaDD right in front of her and several more stacked neatly to her right. Her copper hair was tied back into a neat bun at the nape of her neck, leaving not only her earring, but also the scar that ran down the right side of her face from her temple to her ear, clearly visible. Her face was covered in a number of pale brown, almost golden looking freckles and a small smile played across her lips and around her jade coloured eyes.Rising to her feet, Tija Aizala gestured towards the chairs and said, “Welcome aboard, Cadet. You must be Albert Schweitzer. Please have a seat.” Walking the three steps towards the replicator she continued, “Would you like something to eat or to drink?”
~Lt. Tija, CMO
OOC: Thank you, Silke. It is a privilege to join you.
IC: Cadet Schweitzer looked around and observed the austere surroundings before taking a seat in the desk chair on the left. The office was occupied by someone who did not allow distraction to compromise her work. Schweitzer both admired and resembled that. He felt curiosity about two things. First, he wondered why she had both a couch and four chairs in the office. Did the Lieutenant hold conferences there? Did she have friends or family over often? Schweitzer mostly dismissed the latter possibility as being out of character. Second, he wondered about the scar on her face at which he tried desperately not to stare. He immediately recalled his history courses and wondered if the Lieutenant was injured during the Resistance. He could not help but slightly shake his head as he tried to clear his mind of the speculation.
Schweitzer immediately realized that she was looking at him intently. He was suddenly afraid she might have taken his head shake as a response to her question. He adjusted his horn-rimmed glasses and quickly nodded. “Yes, please. A cup of black coffee would be very nice. It was a rough flight over.” He took a deep breath and tried to stay calm as she graciously handed him a mug from the replicator. He was grateful for the coffee because it gave him something to focus on other than his social awkwardness.
Schweitzer stayed quiet and waited for her to speak next.
