It was only when she had already pressed the chime that it occurred to Tija that she probably should have called the Captain first to see if she was actually in her ready room and more importantly had time to meet her just now. Oh well, it’s too late now, Tija thought annoyed with herself and mental kicking herself for her thoughtlessness and impulsiveness. All she could do now was wait and see and hope that the Captain wouldn’t be annoyed or the like by the unexpected visit.

“Enter!” called a firm voice from within and the door slid open to reveal Emmy behind her desk, intent on something on the screen in front of her. As Tija entered her ready room, her eyes flicked over to her and waited expectantly to find out what the CMO wanted.

Once the door opened in front of her, Tija walked just far enough into the room that she’d be out of reach of the sensor and the door would close again. With her hands behind her straight back, she looked at the Captain and said, “I’m sorry for my unannounced visit. I have a brief … question, but if now isn’t a good time I’ll come back later.”

Emmy nodded once, curtly, and extended her hand to indicate the visitor’s chair across from her desk. Without waiting for Tija to make herself comfortable, she enquired, “what is your question?”

While slipping onto the proffered chair, Tija said, “I’ve been thinking that it would be a good experience for the medical and science cadets and other members of those two departments to hold symposiums on the Challenger on a regular basis. But of course we would need a space that would work for that purpose. I know I could always book some holodeck time. But I was wondering if we could use one of the meeting rooms on Deck Three? As long as we aren’t on a diplomatic mission and need them of course.” For a moment she’d been on the verge of mentioning that that idea had come from her session with the Counsellor. But somehow she felt … uncomfortable, maybe even anxious mentioning that. So she kept it to herself.
