Aizala had been a bit surprised about the unexpected invitation and it took her some time to make up her mind whether or not she wanted to go. In the end she decided on yes, partly because she felt obligated, but also because part of her actually wanted to get to know the rest of the crew better. So with a plate of Bajoran fingerfood in her hands she rounded the corner when when Harkness pressed the chime and thus she quickened her steps.
“Commander,” Aizala greeted him with a smile and a curt nod as she came to stand next to him.

Garth came hobbling down the hallway with wheezing grunts, utilizing his black cane with one hand and cradling a bundle of raw fruits and vegetables in the other. As he teetered to a stop beside the other two senior officers, he adjusted his hold on the bushel.
“This human custom of guests bringing nourishment to social gatherings always irritates me. The captain’s quarters undoubtedly has a replicator,” he huffed. “And the last time when I brought a traditional canine delicacy from Tellar Prime the other attendees were most ungrateful.”
After a slight pause, Garth added, “Good evening Commander, Lieutenant.”

Nijix finished putting her hair up and fastening the pins in place. She topping it off with a simple butterfly comb, directly in the bun at the back. Her bangs at the side wisped down but didn’t hinder her eyesight. Her hands moved down along her simple tunic and pants. A belt looped around her middle to break the mono-color in her theme. Feeling more confident in her appearance, Nijix turned from the mirror and headed to the door. She snatched up the few bags of replicated chips for the party. It felt wrong to come empty-handed to a social event according to what her past lives showed.
Nijix fell in just behind the CSO as he and the CMO greeted the XO. Since she was off duty, she greeted all three in a casual way.
“Well, this is going to be interesting. I hope I dressed right for the event. I leaned to casual since I was off duty.” Her tone held a sheepish quality to it but managed to remain respectful.

“Well Lieutenant, I’m not sure that this is exactly called nourishment,” Max said holding out a bottle of whiskey. “But this will sure be interesting, though I’m not quite sure what the Captain has in mind.”
Cmdr. Harkness - XO
As if to punctuate his statement, the door to Davis’ quarters slid open, revealing the interior to the collection of officers on the other side. The furnishings were fairly standard with little regard for personalization or unnecessary objects. Everything seemed to have a place. Well, except for the sofa and coffee table, which had been pushed to one side of the living space to make room for the larger table with enough seats for the senior staff and anyone else who cared to join the game.
A few seconds after the door opened, Emmy appeared beside it. She was dressed very casually in a pair of light gray pants and a maroon sweatshirt with the logo of Starfleet Academy on it. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a slight ponytail, quite different from her characteristic on-duty style of wearing it loose around her face. Perhaps most notable were the fluffy slippers encasing her feet; they appeared to be somewhat in the shape of tribbles.
She studied the group and then finally stated, “come in.” The words seemed unnecessary by virtue of her invitation and the door opening, but it seemed like people always required that confirmation that their entrance was permitted. Without waiting to see if that was satisfactory, she turned on her heel and made her way to the table. She indicated the pushed aside coffee table with a hand. “You may place your food there…” she instructed and then remembered the necessary politeness. “Please.” It befuddled her why the crew thought they needed to bring something when she had a perfectly good replicator. “Help yourself to any beverages or food that you require and then make your way to the table where I will explain the rules.”
She punctuated her instruction with assuming her own seat at one side. She calmly opened the deck of playing cards and methodically shuffled them as she waited for the other players to take their seats. “We will be playing Texas hold ‘em, which is a style of the old Earth game poker,” she began. She continued through her explanation of the rules of the game, providing a succinct summary. “The dealer button will begin with Commander Harkness. The player to his left will post the small blind, which is $5. The player to the left of that player will post the big blind, which is $10. Are there any questions before we begin? I will deal the cards for each hand.”

Garth grunted in surprise at the captain’s laid-back appearance, then subconsciously glanced down at his blue sciences uniform and the black lab coat he was wearing on top of it, which smelled faintly of chemicals from the day’s experiments. “Hmph,” he huffed, apparently displeased that he had not been explicitly informed of the informality of the event.
After dumping his sack of produce unceremoniously on the coffee table, Garth hobbled over to the seat to the left of Harkness, which Davis had labeled as the “small blind” position. He plopped down with a groan and leaned his cane against the table. “I can’t say that I’ve participated in much… ‘Texas hold them’ in my time. On Tellar Prime, the most popular card game is most similar to the human game of… Pit, that’s right.”
“But, he said with a snort, “I consider myself to be a quick study.”
