USS Challenger

Main Simm - USS Potterfield - Engineering

Keval took another look around the engineering bay, his antennae curling in suspicion and exasperation. With one hand on his phaser and one hand on his tricorder, working on the environmental controls would be… tricky.

Keval thumbed in an emergency alert protocol on his tricorder. He would need to regularly check in on his tricorder, otherwise it would broadcast an emergency alert that hopefully Challenger and rest of the away team would pick up.

Sighing to himself, Keval put down his tricorder, leaving it open, and turning his attention to the ship’s environmental controls. He wasn’t happy with the Sickbay situation, but he wasn’t quite ready to do a short-cut around the problem yet. There were just too many unknowns and dangers with the survivors holed up there - and putting them at more risk just didn’t make sense. Which didn’t sit well with Keval.

Keval began setting up a protocol to change the environmental settings without impacting Sickbay’s environment.

As he reviewed his environmental system protocol, Keval tapped the check-in icon on his tricorder, resetting the timer of his emergency beacon again. He slowly looked around the engineering bay one more time, before turning back to his terminal to make sure there were no errors in the protocol he set up. Keeping his tricorder open still, Keval made sure to compare his changes to the environmental systems with the ship specs he downloaded from Challenger, giving specific attention to Potterfield’s sickbay Sickbay.

For whatever reason the plant life stayed away from Keval as he did his work. Occasionally the tricorder would sense a vine slithering towards the consul the engineer was working at but, for whatever reason they never got too close to be a real threat.

The protocol, when executed, at least by the computer’s calculations, would retard the activity of the decks around sickbay and the cargo bay. It would be cold and dry but with proper environmental suits humanoid life forms wouldn’t be too impeded in their work.

Keval activated his suit’s communicator. =^= Vras to Challenger. I’m ready to re-calibrate Potterfield’s environmental controls. It is going to get cold and dry around here - much like a summer heatwave back home on Andoria. I’ll do my best to keep the effect away from Sickbay and the cargo bay. Ready to start on your orders. =^=

Just then, Keval heard the familiar whine of a transporter beam, and quickly spun around from the console he was studying, his heart racing from the combination of the surprise and being on edge with the hostile… vegetation.

When the beam disappeared Cadet TJCT found herself several feet away from her boss, the Chief Engineer. “Lt Vras, I am Cadet TJCT, I was advised by the Captain to beam over and render assistance, I’m not sure if it is because I upset the animal and woman in medbay who think those that are infected are infected by a parasite and want to administer a shock to the infected or if there is another reason. Sir. I do not believe this is a parasite but a life form, and I believe I know where it was taken from. Sir.” With her legs and right shoulder, arm and hand made from ZDP5523900AQ1, if she was correct, and past actions were the same the creature would avoid her like the plague. “May I ask if the creature’s home planet has been identified?”

“And greetings to you to, Cadet,” Keval said somewhat dryly, his antennae twitching in a combination of humour and surprise at his new cadet (that is, if his antennae could be seen through the environmental suit’s helmet, which was unlikely. “Please be aware that the Potterfield is a hostile environment. The entire security half of our away team have already been abducted by these lifeforms. It may seem quiet in here, but stay alert of all of your surroundings, and do not let your environmental suit get compromised.”

“As for your questions,” Keval started, turning back to his console one more time. “The origins of the cargo containers that these lifeforms originated from was classified to Starfleet flag officers only. We’ve forwarded that info to Challenger. In the meantime, our focus is on the rescue of the ship’s survivors in Sickbay, and the XO has is currently… interacting… with the lifeforms, I think.”

Keval turned around pointing at the console he was working on. “Our alternative plan is to make things too cold and dry for the fauna, which we know will neutralize them. I’ve set it up to reduce the effect as much as possible to Sickbay and the cargo bay, where unprotected crew might be. But the fauna has seriously compromised the power distribution system throughout the ship, and I’m not sure how much I trust the computer’s simulation.”

Keval sent over the Potterfield’s specifications to the cadet’s tricorder. “When we start the environment changes, I want you to keep scanning the power distribution relays and let me know if anything starts to go outside of the margins. I’ll keep following the progress of the ship’s environment changes so I can keep updating the program.”

“Any questions?”

-Lt. Keval Vras, CE

“I have already angered two in medbay, by my questions Sir. I will refrain from saying anything further. Though I disagree vehemently with the actions you are taking given they are based on the pair from medbay. I will now follow your instructions and watch you get absorbed by the creatures onboard.”
