USS Challenger
Reporting for duty - Engineering

She seemed to have more belongings then the rest of the cadets transferring to the Challenger, not that it worried her in the least. She was also older than most of them, not that that worried her either. She’d caught the strange & curious looks which had been thrown in her direction, not that that worried her either. Little worried her. Little caused her to panic. When you lived on a planet that had little visitors, except those whose life wasn’t entirely legal, you learnt to deal with whatever came your way, including nosey crew members. The young woman sitting beside her on the journey to the Challenger had done her upmost best to draw her into conversation, but Teresina Jason Christine Tanner or TJCT had given her a scarce few answers, revealing as little as possible, and in the end the other Engineering Cadet had fallen silent before turning her attention to the male on her opposite side, leaving TJCT in peace.“You’re going to come across as cold hearted, you realise that right?” Of all the people she could have been stuck with it happened to her brother’s best friend. At least he wanted the joys that Chief Engineering brought, and he wasn’t going to be based on the same ship as she was.
“Did you really think going Eng, was the right choice, given you’re hopeless at repairs?” TJCT lowered her voice for his ears only.
“You’re just red because I got in, and I know most of your secrets.”
“Did it ever drawn on you that I want DCE and you’re in the pit?”
“What’s the pit?” The woman next to her asked, also wearing engineering colours.
“Main Engineering.” Ross answered. “TJCT here comes from a family of cargo transporters, her and her brothers have been flying and fixing all types of ships, vehicles, weapons and tech since before they could walk. They chewed on pieces of equipment that normal people wouldn’t have given a thought of chewing on.”
At least he didn’t mention the accident that saw her loose and gain three modified limbs, and a set of artificial ears, TJCT listened to the pair’s idle chatter, tempted to click her jaw and turn off her hearing aids and go back to the world of total silence she preferred, but she wanted a heads up on what was said. She could have moved seats and faced them both and followed the conversation via their lips.
“How are you going to become CEO if you don’t want Main Engineering?”
“Who said she wanted a DH job?” Ross asked.
“Everyone wants a DH job.”
Ross snorted, as they started to stand and gather their belongings. “Not TJCT.” Ross ignored, the look that his best friend’s sister shot in his direction. “Do yourself a favour and find a new friend, this one isn’t as friendly as others.”
Stepping off the transporter and passing through security, TJCT ignored the woman who’d sat next to her, as she picked up her room assignment and stepped into the TL, glancing to watch the woman from the transporter board with two others, all of them wearing Engineering colours. TJCT gave her initials when the others had given their names. Relieved to find she didn’t have the transporter woman in her quarters, she entered her code and tossed her gear onto the lower bunk, leaving the other woman to take the top, immediately starting to unpack. Sliding her tool belt around her narrow waist, she headed out to find the CEO that she had to report too.

Engineering
Keval was on the second deck of Engineering, leaning over a console with two junior officers near him. The Andorian’s voice, while not shouting, was definitely at a ‘loud’ timbre. “No, no, no. “You can’t rely on the diagnostic’s computer’s own diagnostic of itself. You have to physically inspect the computer itself, and run a calibration check. I know the powers-that-be would like to replace all of us engineers with computers, but we don’t have to help those unknown conspirators with their goals.”
Keval looked around from the console and saw TJCT entering Engineering on the lower deck. “Cadet! Open up the diagnostic computer’s secondary relay, and check on the bio-neural packs. Even if you just need to count that they are all there.”
Keval stopped for a moment, and his antennae curled down as his eyes narrowed. “Wait. Are you new?”
