As the conversation rolled on among the group, Nijix kept her silence. She felt Garth look at her causing her attention to shift. Her eyes followed his stubby finger to the CMO, who was displaying some obvious signs of infection. She glanced at the door then to Anderson. It was a slight hint for the woman to be ready to block the door in case her quarry decided to flee. Nijix’s hand reached and discreetly snatched a tricorder from a tray, setting it to sedative.

She calmly walked up to the woman. If Dr. Torrirs didn’t react to her presence the CoS would avoid fast movements and inject the woman on her shoulder. The sedative was a fast-acting one, putting her down in moments. Nijix didn’t want a repeat of Richards while they were working.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Torrirs’ mind was a jumbled mess of erratic thoughts and conflicting emotions. They felt imprisoned by the limitations of their body, and being confined to a biobed was no help. Consumed by the fiasco of their own imagination, Obiah did not recognize Nijix approaching until it was almost to late. “Get away!” They spit, flinging their arms as though it would make a difference.

“Don’t touch-!” But their attempts were futile. “You foul, impudent-” By the time they had grown defensive, the sedative had clipped their shoulder. It wasn’t a clean stick, but its strength was enough to subdue the enraged doctor. “…person.”

Overcome by sudden exhaustion, Obiah felt themself slip into unconsciousness, but not before a final attempt to throw arms at Nijix.

After Nijix managed to stick Torrir, she stepped back. Her figure pushed away by the doctor’s arms as the medical chief crumbled to the sedatives. A slight discomfort crossed the CoS’s face before it vanished. She didn’t have much time to dwell on her actions when the XO’s orders came.

“Lieutenant. Once they get the Doctor restrained, I need you to gather Cadet Anderson and a security team, and get suited up to head back to the Potterfield. Have the team meet me in the transporter room in 30 minutes. “

=^= Harkness to Lt Vras. I need an engineer or two to help get the Potterfield back up and running. Any volunteers? =^=

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Lillian knew they would need the suits to get thru the ship and then the potterfield.
“Sir all members that have been on the potterfield should be quarantine here or in the quarters, till we have an effective plan to treat this”
Lillian hated that more people might get elected and die from this but if she worked hard and could contact the crew on the potterfield they may have more information and that could help solve the issues before more people died.
” we need to access the potterfield medical records that could help with the antidote creation i think getting to crew and getting information should be the priority not getting the ship moving” Lillian was sure she was over stepping telling her CO what the mission priorities where but what the hay we where all in the same sinking ship.

Lillian Anderson Security cadet

Meanwhile, the Andorian Chief Engineer’s voice came over the Harkness’s comm. =^= I’ve been meaning to explore a mysterious, drifting transport ships this week, Commander, so I will definitely be there. Cadet Paul will volunteer as well. Once I tell him he has volunteered, we will meet you at the transporter room. =^=

-Lt. Keval Vras, CE

Dr. Torrirs

Max held a finger to Lillian as he tapped his commbadge.

=^= Excellent Lieutenant, glad to accommodate. Make sure to grab an environmental suit, we don’t want anyone else contaminated with whatever it is. Meet you there in 10.=^=

“Cadet I understand your concern, but we have our orders. Getting the ship moving first is our primary objective. If we happen to come across the records, and the missing crew along the way, it definitely couldn’t hurt to stop and see what we can find out. But for now grab an environmental suit, and let’s head towards the transporter room.”

Nijix allowed the conversation between the Cadet and the XO to continue. She wanted to inject with a reason that too much caution would yield no results. It could be exactly what happened on Potterfield and why they were in such a terrible situation. Another thing that concerned her was the fact that Anderson wanted to quarantine everyone from the last away despite two having been cleared for duty. She remained silent on the matter as she watched the two leave, following suit to meeting them shortly in the transpoter room.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

=^= Harkness to Davis. I’m a bit ahead of schedule, but we’ve got our team. Lt Vras is meeting us in the transporter room with Cadet Paul. And I’m taking Lt Tavium and Cadet Anderson. Anderson is going to double as our medic, as Cadet Scott is sticking back with Lt Garth to work on the antidote. =^=

“Come on Cadet, we can walk and brief the Captain.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

=/\= Acknowledged. I will send Commander Korczak to Sickbay to handle the situation there. I did not hear Lieutenant Torrirs in your summary; what is their current assignment? =/\=

Davis, CO (crosspost)

As the away team members filed out of sickbay, Garth motioned for two nearby medical NEs to restrain the unconscious Lieutenant Torrirs to her biobed, then hobbled over to the medical console with a furrowed brow. His squinted eyes scanned the readouts that Cadet Scott had gathered. Garth raised an eyebrow.

“It’s unfortunate that this sickbay doesn’t have a morgue,” Garth grumbled as he snagged a medical apron off the wall and clumsily tied it behind his back, under his lab coat. He donned a surgical cap, surgical mask, new black latex gloves, and a hair net for his beard, while the medical NEs instinctively did the same.

Approaching the deceased Ensign Richards, Garth held out his hand for a laser-scalpel, which was promptly provided by one of his surgical assistants. Garth moved the goggles that sat high up on his head down to cover his eyes and paused for a moment as they whirred to magnify his vision. “I apologize for the lack of privacy, Ensign,” Garth said absentmindedly to the corpse on the bed in front of him. Then, with perhaps not the steadiest nor the most precise hand, Garth cut into the flesh of Ensign Richard’s arm, attempting to find one of these infectious “tendrils” (and hopefully the source of the “electricity”) the scans had shown.

After the team had left and Garth was all alone except for his assistants, Richards’ hand sprung out and grasped Garth’s by the forearm, a distant look in his cloudy eyes. The bioscanners reveled that the parasite was very much alive, despite Richards being very much dead. He wasn’t breathing, no heart beat, pulse or any other brain activity beyond what was being sent out through his brain stem via the parasite’s own nervous system. Richards had become, for lack of a better term, a zombie controlled by plant life.

Garth was not a man who startled easily, but the unexpected movement of the corpse caused him to reel back and exclaim “by the Progenitors!” as the scalpel clattered to the ground. After this second of reflexive retreat, the chief science officer regained his composure with a grunt of displeasure while trying to avoid additional movement as the xenoflora lifeform grasped his arm.

With a sharp exhale through his nose, Garth waved the medical cadets away, wanting them to maintain a safe distance. Then he slowly raised his unrestrained hand to press his comm badge. =/\= Garth to Captain Davis. I need a security team to sickbay, there is a hostile aboard. Additionally, your presence may be necessary if this proves to be a first contact scenario. =/\=

=/\= Lieutenant Tavium is on the away team but I will contact the cadet she left in charge. Notify me if my presence is required. =/\=

As he waited for security and the captain to arrive, Garth peered at the plantified Richards warily through his goggles. “Your grip on my forearm is rather uncomfortable. My name is Lieutenant Garth, chief science officer of the Federation starship Challenger. Can you understand me?”

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

There was no sign of comprehension or higher function beyond the slowly increasing grasp on the man’s arm, nails starting to dig into Garth’s skin.

OOC: PS, don’t forget to cross post to the bridge thread your comm to Davis.

Garth’s eyes narrowed to slits behind his spectacles, and his mouth curled into a snarl. “Phaser saw, NOW!” he snapped over his shoulder to the surgical assistants, who immediately went scrambling to find the medical device intended for amputations.

Garth refused to be infected, given that he was the most qualified member of the Challenger’s crew left to find a cure for this parasite and considering that time was of the essence to spare Lieutenant Torrirs and Cadet Osten from this horrible fate. As he was handed the phaser saw, Garth brought it down on Richard’s zombified forearm, attempting to sever the hand gripping Garth’s arm from the body of its host.

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

OOC: Was way ahead of you, don’t worry ;)

OOC: Hopefully James will be jumping in here too, but Janice, if you can make an NE/NC to handle this, that would be awesome.

Davis, CO (crosspost)

The doors to sickbay opened and the Counselor stepped through. His face a blank expression, he looked around and then said simply “Report, please.” and he made his way to the surgical suite, stopping just outside.
