Grayson was hurriedly tapping on his PaDD as he entered Engineering. From somewhere he could smell the acrid smell of scoured metal, and he wrinkled his nose but otherwise ignored it. He walked through the compartment but couldn’t find Lt. Vras, so he walked to his work station, tucked away on the starboard side and had a seat.

Grayson activated the terminal, and pulled up schematics of the Potterfield, then tapped his combadge.

OOC: I’ll reply to this post shortly in-character - just a few behind-the-scene things being worked out. I’ve fixed the subject line - this is actually a main sim thread.

Also - good point for all cadets: you generally don’t need to put a “tag [character]” in the subject line. Good practice is generally to read all posts, but at a minimum you can assume characters are reading main sim threads and any sim that takes place in their department. Tags in the subject line should be done infrequently - and are often only used in cases where a person may have missed a post or it is in a location that you don’t believe the other player is reading. Tagging can also potentially break the threading. Not having tags allows the location line to fit in with everything else going on the ship.

Keval was actually walking into Engineering as both communications came through. He saw Paul at looking up the Potterfield’s specs, which made the decision somewhat easy.

=^= I’ve been meaning to explore a mysterious, drifting transport ships this week, Commander, so I will definitely be there. Cadet Paul will volunteer as well. Once I tell him he has volunteered, we will meet you at the transporter room. =^=

Keval had been walking over to Cadet Paul as he was talking on his communicator, so the cadet may have heard the end of that conversation.

Grayson swiveled towards the Chief as the Andorian approached. He smiled as he heard “Cadet Paul will volunteer as well.” Of course, there was no question he would.

“I see you have the Potterfield’s specs up, cadet. Excellent! Download those to your tricorder and join me at the transporter room. We’re going to head over there and determine what dangers lurk by walking straight into them,” Keval said, sounding semi-serious. Keval was also making sure he had the ship’s specs accessible on his tricorder.

“Right away, sir,” Grayson already had the specs loaded on his PaDD, it was nothing to quickly slide the information to the tricorder as he stood and followed the Lieutenant.

As the two began to head out, he looked over at the cadet. “Now, what did you want to talk to me about?”

OOC (1): This is a good post to write about your character’s actions between what I wrote - such as before that last sentence.

OOC: (2): You should now have the Potterfield’s specs in your tricorder. The Potterfield is a Mythology-class ship, so the information on your tricorder can be located in the STF Tech Manual here: https://www.star-fleet.com/library/bookshelf/tm/monolith.html. Remember that as a cadet, your experience level may be somewhat limited, and your character may be more dependent on the written information in the specs.

“Sir,” Grayson spoke up after Commander Harkness’ voice stopped, “I’ve been studying the Potterfield and the Monolith-class specs ever since we arrived on station. All of the scans and reports indicate an infestation of crew space, there’s no reported penetration or violation of technical systems that should require an extensive repair.”

Grayson shrugged, “Since all signs point to this being an intentional power down, all we should need is access to power the ship up. Think we can get there before we get attacked?”
