(SNIP)

Garth offered a ‘humph’ before pulling out his PADD and thumbing through it for a moment, squinting his eyes at the small screen in his large hand. “It’s an aggressive dicot invasive species. To put it in layman’s terms, it’s a xenoflora cross between a moss and a broadleaf plant. We’ve found that it’s susceptible to synthetic auxins, at least if applied topically. But I wouldn’t recommend injecting acid into anyone’s veins as a medical treatment.”

Richards gave a sharp gasp and an exhale of his death rattle, his body no longer able to handle the burden that had been placed upon it.

And there he lay, motionless, not a single sign of his life registering on the biobed’s read out, but something was there. A little something on the edge causing an echo of life, and yet no heartbeat or pulse. Something… Electrical.

GM Wombat

“Well that certainly complicates things,” Garth mumbled under his breath as he witnessed Richards’ death throes. He slapped his comm badge. =/\= Garth to Science Lab One. Begin synthesizing the chemical weapon, and collaborate with security to identify a projectile means of administration. The Potterfield threat has been determined to be lethal and malicious. =/\=

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

Nijix listened to Garth’s explanation. It was such an odd creation because it sounded simple, but created so much destruction in the body. She considered tapping into Nylaa’s memories for any additional information. Before she could, her ears caught Richard’s death rattle and her head snapped over to his direction. When his monitor flatline, her own regret, and fear edged into her mind. She stared at his corpse for a few uncomfortable moments. It wasn’t uncommon for officers to die under Starfleet service. In fact, some long term officers had learned to expect when rather than if. A hard, cold truth to all of them.

When she heard Garth speak about coordinating with security, she nodded her understanding.

“I think Anderson and I should help, but I don’t want to further infect the ship. We’ve been cleared once, but I had to help bring Richards back.”

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

“What about the ones isolated in their own sick bay?” one brave NE asked the COS and CSO. “Shouldn’t we do something about them?”

GM Wombat

Garth scowled at the NE. “What do you think the chemical weapon is for? If we want to save the crew of the Potterfield, we need to have an effective means of defending ourselves, and them. Without it, they won’t open the sickbay doors or even respond to our attempts at communication and we will get more of our own people infected, which is exactly what happened last time. If you have an issue with the delay to assembling a second away team, you can take that up with the captain, Ensign.”

“We’ve got to take care of ourselves first Ensign. If we can’t find a way to contain this infection here on the Challenger, we’d only be taking them from where they are and throwing them right back in the fire. As it is, if they’ve survived this long, they are probably better off there.”

Olly quietly opened a medical tricorder, briefly scanned Cadet Richards to confirm what everyone had just witnessed. He then closed the tricorder, turned off the monitors on the biobed and then erected a quarantine field around the body in the hopes of containing the pathogen.

Next, he grabbed another hypospray and charged it with a dose of amphotericin. While this wasn’t exactly like injecting acid into a vein, it was certainly a hard drug with a bunch of side effects. He really had no idea if it was going to work either but he hoped that it would at least slow the fungus down until a better treatment could be figured out. He quickly moved over to Dr. Torrirs and administered a dose to them.

“Well, I’m hoping I can at least slow it down with a dose of this anti-fungal. Lieutenant Garth do you have any scans of the cellular structure that we can look at? We can figure out if any of the meds I’ve currently got can damage it at all. Otherwise maybe we can come up with a way to get your chemical weapon delivered in a way that isn’t going to poison the patients,” he said turning to the rest of the officers in sickbay.

Cadet Oliver Scott, Medical

Garth tapped his PaDD to transfer the data from Science Lab One to Sick Bay. “You misunderstand me, Cadet Scott. The chemical weapon is for topical administration to the hostiles aboard the Potterfield. The second away team will need to wear evac suits to avoid contact with the.... toxic substance. Discovering the medical solution to the infection is your realm, not mine. But I hope our data helps you find an antidote.”

“Cadet, chemical weapons aren’t exactly a clean way weapon. There is a reason why we don’t use them. Easiest delivery method instead is some sort of aerosol spray. If a topical cream will help carry the necessary items into the body to kill the infection, can it converted into an aerosol?”

Max turned towards Nijix, “Lieutenant, what is your experience with tranq weapons?”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Nijix held her tongue at Garth’s gruff reply to the NE. While he had a point, his execution was poor and gave little answers to their current dilemma. She listened to the statements between the medical staff, Garth, and the XO. Her attention moved over to the XO when he addressed her.

“My personal experience is limited. However, two other hosts have used them. Once to sedate a sick animal and the other was a fugitive. What specifically do you have in mind?” She had an inkling he wanted to tranquilize all the infected and lock them up.

Lillian had made the call to get a security team down to get a head count started and advised them to ware full hazmat gear.
Lillian watch as Grath enter sickbay but decided to hold her ground in the corridor for now

Lillian had been in the corridor since the recapture of Richards she was feeling a bit worn out. It had been a long day with the away mission, then chasing Richards and now it sounded it was spreading did that mean she was a carrier of the illness and does that now mean she and here team mate James would be needing to stay here for a while all she could do was hope was it was not deadly.

Lillian decided to report to the CoS lieutenant Tavium. Lillian walked to the sickbay and sore a cadet injecting the officers in the room.
“Sirs I have ordered the head count as per your orders lieutenant and have had Ensign James gathering up the members of the search party to bring them here for a check up. So how is Richards?” Lillian looked to the bed that he was on and almost immediately noted that he looked like death.

OOC: so sorry for my long absent but have had medical issues that i am sorting out have now got the audio to text programs and should be able to post Regularly from now on

IC: Lillian Anderson security cadet

(Lt. J.g. Garth, CSO)

OOC: Welcome back!
IC:
“I’m sorry Cadet, Richards did not make it,” Max said looking over at Lillian. “Unfortunately we don’t have the time to grieve at this moment, because we really need to figure out how to contain this, and hopefully help everyone here and on the Potterfield.”

He knew it was a hard ask. Over the years Max had lost enough people that he could compartmentalize it, and focus on the mission at hand. Because right now the crew needed someone to help lead them and keep them focused, so hopefully they would all be able to make it home.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

OOC: So… What are ya’ll doing?

GM Wombat

Nijix had been about to answer, but the XO broke the news first. Nothing the tone, she decided to say something supportive.

“I have faith that we will figure this out, we just need a clear plan and the determination to follow through. The main questions are: what are we able to do now and how to do what we need to do?” She waited for the others to weigh in on her questions, hoping someone might have a better solution than the one she considered.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS
