The story thus far…
Three days ago the USS Challenger left the star base en route home to Earth having successfully delivered Fleet Captian K’hal’s mysterious package. Before they left, the Station Commander, Captain Jackson, told the challenger of a distress beacon sent by the USS Potterfield.

The Potterfield is a Monolith Class (https://www.star-fleet.com/library/bookshelf/tm/monolith.html) cargo ship carrying biological and scientific specimens from a research station near Rigel to Malcor III.

When the Challenger dropped out of warp they found the Potterfield running on reserve power, enough to only power the sickbay located on deck 3, which has been sealed up tight, with no answer to comms sent into the room.

Additional scans showed that the ship was more or less in one piece, with an abundant flow of wildlife growing on the inside of the ship. A moss and flora composition covered the insides of the ship’s corridors and chambers, the thickest growth near a cargo hold on deck 10. Scanners indicated that there was life throughout the rest of the ship, something moving in the hallways, however, what that something was, it was impossible to tell.

A rescue party went over to explore and found the Med Bay sealed up tight but there were five life signs on the other side of the sealed door. In the course of the exploration, NE Richards got stung by something, along with a Security Cadet Osten. When the team beamed back, Richards bit the CMO and made a run for it, only to be stopped by Security and subsequently succumbed to his infection.
