“Thanks for clearing out some space for me Chief” Said Meredith, nodding her appreciation to the Flight Deck Chief as she finished taping off the allocated space.

She stood back and admired her latest project. It’s sharp lines stood out, even draped in a tarpaulin and surrounded by various boxes of parts and tools, it sat amongst the utilitarian Star Fleet craft like a hawk amongst a flock of pigeons.

Now all she had to do was rebuild the thing, pretty much from scratch. A friend from the shipyard had helped her source a good stock of genuine parts, at least enough to get her started on her latest passion project.

Lt Monroe - Chief Engineer

The doors to the flight deck closed behind Grayson as he entered. He stopped for a moment, then, after locating Lieutenant Monroe, made a beeline straight towards the tall Chief. His hands were full, in his left he carried a brown bag, with in which was a bottle of Irish Whiskey; in his right his tool kit. He hoped the contents of his left hand would convince the Chief to let him use the contents of his right hand on…whatever that beauty was partially hidden from view.

It was sharp, angular, looked kind of mean and definitely wasn’t Starfleet issue. And, it looked fun. Grayson smiled at the Lieutenant as he stopped beside her, “I had heard rumors you were bringing one of these aboard, but actually seeing it here…” Grayson looked from the craft to the Lieutenant and awkwardly thrust the bagged bottle in his left hand in her direction, “Here, I hope you like it…and that you let me help you with this bird.”

Meredith took the bag and pulled out the bottle, inspecting it with obvious approval on her face.
“Ach, the gesture is much appreciated laddie, but not necessary, I was hoping to get a few of t’ cadets involved, it’s good t’ get your spanners on some none standard tech now and again, good learnin’ how folks other than Starfleet poot things together.”

She paused and shook an admonishing finger at the cadet who almost seemed to be vibrating with eagerness.

“Noo this is a strictly volunteer project, I don’t want to see any of you down here during shift hours, and if ah see any slacking off o’ Yer studies than I’ll ban ye all from the flight deck completely.....”

She paused and took a firm grip on a corner of the tarpaulin, ready to pull it aside with a flourish.

“.... but if ye agree to my terms, ye can help me with this little beauty.”
