The turbolift slowed to a halt and the doors opened with a gentle swoosh, depositing a tall, thick man with close cropped black hair onto the bridge. He wore the yellow uniform of an engineer, with the pips indicating a mere cadet. In his hand he carried a PaDD, and he continued to enter information into it as he stepped off the lift, taking a quick look around the bridge. He was on a mission to report to Captain Rhodes the preliminary results of his research into the USS Potterfield’s condition, but, the Captain’s chair was empty. He walked over to NE Smith, working a science post, “Excuse me, would you happen to know where the Captain is?”
Smith nodded, “B’lieve he’s in his office, mate.”
“Thanks,” Grayson nodded as he walked to the Ready Room and rang the chime, then held the PaDD in both hands behind his back as he waited.
Cadet Paul, EngineerOOC: Nice Post! Good use of NE’s also
IC: At the sound of the word, ‘Enter’, the doors slid open to admit the Cadet. Through the doors was the sight of the Captain at the small window that looked out over the Challenger, next to a small dining table and two chairs.
Turning to the door, the Captain nodded and placed the cup of coffee he held on the table, then placed his hands casually behind his back. “Yes Cadet? Please come in.”
Captain Rhodes, CO
Grayson smiled as he walked through the doors and strode boldly to the Captain’s desk. Though it wasn’t protocol, he extended his hand to the man, “It’s a pleasure and an honor to meet you, sir,” Grayson glanced quickly out the window from which the Captain had just been standing and wondered what the Captain had seen.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Cadet?” Felix took the man’s offered hand and shook it, noting the grip and pressure applied. Some Captains preferred a professional distance between themselves and their crew, he certainly had in his younger days but time had dulled his ego slightly and he could remember his first cruise out of the Academy and his feelings of awe. He could only applaud this Cadets confidence.
“I’m Grayson Paul, I work down in Engineering. Lt. Monroe assigned me the task of analyzing the Potterfield’s structural systems, determining whether or not she can be restored to service, and to report my conclusions and any recommendations I may have to you.”
Cadet Paul, EngineerHe nodded and indicated the chair in front of his desk, then moved to his own chair behind it. “Aside from the biological infestation aboard the ship which our Science department needs to address, what’s your report on the structural systems? What are we looking at?”
Captain Rhodes, CO
“Captain,” Grayson began as he took the proffered seat, “Structurally, there’s nothing wrong with the Potterfield. Aside from the biological infestation, as you say. From the sensor data we’ve accumulated since we’ve been on post, it looks like someone turned the systems off, or reduced them to their barest requirements to keep deck 5 sustainable. I see no reason, once the infestation is handled, that we couldn’t just turn the ship back on.”
Grayson leaned forward in his chair, elbows on his knees, fingers interlocked under his chin, “Sir, if you would indulge me, may I offer an opinion on handling the plant life that has infested the Potterfield? My folks back home are tree farmers, so even though I work primarily with machines, I have interests and experience with plant life.”

=/\= “Garth to Captain Rhodes. We’ve found a solution to the infestation aboard the Potterfield, but I will need to speak with you before proceeding.”=/\=
A mere thirty seconds later, a restrained single chime rang from the door to the ready room. On the other side, the tellarite chief science officer named Garth and NCadet Ongsteadlea, a dark-skinned human woman, waited anxiously.
