Cadet Grayson Paul walked through the doors of Sickbay at a brisk pace, barely allowing them to open completely. He stopped for a moment, looking around. It was quiet and orderly, not too much going on at that present time. He stopped an NE Medtech passing by, “Pardon, do you know where Dr. Torrirs is? I’m supposed to check in with her.”The medtech gave him a funny look before pointing off in a particular direction. “Thanks,” Grayson nodded as he made his way in the direction indicated, stopping outside a bay area in which the CMO was standing. “Cadet Grayson Paul, reporting for duty, Doctor.”
Cadet Paul, Engineer“Of course, Dr. Ramier.” Torrirs smiled, reading through a PaDD that had been handed to them minutes before. Before they could say more, Paul’s voice snagged thei r attention from the young Cadet. “Why don’t you meet me in my office in one hour, Doctor? Then we can discuss your treatment plan. For now, continue administering fluids. The cadet’s body required all the hydration she can get.”
Ramier, who seemed disappointed at being put off for an hour, nodded in understanding. It was a simple, viral infection and he had been assigned to the case to refine his diagnoses and treatment skills. It could wait, although it might be uncomfortable for Cadet Sinatra, who was fast asleep.
Once departed, Torrirs turned to face Paul. “Hello, Cadet.” They studied him a moment, “Reporring for duty? I don’t believe you are a doctor. Did you come here for a medical evaluation?”
Dr. Torrirs, CMO
Grayson’s cheeks turned bright red and he gave the doctor a big, sheepish grin. “Oh heavens, Doc, I didn’t mean I was reporting for duty, here.”
“Clearly,” Torrirs retorted.
He laughed aloud and fidgeted nervously to the side, “But reporting for duty on the ship, means I have to report here for my checkup. Or medical evaluation. So, where do you want me?”
Cadet Paul, Engineer“Are you all right?” They asked, quirking an eyebrow in observation of Grayson, who presented himself with clear apprehension.
“Have a seat on an open biobed,” they gestured to the main sickbay, “and I’ll be with you in just a few seconds.” Without further word, the young doctor went to snag a tricorder for Paul’s physical.
Dr. Torrirs, CMO
Grayson nodded and turned towards the indicated biobed. As he walked, he grimaced. He knew he shouldn’t care particularly whether he was as articulate when presenting himself to others, but still, he was new here and wanted his shipmates and the experienced staff to approve of him.
He walked into the little area in which the biobed lay, surrounded by gizmos and diagnostic equipment of various sorts. He leaned down, pulling his boots off and setting them orderly beneath the bed. He looked then at the ceiling for a privacy curtain, but couldn’t find one.
Surely the Doc isn’t going to make me go nude here in view of everyone, he had no idea whether she would think that an adequate punishment for his misspeaking earlier, but, this was a physical exam, and all of his doctors back home required a lack of clothing to use their instruments.
He turned his back to the main area of Sickbay as he unzipped his uniform and removed it, all the way down to a tank top undershirt, socks and briefs, upon which was emblazoned the Starfleet logo directly upon his crotch. At that moment, Grayson was glad he had made sure to wear clean undergarments below reporting for his check up.
Cadet Paul, Engineer“What are you doing?” Torrirs paused at the threshold separating the treatment centre from the reception bay, their eyebrows risen in surprise at finding the Cadet in his briefs and undershirt. They knew, on some planets, physicians preferred their patients stripped of inessential clothing to perform a physical. Starfleet’s advanced medical equipment rendered that unnecessary, saving both time and the embarrassment of the unfortunate individual.
“Cadet,” they leisurely approached him, “I assume your native doctors do not perform physicals as we do in Starfleet. Aboard a Starship, you are not required to strip to your undergarments unless you possess an injury that renders it necessary–in which case you would be in a surgical suite, not sitting on a standard biobed with your wits about you.”
“Please put your uniform and boots back on.” Torris, having no intentions of humiliating Paul, shook their head. “If it is easier on you, I can leave this section so you may dress in peace.” They could not prevent others from entering or leaving the sickbay, but they could grant him the privacy from the CMO’S watchful eye. If that meant anything to the young Cadet.
Stifling a sigh, they stole a glance at their PaDD, pulling up Paul’s file while they awaited an answer from him. This was certainly an interesting day aboard the Challenger.
Dr. Torrirs, CMO
Grayson didn’t particular mind being in his state of undress, he wasn’t fully nude. His embarassment was situational, and didn’t mean to be causing a scene with the Chief Medical Officer in her domain.
“I’m sorry Doctor.” He nodded at her, while reaching down for his uniform pants. “You can go ahead and get started while I put my things back on.”
“Thank you. I shall,” Torrirs responded.
He latched the belt closed and began pulling the top of his uniform on as he waited for the Doctor’s assessment.
Cadet Paul, Engineer
His file pulled, and a brief glance over later, Obiah had retrieved a medical scanner to initiate a quick reading over his physical state. They weren’t checking for anything specific, rather anything that indicated illness or other ailments.
