As the turbolift doors hissed open on deck one of the Challenger, Garth’s heavy breathing filled the otherwise relatively quiet bridge at the end of the standard day shift. With a couple intermittent grunts, the stout tellarite man hobbled over to the door of the captain’s ready room, not making any effort to interact with the other miscellaneous bridge crew.

One of the Cadets at the Bridge consoles that Garth passed looked up, his eyes following the Tellarite as he wandered towards the Captains Ready Room. The loud, heavy breathing concerned him slightly and he had decided to watch the man in case he had to call Medical.

Garth reached out for the door chime, then retracted his hand as he squinted down at the gloves covering them. Eventually determining that they were the latex variety he typically reserved for his lab, Garth pulled them off with some difficulty, stuffed them in his black lab coat’s inside pocket, then procured a set of more formal, sturdier black gloves from the other side of the coat and yanked them down around his wide fingers.

Satisfied that he looked his best (despite his ill-kept hair still being frazzled in all directions), Garth proceeded to press the door chime three times in quick succession. He waited expectantly for the door to open, but immediately pulled out a PaDD to thumb through within the first couple of seconds.

“Enter,” came the accented voice of the Captain, and the door slid open almost instantly to admit him. Through the doorway the Captain could be seen sitting at the desk, cup of coffee half raised and looking at the door with one eyebrow raised. The chime being rung three times quickly had likely caused that reaction.

Putting down the PaDD his other hand was holding, Felix rested his palm on the desk and let a breathe slowly exhale. “Can I help you, Lieutenant?”

Garth’s eyes did not raise from the PaDD as he entered the ready room and plopped down in one of the chairs in front of the captain’s desk. He continued to scroll through the contents of the PaDD for a few long, awkward seconds accompanied by Garth’s rather obnoxiously loud mouth breathing.

He didn’t moved bodily, and the cup of coffee remained paused between the desk and his lips but the eyebrow that was already raised above the other, only served to raise higher again.

Finally, the tellarite man looked up as he adjusted his position in the chair. “These aren’t the most comfortable seats, captain, as I hope you are aware. And could you possibly dispose of your beverage, the smell of caffeine this late in the day will give me a headache.”

Dropping the PaDD into his lap, Garth leaned forward and squinted at Rhodes. “I don’t require assistance, captain, simply an introduction. I’m not much for formalities, but I’ve learned that it’s best to come to a mutual understanding with a ship’s commanding officer shortly after coming aboard,” he mused in a low baritone. “My name is Garth, I’m the new chief science officer.”

OOC: Have to love Tellarites huh!

IC: Felix said nothing immediately, he just raised the cup and took a drink slowly before putting the cup down on his desk beside his resting hand, the drink nowhere near finished. “The seats aren’t supposed to be comfortable, Lieutenant Garth. They are built so that lazy officers don’t waste my time.” His eyebrow dropped back into its normal spot.

“I’m sure you mean you will be the ships new Chief Science Officer once I have cleared you for duty? Last time I looked I am sure that’s how it went, especially after we come to that mutual understanding between a ships Commanding Officer and a Lieutenant Junior Grade you just spoke about, I’m also sure you didn’t miss that particular class at the Academy when you attended, despite your senior years Lieutenant. Maybe you could step outside and try again?”
