“Everyone who isn’t Osten, Nijix or Richards.. please get calmly see to Doctor Rivera; he will scan each of you and confirm you are not infected.” Obiah turned, surveying the group. “Lt. T’Kam, do you mind assisting me gathering a sample off of Richards’? The necrotic tissue needs to be removed, the puss cleared out so the wound can be sealed. However much you need is yours.”“Nijix,” Torrirs shifted their attention to the CoS. “You’re doing great. Whatever you can do to keep him calm will help us a lot. We’re not yet sure what is going on, but we’ll treat what we do understand until science analyses the samples.”
Nodding to her, Obiah left to retrieve surgical equipment to begin removing the necrotic tissue. Once tissue went necrotic, they knew it futile to try and save it–but they could stop it from spreading and that’s what they planned to do.
At this point they had gowned up and pulled on gloves. Now all that remained was the removal of the tissue.
Dr. Torrirs, CMO
Cadet Osten had certainly declined quickly. He was nonverbal now, consumed by the fever and chills. He was unnaturally sweaty, and Nijix’s arm would likely become damp from reaching underneath him. Wiles’ golden uniform started to turn a few shades darker where it was touched as the moisture soaked through. His hair clung to his forehead in dark streaks, contrasting its usual light poofiness.
Wiles did not resist Leuitenant Tavium as she brought him to the biobed, but he was almost dead weight, having become weak and lightheaded in the process of rising up from the floor. Eventually, though, Wiles was seated on the biobed, where he struggled to keep himself upright but resisted laying down.
As Cadet Kiernan approached with the hypospray of 200mg of naproxen, Cadet Osten stiffened and leaned backwards. If the other cadet did not take the hint and got too close to Osten, he would pitch forward and swing at Kiernan, attempting to fight the doctor off and potentially sending himself tumbling off of the edge of the biobed in the process.
Perhaps Nijix or others that were watching him closely could tell that Osten was in a pretty severe “fight” mode. However, he was choosing these fights carefully. Cadets Bennet, Kiernan, and Richards (all of whom he had acted aggressively towards) did not share a few key traits with Commander Harkness or Lieutenant Tavium (who Osten had seemed to avoid confrontation with).
(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)
Kiernan struggled to inject the naproxen into Osten’s system. Below average in height and weight, although hardly abnormal, Kiernan was overpowered by Osten’s strength. His balance regained, Kiernan made sure Wiles was safe before hesitantly approaching. He didn’t know how many times he would have to try this, but he hoped this would work. Once more, in hasty effort to get the medication into his system (partially relying on Nijix to keep him stable), Kiernan went to inject the hypospray into his neck.
“Alright boys and girls, you heard the doc. Let’s give them room to work, while the rest of us get checked out,” he said as he motioned to the rest of the away team to move towards the other side of the quarantine area. He kept a wary eye on Osten, he was not in a good spot.

Lillian made her way to Doctor Rivera and joined the line beside there other members of the team waiting for scans.
As people piled towards the doctor, Rivera worked to scan their bodies, confirming they had negative results when considering the pathogen at play.
Korczak noted the XO’s look toward Cadet Osten and simply moved toward the young man, keeping a healthy distance. Crossing his hands behind his back, he stood and looked at Osten and said in his typical calm and flat manner “Hello, Cadet. I understand there were some unexpected complications you ran into with your team, and I know you are not feeling well right now. I’m sure that the Medical staff has you in good hands, though. Would you mind talking with me for a moment while you rest?” Korczak was well aware of the Cadet’s tendency towards introspection and his tendency to defer to others in a group, so he added “Sometimes I find it best to discuss such matters with those who are the most keen observers first, before I delve into what happened with others.”
Korczak, CNS
Scanned the vegitation she had with a tricorder and fed the data directly into the computer to do a series of standard tests that were manditory. She scanned them again with more specialized equipment looking for unusual elements. Potential chemicals that had hallucigenic or psychological effects. And finally looked for any contagions that might explain NE Richards festering wound. That Osten did not show any such signs of visible necrotic flesh didn’t seem normal. But Osten’s wound had been treared imediately. And Richards wound had went untreated while the Transporter operator had waylaid them long enough to lecture them in the transporter room. She forwarded her results to the doctor and Lt. Tam. She didn’t have the actual wound causing thorn or projectile and her encounter hadn’t manifested any signs of the infection that Osten and Richards suffered. Only her reaction to choking and that was a factor she considered unrelated to the issue at hand. She added as a header that the anaylisis she made was only to form a baseline for what was growing out of control on the Potterfield. That and new away team should wear full EVA suits and be aware of hostiles likely members of the crew of the Potterfield who were infected by the same infection that rendered Osten hostile and NE Richards unconcious. Doing all this kept her to busy to give into her panic. And being as short as she was kept her out of sight of Osten. Once the scanning was done she isolated part of both samples and putting them into a petridish set them into a incubator. What was left she resealed and placed into a stasis container. Almost as a after thought she ran a comparrison analysis of what she had against the Potterfields cargo manifest to see what it might be or discover if it was some unknown.

A list of several things that happened all at once, broken down to succinct paragraphs:
Osten continued to deteriorate becoming more and more aggressive, but the medicine seemed to slow the fever somewhat. Richard’s on the other hand seemed to only be getting worse, the flesh around the wound growing blackish purple and his eyes starting to white over. He was changing, slowly, but something was affecting his whole body.
Everyone else would prove to be clean. A few pollen and micro spores but nothing that couldn’t be washed out with a quick decontamination spray.
The science results came back with foreign compounds. Lots and lots of bacteria related to other types found on other planets but nothing was a perfect match. Same with the blood samples from Osten.

“So Doctor. Are we clear? I’d like to get out of your way and get back to the ship to see if we can find out what happened.” Max was getting a bit anxious, there was a lot of work to do, and they were still trapped in isolation.
Cmdr. Harkness - XO
Nijix struggled to place Osten on the biobed. Her arm wrapped about his torso and her uniform soaked with his sweat, ignoring it for now. It wasn’t the first time or last time she stank from the job. As Torrirs barked out orders to get people moving, the CMO’s attention turned to her. By now, Nijix had gotten the Cadet up onto the bed but he refused to lay down. She nodded in understanding at her fellow officer’s words.
“I’ll try my best, doc,” Nijix replied in earnest.
She noticed Osten’s reaction to Kiernan. It was a hint to a violent reaction if she left it unchecked. Her hand rested on his shoulder while she gestured for Kiernan to hand her the hypospray. If or when it was passed to her, she then looked back at her Cadet.
“Cadet, I’m going to give you something for the fever. Your condition is worsening and this will help ease it. Will you let me do this without a fight?” she waited for his reply, letting him feel in control.
If he resisted, she would make one last urge before considering the last option. Forcing it on him.
-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS
A sigh of relief escaped Kiernan’s lips as Nijix managed to inject the medication into Osten’s system. Without it, his fever would progress to the state of overheating, which his body showed signs of already. Hovering behind Tavium, his attention focused on Wiles’ condition, Kerinan watched for any adverse reactions to the naproxen. For all he knew, this medication did not pair well with whatever had infected his body.
Cadet Osten eyed Lieutenant Tavium warily for a second, glancing at the hypospray in her hand. Then Wiles abruptly reached out to snatch the device from Tavium, and if successful would quickly administer the medicine to his own neck. It seems he needed even more control than what she had already allowed him.
Wiles slumped forward for a moment as the naproxen ran through him, helping his fever a bit, at least allowing him to appear more cognizant when he opened his eyes again. His gaze met Leutinant Commander Korczak’s.
“My keen observation, counselor,” Wiles snarled through gritted teeth, “is that you are a useless waste of space that Starfleet Command obviously buried on this ship of incompetent backwash crew to ensure that your utter lack of approachability, relatability, and sociability doesn’t cause a massive morale nosedive on starship that actually matters.” He would spit in Korczak’s direction, eyes burning with a misplaced aggression.
(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)
Lillian was really shocked when the cadet Osten spoke to a superior officer in such a way and then she processed what he had said. It was no secret that she herself did not like councillors but really there was no need for that kind of talk. Lillian wonded how much of what he said was the illness and how much was his own thoughts and feeling.
Korczak looked at Osten and a very uncharacteristic smile played across his features momentarily. Taking off his glasses, he pulled a small cloth from his pocket and began wiping the lenses. “You know, Cadet… I have a feeling that at a point in the very near future you are going to be quite embarrassed at that particular choice of words. But I assure you, I won’t hold a grudge. Your shipmates may have a bit less understanding at being called ‘backwash’, but that will be up to you to deal with.” Tucking the glasses in a case as he spoke, he slid it into the same pocket with the cloth. He then looked at Osten, his face the calm and expressionless mask it typically was.
Catt’s ears lifted and adjusted to face Osten as the man apparently revived enough to utter vile slanders at the CNS. She peered over the equipment she had been mostly hidden behind. Her tail had been quiting down but Osten’s hostility set it whipping about again,
“I am not sure if it’s the metal toxicity or the bacterial soup from at least six worlds or both that is causing the fever on Osten. But Richards used the standard med kit sterilzation packet on him and that mostly stopped the rapid growth. Leaving his latent bigotry and metal toxicity as potential causes for his behavior. Of course I’m a xenobiologist not a doctor.” , Catt had no illusions that her trying to help might be taken well by Osten and her speaking up likey would set him off again. But if he did break loose and come at her she wasn’t going to be defenceless and have her back to him this time, and she admitted to herself. She did want some payback.
Cadet Catt Bennet. SciencesLillian was waiting to be scan when she decided to ask so questions
“Doc how long this like to take i like to go report what happened over there”
Lillian always hated standing still it was a waste of time but she knew she could not go anywhere till she was cleared for duty.
It was hard to know what to do she was trained but this was a bit out of the boring day to day stuff that happened on starship. people alway thought this stuff happened every day but really its rear on starships we it was on all the one her family had been on well apart for the war.
“Sir” she look at Commander Harkness ” do you want me to report to the bridge once or should i say if i am cleared”Lillian if cleared will leave to report to bridge if told too.

“It’ll take as long as it needs to Cadet. But once you are cleared, go get cleaned up and grab some chow. Then come back here, and help out the doc in case something goes wrong. If we need you, we will call. Sounds good?” Max was trying to remain calm, but he was also wondering how long it was going to be. He wanted to go find their wayward cadet.
Cmdr. Harkness - XO
Nijix was successfully taken by surprise. Her hand was unable to jerk the device out of Osten’s reach when he grasped it and injected himself. She blinked then frowned at his venomous words and bit her tongue. For now, she allowed him freedom with his actions because he wasn’t in his right mind. Later would be a completely different matter.
She glanced at the Counselor with a subtle and apologetic look.
Any more comments were cut off when Lillian requested directions. Nijix thought a moment, but the XO answered instead. It was sound advice causing her to agree with him.
“You heard the XO, cadet. Go get something to eat while you can and return back here afterward.”
-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS
Reconvening with the Doctor, Rivera went over briefly the scans he had taken of the assembled crew. The concern once filling his gaze has been eradicated by the reassurance of their scans.
“I think a quick decontamination should do it, Doc.” He said, gesturing to the tricorder in his hand.
“I agree.” Torrirs turned to the crew, “Listen up!” They yelled, their voice hoarse from barking orders at their passing medical staff. “It looks like the lot of you are clear, aside from a few spores here and there. So, we’re going to get you through a decontamination spray and then you’re off!
“Please grab a glass of water–hydrate or dydrate!” Although it sounded mocking, there was no amusement behind their voice. “Food and rest! I understand you have duties, but your health comes first. Now, please follow Dr. Rivera to decontamination and stay clear of my sickbay for as long as possible!”
Without further word, Torrirs directed their attention to Richards, peeling and cutting away the material of his uniform to uncover the infected areas of his skin. There was no chance of reversing the necrosis, not that they could tell, so debridement seemed their best option. “I need anaesthesia on hand!” In case Richards came to, they wanted to be prepared to keep him as still (and comfortable) as possible.
