Max sighed with relief. It was good to be back on the Challenger, even though their situation really hadn’t improved.

=^= Captain, we’re back. Though the chief wasn’t able to get a lock on Cadet Locke, nor any of the other life signs detected. I don’t recommend sending a second team at this point, but if you do, I’d recommend full EVA suits. Who knows what is on that ship. =^=

“Hope you can help him Doc,” Max said moving over towards the medical NE. “He was stuck with something before he collapsed, and I managed to grab it as a sample before we pulled out.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

“We will do everything in our power,” They assured him, glancing down at their scans to see if anything could be told of them.

“Do you have that sample on you, Commander?” Torrirs turned their attention from the medical cadet to Harkness. “If not, have you got science analysing that organism–or whatever it is? Unless scans come back with a poison we’ve encountered before, that’s going to be our chance at creating an antidote.” If it was a poison at all.

Obiah wasn’t positive what to call it at this point, nor did they know if it was biological or synthetic. Until they had further information on what was happening in the NE’s body, they couldn’t be sure.

Dr. Torrirs

“Of course. I managed to scoop it into a specimen jar before I dragged him back to the group.” Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the jar and held it up for the Doc. “The scientists will have to go through our scans later, haven’t had a chance to talk to them since we beamed back. Been a bit preoccupied.”

“Hmm. I see.” Torries nodded, relieved to find the sample nestled between his fingers. “The sooner, the better, Commander. Once we can determine the container, nor you, are carrying the pathogen on its exterior, we should be able to transfer it to science; whenever you’re ready.”

Wiles stood only a foot or so from Lieutenant Tavium as he rematerialized on the Challenger. His phaser rifle was still clutched in both hands, his knuckles white. He clenched his jaw as he tried to keep his teeth from clattering.

Although Wiles had acted aggressively toward Catt and caused her real physical damage, anyone who might read his body language would see that he was extremely tense, and likely for the reason that he was mentally holding himself back from the brink of an even more drastic outburst. There was turmoil raging in the mind of this normally pacifistic and good-natured man, as he coped with whatever motivated him to act so violently as best he could without inflicting further damage to his crewmates.

Tavium’s attention seemed to be a centering point for the fledgling officer. He looked into her eyes with dilated pupils, his vision unfocused and foggy. He spoke through grinding teeth. “I can’t. give up. my weapon. What if. others. are. infected?”

“We shouldn’t be here.” His legs started to buckle from under him.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Lillian watch as Osten and CoS. Lillian still had her weapon and if necessary she would stop the others from leaving this room to protect the ship.

Tavium was surprisingly quick when the Cadet’s legs buckled. Her arm reached out and wrapped about his upper torso, her feet widened to stabilize them both. If he didn’t push her away, she would slowly guide him to sit on the floor. Her concern was preventing any damage caused by falling.

“Breath Osten, in and out. Close your eyes and shut out all the sources of anxiety until you’re able to regain your composure,” Nijix coaxed in a gentle, but firm voice. Her eyes studied his behavior while her symbiote flooded her mind with medical and security training, both working together.

“I’ll keep an eye on everyone else. No one is going to hurt anyone while I’m right here,” She added in hopes it might make him relax.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Lillian was still watching as the CoS help Osten fall to the floor. She continue watching the Medical staff working around her and the other Away team members.
Guarding a door was like default position for a security cadet so she continued to do until someone told her otherwise.

Lillian Anderson
Security Cadet

Catt was seen to her broken wrist was set she was scanned the gizmos and doodads of the medical trade were waved about in the appropriate manner. She didn’t really pay attention to what was going on after the shot that eased the pain. She had lost sight of Osten after he had slumped. So once she was given a clean bill of health told to avoid heavy lifting and had dictated signed and sent her report she wandered over to Cadet Anderson. “They are done with me. Apparently nothing wrong that wasn’t caused by a rifle butt. So I’m headed to bed.” She was obviously tired, her tone flat and matter of fact. She didn’t really wait for a reply but would leave if not stopped.

“Relax and close your eyes Cadet,” Max said looking over at the Cadet. “We are safe here.”

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Catt turned at the sound of the XO’s voice, “Sir? I. Am. Sorry. But I don’t know if I will ever feel safe again. I don’t know if I can even trust myself.”, and she looked about.”I realise we should stay put. But what attacked the away team and who attacked me are not the same. So send me to the brig. Or confine me to quarters. But sir. Let me get away from Cadet Osten and every person carrying a phaser. The med staff fixed me.” She said holding out the previously broken wrist. “No infestation can be detected.”, and she sighed slid down the wall to sit on her haunches. “I am just scared sir. Off balance and need to be alone to figure out what mistakes I made.” Her voice getting quieter as she realised they were in quarentine for the forseeable future and she wasn’t getting out “Sorry.”, che squeeked out her voice choked with tears she struggled to keep out of her eyes.

Cadet Osten struggled feebly as Lieutenant Tavium caught him, but allowed himself to be lowered to the ground. He dropped the rifle to the floor in front of him and sat with his knees to his chest, arms hugging himself as he shuddered. Wiles’ gaze flickered between focusing on Nijix’s left and right eye as she spoke, then eventually settled on some spot on the floor as he tried to breathe steadily. Closing his eyes did not last long, but Wiles did make multiple attempts at doing so. Inevitably, they would flash back open and dart between the figures standing above and around him.

Should someone attempt to remove the rifle from Cadet Osten’s reach, he would be unlikely to notice or care, now pretty much preoccupied with his feverish symptoms.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

“Cadet Bennet, I empathize with you. Honestly. So I hate to say this but even if they gave you the all clear, we don’t know what we’re dealing with. You could still be infected and no signs are shown until later. Isn’t it better to be safe than sorry?” Nijix asked, hoping the Cadet’s logic would help her see the point.

While Nijix spoke, she removed Osten’s rifle and additional weapons she might’ve found. Then she stood upright and faced the feline Cadet, the weapons placed on the table and out of anyone’s reach. However, to avoid the conversation coming off as aggressive, Nijix didn’t approach Bennet. The cadet was skittish enough without her drawing close and forcing unwanted comfort.

“While you might not be able to be alone, I have a suggestion. When I find myself in a situation I prefer not to be in, I tend to find a place to sit down. Then I try to tune out everything around me and focus on pacing my breathing. It’s worth a try to calm your thoughts, emotions and regain some peace until this situation is over. Then you can deal with them more directly in your own fashion,” Nijix attempted to look calm, but sincere as possible.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Catt sighed choked a bit on her tears and took a deep breath her ears swiveling to every sound in sickbay. And she opened her eyes to look at Lt. Tavium with a watery look. “Sir. I… am not being very professional.”. And she catches her wildly lashing tail and strokes the tip. ” we are a emotional species. I as much as any other. I had a bad moment when choking. It has left me in a chemically unbalanced state that is uncomfortable in that I never experianced it before. So I am reacting more than thinking.” And Catt rose to her feet again pausing to balance herself. “I will be fine now. “, and she moved herself into a corner away from any others a2nd started fussing with her fur and uniform trying to make herself presentable. The odd upset vocalization escaping her throat dispite her best effofts.

The doors to Sickbay slid open and the Counselor stepped through. Looking around, he spied Dr. Torrirs the XO and said “Sir. Doctor. I am understand the Away Team had some difficulties. I am here to assist, if you need it.”

Korczak, CNS

“Counselor,” Torrirs seemed almost grateful to see him. It was clear both Bennet and Osten were suffering from psychological ailments, and they were not certified in the area, nor did they believe it fair for Nijix to be hounded, despite her obvious consideration for the Cadets. “I do believe Cadet Osten and Cadet Bennet are suffering from a form of psychological trauma. Lt. Tavium has been trying to calm them down; I’m not certain of her success.”
