<snip>]
Catt waited for Mr. OSten to take position. Watching the biomass from the corner as she waited. Osten had a point the footsteps didn’t mesh with her theory. But nor did they disprove it. Plantlife though took many forms in the univere some of whom were ambiatory others were carniverous. There was even likely to be some that could speak or use telepathy. Infinate diversity after all. Anything was possible. That they might run into something like that here was unlikely. The idea that she was likely wrong sapped the joy out of her. Just another Catt being a moron moment her inner voice scolded her. Her tail went still and her ears seemed to droop.
“Someone used a phaser on the door controls. Thats likely whats making the footsteps a crewman trapped outside the sickbay”,, zhe said flatly.
She dropped her guard and just started scanning the biomass slowly creeping closer.

To GM scanning Scanning ever scaning information like nuggets panning?

Cadet Catt Bennet. Sciences.

“Alright alright, damn, are you done yet?” Cadet Osten shrugged off the dermal regenerator as Cadet Richards finished sealing the wound. He walked away without a look back, buttoning his uniform back up and rubbing his arms. He spoke rather loudly to himself as he headed toward Cadet Bennet. “I guess some department cadet programs have higher standards than others. All that time to patch up a tiny scratch? Embarrassing.”

As he reached Catt, Wiles crossed his arms and looked her over. “Why don’t you let your tricorder do the talking, runt. Your critical thinking skills are obviously impaired, probably always have been. Just read the machine.” He turned his back to the other cadet and looked down the hallway, hugging himself. “At least it’s a little warmer over here,” he muttered.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Catt reacted as if stung and she straightened up every inch of her four inch frame tight, she still had to look up to look Osten in the eyes.
She held that gaze a moment. “In case you failed to notice Mr. /Osten/ the tricorders are not functioning well. There is to much life loose on this ship for remote scanning.”,
She dismissed her anger and turned back to face the biomass. Her tail though held a obvious grudge and whipped about angrily.
“Because Mr. /Osten/ just because there are other factors at play does not mean we are not staring at what wounded you. Often nature presents multiple unreleated threats.
So never ever assume you know the whole story. You would likely know this if you had ever faced a /real/ threat in your spoon fed life. Also Mr /Osten/ I grew up /feral/. If you ever call me a runt when I am free to react unhindered by the best interests of the mission and the regulations of the service. I /will/ feed you that rifle. Tear out your liver and dance on it. All four feet of me.”, she said in a dangerous sounding whisper that carried in the silent tomb of the ship. She then flipped her tricorder back on and moved closer to the biomass to focus the scans on it.

To GM; Scanning the biomass. She is distracted by her anger though.

Cadet Catt Bennet. Sciences.

Cadet Osten’s face contorted at Cadet Bennet’s threat. His muscles tensed, back still to the other cadet, who was clearly distracted by the mass in front of her. Then, suddenly, he whipped around and attempted to strike Catt in such a way that she dropped the tricorder, before using his left hand to try to shove her face into the moss she had been scanning.

If his surprise attack worked, he would stomp on the dropped tricorder, crushing it with a CRACK. Then he would lean forward and growl into her ear, “is this better than remote scanning?”

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

Catt had been turning away from Osten when the rifle butt was swung so it didn’t hit the tricorder squarely and her hand took the brunt of the impact. There was a loud snap and the pain brought tears to her eyes. The tricorder flew clear crashing to the floor the impact had scent it’s delicte settings awray and it screeched like a wild animal in it’d dearh throes. The sound was painful to Catts ears. A sharp brain piercing pain that left her stunned. She was helpless as her head was grabbed and her facre pushed into the biomass. The sharp intake of breath as her lungs sought air to scream caused plant matter to lodge in her throat. So the scream never made it out of her throat and she started to to choke. She started to panic. Her logical responces shut down. She was a feral animal again. Instinct muscle memory repetative defence exercises. All of them sprang into action. She lifted her leg tightly pulled in and kicked at Osten with a ferocity only desperation could unlock. She had told the counselor. She was Feral. It had disturbed him almost as much as it disturbed Catt herself.

“That’s enough!” Max said raising his voice. He walked over and stood next to the two cadets. “Let her go now. Or I’ll personally throw you out of this ships airlock. Do you understand me Cadet?” he asked leaning in towards Wiles.

Wiles’ leg was struck by Catt’s wild kick, causing him to release her and stumble backwards as Commander Harkness approached. “Damn it,” he hissed in pain. He backed away, hands up in surrender. “Wh-whatever. She asked for it Comman-mander. Did-d you hear the way she spoke to me? I guess it’s t-true what they say about her being raised by rats. She’s got no manner-ers. Or common sense.” He spoke through clattering teeth, and he shivered visibly.

Without waiting, Max turned towards Nijix. “Get him out of here now. Do your sweep, and keep an eye out for Cadet Locke. He beamed over with us, and is now not on the Challenger.”

Max just sighed, what the hell had just happened there.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

To Catt it didn’t matter why Osten let go she was free. It allowed her to start thinking again. Control. You don’t win using pure instinct unless your lucky. She almost heard her Andorian sensi tell her. But she had no air. She couldn’t even manage a cough to clear her throut she pivoted to face her attacker. But it was like she kept spinning and she crashed to the floor gasping. Limbs flailing wildl0y in her panic. Her eyes having a hurt betrayed look to them. She had come to believe in civilization. It was ironic that finally learnig to trust people was going to be what killed her.

Cadet Catt Bennett. Sciences.

As the two separated Max turned his back on Osten and looked directly at Catt. “Are you okay Cadet?” he asked as he reached out a hand to help her back up.

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Cadet Osten had lost interest in Catt and Max, and turned back to Cadet Richards with a scowl, rubbing his arms frantically and hiking his shoulders to his ears. “Did you-u think-k to bring a thermoblank-ket? It’s free-eezing in here. Shouldn’t you exp-pect as much from a ship running on min-nimal life support? Id-idiot.” The sweat on Wiles’ brow from the muggy atmosphere was still present.

(Wiles Osten, Security cadet)

Catt was far from ok. She was noisily trying to suck air. She grabbed at her throat with the unbroken hand. Her flailing getting weaker. She tried to answer the XO but that wasn’t happening. So she stared at his face desperately trying to comunicate her fear, her. Her what, the sight of him calmed her. She trusted him. The feeling came from deep within ber, Oh of all the times for Caitan biology to act up. She thought as with every ounce of strength and the last air she had in her lungs she spasmed and screamed,
“CHROWL!”, it was half purr, half growl and totally beyond her control. the plant matter she was choking on dislodged and went flying and she greedily gulped air. She sighed internally , and thought. If I die now it’ld save me the embarrassment. Her more scientific thinking answered . Being choked does actually trigger sexual responces it seems a functional repr… but she cut that off. And said between gulps of air. “Hand, broken.” Sharp intake of breath. “Mycanoid spore… Growth… infected. Osten. Me.... danger. Sir. Sorry. Must. protect away team sir” And and she dropped her good hand to the phaser on her hip and tried to trigger it with it still on her belt and thus stun herself.

Cadet Catt Bennet. Sciences.

Max saw what Catt was going for, and quickly grabbed her hand, as he pulled the phaser off of her belt and held it in his own hand.

“Stay still for now Cadet. We’ll get you back to the Challenger in isolation. Then we will get this solved.”

=^=Harkness to Challenger. We’ve got ourselves a bit of a problem. Some sort of spore here on the ship has infected two of the cadets. Cadet Bennet is hurt, and needs medical attention. Recommend isolation and biohazard contamination protocols. The whole team is going to need to be quarantined. =^=

Cmdr. Harkness - XO

Nijix had been distracted for one moment. It was all it took for things to crumble as she turned to watch Bennet and Osten fight, unsure who started what.

“OSTEN!” Nijix shouted, her voice filled with authority. He was the only one that technically had to follow her orders.

However, it wasn’t needed when the XO stepped in. She felt ashamed for not noticing it earlier as another Cadet suffered the consequences. It took her a moment to curb her tone while she looked at Osten, her eyes narrowed and angry. Something was wrong. This was completely out of character for his profile and what she had experienced from him.

“Something is not right with his behavior… sir.” She stated, but gestured for Anderson to remain and Osten to accompany her.

“I’ll keep an eye on him, but I think with two Cadets infected it’s too risky to explore the ship anymore. I feel it’s best to get us on the Challenger and figure out what happened. The Science department might be able to identify the species then medical can purge our systems.”

Cadet Osten froze as Lieutenant Tavium raised her voice at him. He settled under her narrowed gaze, seemingly sobered a bit by her disapproval. Still, he spoke up when she paused. “Ben-bennet threat-threatened me! It-it was self de-defense. Don’t let her-er fool you-u, she’s vic-cious.”

As she drew closer to her Cadet, her hand extended, “Cadet Osten, give me your weapon please.”

If she suspected any aggressive behavior toward her, then she would disarm him.

-Lt. Nijix Tavium, CoS

Lillian was Taken by surprised by the sound as she was about to take point to explore the ship how ever it was not an enemy But the two other cadets getting in to a fight.
“what?” Lillian was so taken of guard she didn’t even bring her weapon to bear on them.
she was shocked at the unprofessional behaviour the XO step in to break them up. infected and missing cadet this mission was not going well.
“Sir, we need to find cadet Locke” Lillian advised in a matter a fact way, she hoped it didn’t sound like disrespect.
It was then that the Chief step forward to take Osten weapon.
Lillian raised her weapon to cover, Just incase he was not inclined to give up his weapon.

Wiles looked down at his rifle as Nijix and Lillian demanded that he surrender it. He instinctively held it closer to his body. “What, this-s? I need this-s. Didn’t you hear-r me-me when I said-d that there’s some-something on the ship! Why aren’t you listening to-to me??” He voice raised slightly in exasperation, but he didn’t make any aggressive actions or raise the rifle. Although, he was obviously refusing to give it up.

“We should get a shaped explosive charge to get thro that door and get the crew out” Lillian decided the time for kit glove was gone we need to get these ppl out now and find Locke.

Lillian Anderson Security Cadet
(edit spelling error )

Catt let the XO disarm her without protest and almost felt a electric shock when he took her hand, she made no move to pull her hand away. This was so unlike her usual behavior it startled her. She looked into the XO,s face with large dewey eyes and felt like everything wrong in the universe would correct itself if only he held her close. Her ears went a bright pink. Her breathing became a breathy expectant soft panting, and she was purring… she was purring? Her brain couldn’t just let go and indulge in the fantasy. He’s your superior officer. He’s not Caitan. He’s not going to want a broken child thing that can’t reach physical maturity in that manner. Her inner voice screamed at her. Your reacting to a surplus of hormones triggered by the spores. It’s like puberty, only you never went through puberty so you don’t have any immunity.
She looked away from the XO ashamed of herself ,
“I think sir the spores are causing the release of hormones that causes emotional reactions. Osten a sullen rebeliousness. Like a teen resenting being ordered about. I am Caitan so it effected me differently.”, she started to feel deflated as soon as she said that. But she didn’t let go of his hand. With all of her being she clung to that last contact with the fantasy the spores had created, afraid she might never feel that way again.

Cadet Catt Bennet. Sciences.
OOC: Locke has been awol almost a month. Must of stopped posting just as we beamed over.

OOC: Catt, remember to keep it family friendly.

IC: Spores are one theory, sure. Just as likely was that the stress of the situation had escalated. For Catt’s part the scan wouldn’t show any spores in the air, though the argument did happen and Osten was defiantly not acting normally.

For Anderson and Tavium watching the scene was a perfect distraction for whatever lingered in the dark. Weapons no longer covering the junction, a dart came from the darkness and struck the NE in the neck. By the time the other security officers could turn around, whatever shot the dart, or thorn really, at the medic was long gone, laughter followed the assailant into the darkness.

Meanwhile the door still remained locked, but scans on the other side showed two of the people from the inside moved forward towards the door as they heard the commotion on the other side.

GM Wombat

OOC: Couple of other things for you cadets to learn here, and this was great character interaction and development by the way with what is happening in the sim, I enjoyed reading it. First, yes we did/do have an Awol member. In a Main Sim only, if you go Awol, the GM Has The Right to use your character to advance the story, especially if your char was an important part of it, so be aware of that and don’t grumble if it happens. We do it so other people can continue writing in the Main Sim. The GM cannot kill off your char, so there is that. They can be injured however…

Second, it wasn’t an issue here but note the time the little interaction and scuffle here took. Keep in mind the story that is being played and the focus of the mission, it is very, very easy to derail a sim for others by doing personal development that takes over from the mission. It could be possible that Catt and Osten would here be removed from playing a future part in the development of a sim with their antics/injuries in some cases, although that isn’t happening here and often these things happen at a GM’s request as a required part of the sim. Consequences for your actions are always something you should be aware of, including injuring or having your char put in the brig for something and making you unable to participate further in other main sim threads (except with NE’s). If you write something, be prepared to live with the consequences ;)

Third, make sure you don’t make a theory about what the GM is doing into a reality. It’s one thing to theorize what is happening from what you read, it’s another to start writing about the effects the theory is having on your character without the GM’s input.

“Hey phaser br-brain,” Osten called over Commander Harkness’ shoulder to Catt, “keep my na-name out of your grimy-y mouth, or-or I’ll give you an-another moss-ball to cough up-up. And try-try using that brain for-for once. I didn’t ha-have any moss or spores touch-ch me, I-I just got-t scratched-ed by something. No-no way I’m infected-ed.” He was still visibility shaking, and teeth clattering. He was tense, but moreso from fever at this point than aggressive intent. His eyes were unfocused, as if he was starting to feel weak.

(Wiles Osten, Security Cadet)

IC: Richards staggered back under the shock of the sharp pain that impacted his neck, a grunt coming from him as he dropped the tricorder and his hand slapped to his neck, finding the thorn lodged in it. It wasn’t in a critical part of his neck, he could feel that, and he pulled the thorn out and held it in front of his eyes, his other hand moving to the wound and squeezing it closed. “Commander,” he said, but his voice was weaker than he expected and he suddenly felt a cold chill pass through him, before dropping to his knees.

NE Richards

OOC: haha and as our esteemed CoS said, it’s totally possible for experienced players to make mistakes :P especially when we take ages to write a post and don’t check for other replies since we started our own. I have moved Osten’s replies here so we are all sorted.

Somebody take a shot at snipping for practise.

-Dave

=/\= Commander, we are preparing medical quarantine and support for the Away team. Can you hold in a secure location until we are ready to transport? What is the status of the injuries? =/\=
