After the appropriate amount of time passed, the Challenger dropped out of warp and started at impulse towards the coordinates supplied earlier. It was quiet out. Nothing on comms other than the faint distress call, and scanners found nothing but the ship, running on standby power, adrift in space.

Cadet Osten had relinquished the security console several minutes before the Challenger dropped out of warp, allowing the regular bridge crew to take over from the second shift personnel like Wiles who had monitored the ship during its time in high warp. However, Wiles positioned himself to stand beside the turbolift instead of leaving the bridge, clasping his hands behind his back and standing at attention as the ship dropped back to impulse. Unless asked to leave, Wiles allowed his security uniform to act as permission to stand guard, ready to jump in should the distress call prove dangerous to the Challenger’s crew.

Wiles’ attention was focused intently on the viewscreen as they approached the adrift ship, but his wary eyes scanned the edges of the screen’s field of vision, not staring at the ship in the center of the screen as he was sure most other officers were doing. He furrowed his brow slightly and narrowed his eyes, inspecting the background against which the distressed ship floated.

T’Kam looked over the readings that came through while standing next to the cadet in his charge. “Curious..” he whispered. “Cadet Bennett, can you scan the ship for any bio signs? We should be able to get some readings on the ships core as well, check to see if the warp core is functional or if it’s been ejected.” This indeed was a curious situation. it wasn’t often they stumbled into a lone ship emitting a distress signal. Hopefully the crew, if present would be able to fill in the gaps on what happened.

Catt ran a scan of the ship in distresses energy signature. Warp drive status, impulse systems, reacter output. Weapon readiness state, life suport status and for biosigns. The report she had seen on the ships cargo manifest had lead her to believe it was either a colony ship or a freighter resupplying a colony. So she made a poi t of looking for flora and fauna. A colony ship often carried pets, livestock and tools that would not be on a cargo manifest. Starfleet regulations often complicated the colinisation process. Colonists were building a new home, they always tried to bring the comforts of their old homes with them. So as a final last touch she looked for any signs of secret or shielded cargo areas. Star Fleet had it’s rules. Colonists had ways to avoid those rules. And if it was a resupply freighter. r time on a Orion ship had left her suspicious of so called honest traders and merchants in general.

Of course scanning for each of her list would take some time so she kept to her scanner stating what she was doing suto voice so only Lt. T’Kam could hear her. She didn’t want to interfere with normal bridge operations and by announcing what she was doing to him she allowed her superior to correct anything she might be missing.
