Cadet Rian Skene made his way down the corridor smiling politely at several officers as he passed. He silently noted all of the features as he passed by, referencing the map he had studied so he wouldn’t get lost on his very first day of duty. Rian was a mix of anxiety and excitement as he made his way, excitement for finally getting onto a ship to complete his cadet cruise, but anxiety related to failure. Confidence in his own abilities had never really been a strong point for the cadet, he knew his stuff but there was always that nagging doubt and fear of failure in the back of his head.

The young man rounded a corner and found he had arrived at his destination, the place where he would likely be spending a lot of his time on board the Challenger, Sickbay. He stopped short of the door sensors and took a deep breath. On the other side would be his department head, fellow physicians, and people he would be working with closely for the foreseeable future. Presumably, one of those fellow physicians was about to get an in depth look at the cadet’s health in the next few minutes. He was used to this having gone through medical school, but there was something different about this one, something infinitely more official than all of those practice exams that had come before.

Taking another deep breath, the dark haired cadet stepped forward and through the doors to Sickbay. He gazed around taking in the sights of the department, its biobeds and computer stations. His green eyes sparkled slightly as he realized everything he had worked toward was finally becoming reality. Rian began to feel much more at ease surrounded by the familiar medical equipment and waited quietly to be acknowledged by someone in the department.

After waiting for several minutes without being noticed by anyone, Rian walked up to one of the busy nurses in the department and caught their attention.

“Excuse me,” he called out as the nurse looked up, a bit startled from their work. “I am Cadet Rian Skene. I am here to see about having by boarding physical. Is there a doctor available?”

The nurse set down the equipment they had been arranging and glanced up and down at the cadet, noticing the blue uniform. “Hello cadet. You must be the new addition to our department? Sorry, we didn’t notice you earlier, we’ve been a little busy getting things ready for the new mission.”

The nurse looked around the department, likely trying to find one of the doctors on duty. Finding none within earshot, they gestured to a close biobed. “Why don’t you take a seat here and I will see if I can rustle up one of our doctors. Excuse me for a moment.”

Rian hopped up on the indicated biobed and settled in to wait as he watched the nurse scuttle off to find a doctor.

OOC: Hey there Rian, apologies for the late note, your DH Trinity has taken a bit of an LOA. The area she was in was hit by a storm and she lost power if I remember right. She will be back soon hopefully, and you’ll be in for a treat when she is, she is fantastic. In the meantime, hit your other threads and maybe start something with your char that others can join in. Great writing so far!
