Toby paced up and down his quarters, his antennae twirling vigorously as he did so. They often did that when he was agitated. Things had been going remarkably smoothly, his interactions with the Captain were brief but professional and he had been able to stay out of the way. That was, until the XO had died on their previous mission. Toby had been left with little choice but to take on the role, being the most senior officer on board. He had reluctantly agreed and had filed a report back to his bosses at Intelligence, his mission still stood but he was to also perform the XO duties. Toby had tried to protest but his hands had been tied so he was stuck onboard a training ship. Brilliant He had thought sarcastically at the time just bloody brilliant. During the previous mission it had been okay, they had been kept busy and he had been able to get a couple of Cadets on side and he had picked out a couple for Intelligence roles on graduation and report back on the performance of the command staff and senior officers. Predictable and basic. Except… There had been a death on board, one of the cadets had been so keen to prove her worth that she had accidentally ejected herself from an airlock. The pacing increased. The Captain had been informed and there had been an investigation, Foley now wanted to see him. Just bloody, brilliant. He sighed in frustration and anger at the Cadet, how had she been so..... stupid.... so..... careless. His temper rising he stormed out of his quarters and headed to the Captain’s ready room ignoring the Cadets in his path on the way.

It wasn’t long until he made it to the Bridge, his blood boiling and heart pounding. He jammed the chime and waited to be called in. The bridge crew did their best to not look and pretend to be busy.

“Enter,” Aaron said almost a bit to calmly. He stood looking out the window as the Challenger flew threw space.

“You couldn’t help yourself, you just had to file a report didn’t you.”

Capt Foley - CO

Toby frowned, expecting a conflict straight away. Of course he had to report it, a cadet had died. He stepped on and let the door shut. He folded his arms across his chest. A million responses plagued his mind.
“Why wouldn’t I have reported it?” He asked icily.

Commander Atob “Toby” Th’kylret (XO)

“I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt this one time, perhaps your time in the field has made you forget the chain of command.

“I can accept that you wouldn’t be my first pick for an Executive Officer. You were in the right place at the right time when we lost Commander Halcyone, and the brass decided that I needed to keep you around for whatever reason. I may not ever fully understand your motives, but as long as you were working for the best of this crew and ship, I’d be willing to deal with it.

“But what I will not tolerate,” Aaron said turning around to face Toby, “is an officer I can’t trust. An officer who decides to go over my head to the Admiralty.

“I’m still trying to decide if I even want to know what was going through your head, or if I should just kick you off my ship. But one thing I know, if your goal was to come here to push me out of command and take over the Challenger, that will only happen over my cold, dead, body.”

Capt Foley - CO

Toby folded his arms across his chest and raised an eyebrow push me out of comm… He thought, he nearly laughed at that statement but he managed to stop himself.
“All deaths are to reported straight away, I did copy you in on that by the way. Sir” He replied emphasising Sir, his tone then darkened.
“In line with Starfleet policy, I filed an initial report to yourself and the coroner at the Academy. While we’re on the subject of cold dead bodies, how the hell did Cadet Morrison end up out of the airlock in the first place? I thought there were procedures in place to prevent that from happening?” He stated dryly, obviously annoyed and wound up, his Andorian temper beginning to show.

Commander Atob “Toby” Th’kylret (XO)

“Through the chain of command. Or are you insinuating that I was not going to report the cadets death?”

Capt Foley - CO
