Cadet Voss was one of the most outstanding cadets in her class. She excelled in both written and field assessments. Her instructors noted she maintained the highest academic standards with a double major in Stellar Cartography and Quantum Computer Engineering while keeping up a busy extra-curricular slate, representing the Academy in multiple sports and captaining the debate team that had won a famous victory through superior logical reasoning to the Vulcan Science Academy team. Brilliant, energetic, and enthusiastic, Cadet Voss represented the very best Starfleet had to offer.

All of which was really lovely for Anja Voss, and explained why she was now pursuing a career as a highly rated junior officer already being tipped for future command.

As for Cadet Natalia Voss…

Natalia woke up grumpily, just in time to realize her shuttle was about to slam into the side of the Discovery-class ship. She’d turned the collision alarm off because its incessant chirping was annoying her while she tried to watch a Klingon soap opera on the navigation viewfinder. She hastily redirected the controls and tried her best to guide the shuttle in for a smooth docking, but ended up grazing the side of the ship on her way into the shuttlebay. Not only had she damaged the docking door, she’d spilled her Hasperat Nacho Chips all over the LCARS control, and her attempts to wipe off the seasoning just ended up activating the weapons array, which she fortunately managed to just shut off in time before announcing her arrival in even more disastrous fashion.

“Computer, time.”

The only thing she remembered from her Klingon language immersion classes were the swearwords, one of which she now deployed. She was more than an hour late to report in with her department head. She jumped from her seat, and tipped her Tulaberry Blast! soda all over herself, staining the left leg of her grey cadet uniform bright blue. She sighed, and vaulted down from the shuttle. She headed for the turbolift, wiping off as much of the soda as she could on her way.

“CSO’s Office,” she told the computer, and the turbolift zoomed off. She felt that familiar roll of her stomach, and clung on to the bar. When she the turbolift arrived, she tumbled out and practically burst through the office door.

“Cadetnataliavossreportingfordutysir,” she gasped in one breath. Not, as it turned, another Klingon swear word, but her attempt to introduce herself.

The Vulcan lieutenant sitting behind the desk raised an eyebrow. “Indeed.” He paused for a moment to let her breath slow, standing up while she calmed down. “Would you like a cup of tea?”

“Thank you, Lieutenant, tea would be delightful,” Natalia squeaked out.

Delightful? she mentally cursed herself. Awkward, much?

“Very well,” Salok replied, and poured her a cup - an actual teacup - from the pot on the corner of his desk. He added a few pinches of spices, then paused, apparently unbothered by the delay in actual official tasks. A PADD lay neatly by his console - apparently forgotten, though the alignment to the edge of the desk contested that assumption. “How sweet do you prefer your tea?”
