“Alright, I like to start with the easy bits,” Viveca replied, “What made you originally want to join Starfleet?”

OOC: I’m exending my LOA until the 24th, I’ll try and post sooner than that if I can, but that sinus thing got sooo much worse....I’m on the mend now, but pretty physically exhausted from fighting that nasty whatever the heck it was. :)

“The opening ‘meatball’… I can appreciate that.” J.C. smiled a bit, settling back into the chair… While his posture couldn’t quite be described as ‘relaxed’, his was at a more ‘yellow’ alert than a ‘red’.

“Sorry, Ma’am. Alright… Serious answer.” He took a breath. “Both of my folks were already attached to the Federation when I was born. Still are, in fact. My mother’s a member of the Astronomical Committee, and my father works with Terraform Command. I picked up my mom’s love of the stars early, and my dad’s love of tinkering and engineering challenges.”

“And while my old man would’ve loved for me to come on board with him,” J.C. continued, with a faint smile of fondness, “once I really got the engineering bug he knew that I wasn’t going to be quite fulfilled there. So, I’d say, mid-teens, maybe a little bit before… He suggested Starfleet as an option. I was completely onboard… So he got me in touch with some friends of his from the Corps of Engineers… And the rest was more or less history.”

OOC: You do what you need to! Get better! Rest up! You see when the Hell I’m posting… You think I’m gonna yell too loudly about it? LOL And also, I do have my character’s profile / biography filled out with some psych info… Not sure if it’ll be helpful or not, but it fleshes him out more!

“Engineering certainly has drawn a few people in over the years. My father tried to impart his talent on me, but I was more of a medical person,” Viveca replied, “Have you found a specific field in engineering that particularly grabs you yet or are you still exploring options?” Some cadets were still exploring various fields of specialty, so she was always curious to see where their heads were at.

“I’d say,” J.C. replied after a moment, his mind actually milling the question without a second thought, “for a while I was leaning towards practical propulsion on smaller scales… Lifter engines, hover devices, things like that. Then pre-Academy when my dad set me up with helping the Corps of Engineers, it was theoretical studies… Still around propulsion, so thinking about faster-than-warp, more instantaneous travel methods, things like that.”

“Once I joined the Academy, I felt like I wanted to branch out a little, so I took some electives around photonics, systems engineering… But I guess I’ve been keeping my focus on the propulsion field.” He shrugged with a faint smile. “Guess my Mom’s love of the stars kinda influenced that too… Always wanted to go to as many stars I saw in the sky as I could. Best way to do that was go as fast as possible.”
