<trim>“Come in,” Viveca called, looking up from her paperwork.

OOC: Just as a note, I’ll be away this weekend due to a family event, so my posting may be a bit delayed, I should be back to normal come Tuesday. :)
J.C. took a breath and affixed his best smile as he stepped towards the door as it parted. He stepped into the room, stopping a respectable distance from the Commander’s work area.
“Yes, Ma’am… Cadet J.C. Swishman reporting in,” he answered as he came to attention. He almost added, ‘for brain surgery’, but… Duty and making good impressions trumped humor.
For the moment, at least.

OOC: No worries and no rush! I post how and when I can with work and family and all, so… I’m easy-going! 😁
“Come on in, I hope we’ll skip the brain surgery, I’m not really set up for that,” she remarked with a good natured grin, “If you’d like a drink from the replicator, feel free, we can get started once you take a seat.”

OOC: I am back from the family event, which was lovely, but I think I picked up a sinus thing when we traveled through cold, snow and then warm and dry weather. I’ll leave my LOA up for a few more days in case it turns into something more.
J.C.’s mouth opened slightly, then closed as he grinned sheepishly… It sort of looked like a wince despite her well-meaning remark.
“I suppose I should be better about making sure my inner voice doesn’t come out inappropriately…” He ran a hand through close-cropped, salt-and-pepper hair, a long-standing nervous habit when he was… Well… Nervous.
“I appreciate the drink offer, Ma’am… This first little time onboard has been a bit more hectic than the Academy class grind I’m used to.” He walked over to the replicator, ordering up a simple cold water before returning and settling into the seat. Taking a sip of water, J.C. closed his eyes for a moment before meeting the Commander’s gaze.
“Ask me the questions, Bridge Keeper… I’m not afraid.” He half-smiled. Humor was a default defensive mechanism for him, and obscure 20th and 21st century culture was a comfy spot. The combo of the two made him feel invincible.
But J.C. doubted that would last overly long in this arena.

OOC: Sorry to hear about the ick… Hoping you feel better sooner rather than later! Glad you had a good time otherwise though!
“Alright, I like to start with the easy bits,” Viveca replied, “What made you originally want to join Starfleet?”

OOC: I’m exending my LOA until the 24th, I’ll try and post sooner than that if I can, but that sinus thing got sooo much worse....I’m on the mend now, but pretty physically exhausted from fighting that nasty whatever the heck it was. :)
