As the turbolift doors parted with their characteristic soft hiss, Cadet J.C. Swishman took a deep, calming breath.

Here he was, on his first real shipboard assignment. All the prep work, the Academy classes.

They all led here.

On the shuttle in, J.C. took the time to admire the Challenger… A truly interesting choice for an Academy vessel in his mind. The Discovery class was cutting edge, a marvel in advancements made possible by the tireless work of probably thousands of individuals.

And now he got to be one of them, however temporarily.

He made his way down the corridor towards the Chief Science Officer’s office. He found that a little odd still; when the duty officer that met the shuttle mentioned that Swishman needed to report in to the CSciO, he actually questioned the officer if they were reading the duty roster correctly.

‘A brilliant way to make a first impression,’ Swishman thought to himself with a smirk.

Thankfully, the duty officer was a bit nicer about it than most officers likely would be… They gave J.C. a friendly chuckle, mentioned something about the new CE being here soon (likely next Tuesday), and issued J.C a PADD with the CSciO’s office location on it.

And as he found himself in front of the proper door, he took another calming breath. Now was the time to get serious. Make a proper first impression.

He pressed the door chime, and waited…
