Cadet J.C. Swishman stood before the Counselor’s office door, frowning slightly.

This was the part he was relishing the least.

While he’d managed to survive the medical exam, to gloss the cause of his major scar over, to avoid any in-depth talk about it…

There might not be much hope in avoiding it here.

J.C. sighed, hesitated, his finger a breath over the door chime.

Yes, he’d talked to counselors in the past. Yes, they’d reiterated the fact that what happened was absolutely no fault of his own. Yes, they’d tried to help him talk through the grief he still carried.

But none of that changed the fact that he failed to do the one thing he swore upon his life to do.

A faint sigh escaped J.C.’s lips, and he closed his eyes briefly.

‘Better get this over with,’ he thought to himself as he thumbed the door chime, straightening up and pulling himself back together.
