As Ker’lin walks from the Chef Science Officer’s office, he checks his PADD. Next on thr list was to check in with the Counselor on board. ‘Alittle out of my comfort zone, but, thats ok’ he thinks to himself as he stops infrount of the door. He takes a deeo breath and buzzes the door to let the Counselor he was at the door.

“Come in,” Viveca called, she was seated in one of the comfortable armchairs she had placed in her office, sipping a coffee and reviewing a PaDD with her notes, she looked up and offered the cadet a smile, “Welcome Cadet, come in, have a seat, help yourself to my replicator if you like,” she nodded over to the device along one wall of her office.

Ker’lin looks around and walks in, sitting down in the seat infrount of him. He places his PADD on his lap and gives the Counselor a small smile, trying to calm his own nerves. Talking about feelings is quite out if his comfort zone.

“So, I thought I’d take a second to discuss how I typically run these initial meetings,” Viveca spoke with a smile, “Basically this is a meeting where you can put a face to my name and me putting a face to your name. So I’m not going to sit here and subject you to an interrogation or anything like that, it’s really more of a meet and greet, we’re going to be coworkers for a while. Feel free to ask me questions as well during this meeting, I don’t anticipate it being super long either. I know you’re probably eager to just hit the ground running, so I don’t like to draw these out,” she paused, “So, let’s start simple, tell me a bit about yourself?”

“Um, well, I was born on Earth, I have one older sister and two younger siblings, twins.” Ker’lin mumbled, he was trying to think of what to tell her, “I haven’t really been off planet before.” He was so awkward, he isn’t the best at telling people about himself without questions being asked first.

“Is there anything you’re looking forward to about heading out into the space?” Viveca asked, some counselors would focus on drawing out more information about family, but she often liked to focus on getting the cadet to talk about things that they were looking forward to as she often found it gave her a better sense of their state of mind heading into the mission, “Anything you’re really curious about when it comes to space travel?”

At this, Ker’lin seemed to perk up. “Yes! Discovering new species, and I don’t just mean like, sentient species, like new plants and even new types of micro species! I love learning new languages! And all about new planets!” Ker’lin explained happily, his demeanor relaxing slightly.

“It can be very exciting to discover something new, I don’t need to ask what made you choose the science department then, since it seems that you have the heart of an explorer,” Viveca remarked with a grin, “Do you have any hobbies, aside from discovering new things?”
