The ballroom was an elegant and overwhelming, its 3-story class doomed ceiling gave a sense of vertigo as you looked off into the vastness of space. The stars cast a soft glow on the gathering below it haloing the dancers below in a soft blue light. Ornate crystal chandeliers, shimmering like clusters of star’s casting life among the star filled background gave a sense of awe to the viewer, though most would not notice them. Silver lined tapestries spilled down the walls carrying the banner of the federation. The walls, a deep midnight blue, were lined with silver-framed mirrors that sent the light all over the room making the room even larger than it was.The grand staircase descended into the heart of the ballroom, its marble steps polished to perfection and adorned with intricate, wrought-iron railings trailed with silver. At the foot of the staircase, marble columns rose, each wrapped with delicate garlands of luminescent flowers that seemed to pulse softly, almost in time with the music that played. The floor was a sea of polished marble, inlaid with swirling patterns of deep blues and soft silvers, like a mirror to the sky above.
Lana stood at the top of the stairs looking for the admiral and her family, the long black dress cascaded to the floor, its multiple form fitting layers trailed down to the floor. Tiny sequins sparkled like stars through out the gown, painting a picture of the night sky. Her hair was up in a tight bun pined in place with a small tierra. crawling up here arms were black satin gloves that extended to the middle of her bicep, they were lined it silver stands the intertwined with one another and seemed to be in a spiral race to the top of her arms. Her fingers grip her small black handbag tightly, this was her favorite gathering of the year, no rank, just friends dancing and drinking the night away. Strings filled the air as people moved about the room, some dancing some talking, it was a massive hall. She stood there at the top of the stairs looking a little lost once again having to attend a gathering without her partner.
“May I?” Aaron said walking up and offering his arm towards the Commander. “You looked a little lost up here.”
Aaron was in his dress uniform. While it was not his favorite, it was something he had finally accepted as part of the job. First it started as the presentations at conferences, but it seemed like it was expected of him more and more as he climbed the ranks.
Lana looked over at the Captain and then gave a small nod. “I would love to Captian” she said taking his arm. “lead the way” she sugested motioning down the stairs. She was a beautiful woman, and see moved with an elegance that suggested this was not here first time in a formal setting.
OOC: sorry I missed this.
OOC: All ships crew are invited to the ball, This thread will run in parallel to the rest of the sim and should server as a place to get to know one another. It is a formal affair consider it black tie. Have fun with it.Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
This was John’s first time at this party he just got done talking to his old instructors and moved to the bar to get something cold to drink. He was not sure what else to do he was not very good at talking with people he didn’t know.
Cadet John Forster (Security)
Moments later a rather tall fit man walked up next to him at the bar, the tux he was warring seemed out of place on him some how, though why was not clear. He looked over the Foster a moment. “Having fun?” he asked as he got a water from the bar.
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
John looked at the man “ that suit looks a little too big for you wouldn’t you say?” He asked for some reason this man was sending off red flags in his head
Cadet John Forster (Security)
Max looked over at the man “You could say that” he said turning to scan the room some more. His eyes fell on the dance floor before he finally turned around to face the bar. “I would much rather be in a lab, to be honest, but duty calls”. He seeming anoyed that he had to be there at all.
Viveca had quietly slipped in, she was a few feet away with a drink in hand, observing the merriment. She liked the crisp lines of her formal dress uniform, but she knew many officers disliked the stiffness. She could have opted for a grand ballgown, but despite her grandmother’s best efforts to ‘turn her girlie’, Viveca grew up very much an active girl who preferred sports to less physical activities like painting or singing.
She glanced around for fellow crewmembers, just to see if anyone needed a distracting conversation. Parties like these could be nerve-wracking for hardcore introverts.
~Viveca Arlander~
Viveca was quietly observing the conversation, “I take it you’re a scientist?” She asked, “Sorry, didn’t mean to just barge into the conversation. What do you study?” She asked. They were meant to be mingling with everyone present anyway.
~Viveca Arlander~
Max looked over Viveca briefly and smiled, his lips forming a slight smirk. “No interruption, ” he turned fully around, seemingly to avoid shutting John out of the conversation by turning his back to him. His eyes remained fixed on Viveca his ice blue eyes seemed, compassionate and welcoming despite the look of annoyance that was currently on his face, at having to be there.. “Astrophysics, ” he said. “Max T’sai, and you are?” he asked.
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
OOC: So sorry I missed this reply....working retail during the holiday season certainly fries the brain.... lol
IC:
“Viveca Arlander, I’m the Challenger’s counselor,” She replied with a smile, “I worked my way up through medical, not quite the same as science, but similar to be sure.”
Capt Foley - CO
Max looked at the Captain as he wallked up with the womand he was talking with. “Captain” he said noting the man’s rank since he was in his dress.
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
“Sir. I’m not sure we’ve had the chance to meet before.”
Max looked around at the people now gathered around him. “So what do you think of the ball?” he asked his one somewhat uninterested. HIs eyes still scanning the ball for something or someone
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
“It seems very well planned out,” Aaron said noticing Max’s distracted nature. “I’ll have to admit it’s my first time here, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.”
Max turned his attention back to her for a moment, “They are not to bad the first few times, ” he noted. “I was hoping my sister would be here, she kinda gets me through these things I can be ” he paused “A bit brash sometimes” he said with a smile.
“Let it ne’r be said Starfleet is all work and no play, eh? Now THIS..... this is a party. But then, it’s not the music or the decorations that make an event like this memorable. It’s the people, and the food as a close second.”
Jak’Rash’s powerful voice carried a tone that only his closest friends would recognize. After all, if you’d only known the Doctor in an academic or work setting, you may think the man hated leisure time , as he never allowed small talk to get in the way of his obligations.
But tonight, his job required him to have a good time, and like all of his assignments Jak’Rash intended to follow his orders to both the letter and the spirit. His formal uniform appeared almost custom made to highlight his larger frame, and the blue and purple veins in his head and hands somehow accessorized the ensemble, rather than distracting from it.
“Here’s to us” he raised a large mug of beer, clearly not his first of the night.
Cadet Jak’Rash, Doctor
Aaron sighed as he catching Jak’Rash’s voice carry across the the room. He quickly scanned the room to see if he could spot Lt. Rox.
Capt Foley - CO
OOC: Was this the Captain saying, “Yo Doc! Get your rugrats in line!” LOL
Cadet Denali Neddleberg, Doctor
Viveca caught the Captain’s stare, she also glanced around for Lt. Rox. She guessed he was hoping to have the DH step in to handle things, if she couldn’t see Rox though, she might quietly see if she could monitor the situation with discretion and grace.
~Viveca Arlander~
Demil slipped into the room, dress uniform immaculate and perfectly to regulation. He may not generally have been one for parties, but uniform standards were certainly something he excelled at. Smiling politely, though faintly, he stuck to the wall, watching and trying to make sure none of the cadets under his supervision got up to anything. He too caught the Captain’s glance, prepping himself to step in if Lt. Rox wasn’t present. After all, medical and science were the closest of the departments, and it couldn’t hurt to try to foster that relationship. Plus, rules were Demil’s thing.
Lieutenant Demil Lis
Chief Science OfficerMax looked down at his tux and was now wishing he had worn his dress might have made for a nice change.
Lana noticing the look the captian gave his officer, turned to him “Would you care to escourt me to the dance floor captain?” she asked him setting her drink down on a near by table.
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
“Of course,” Aaron said as with practice ease he smiled over at Lana. “But first, Commander,” he said towards Viveca, “would you mind?” He made a pointed look over towards Cadet Jak’Rash.
“Please excuse us,” he said to the rest of the group before he led Lana towards the dance floor. “Do you get roped into attending many of these gatherings?”
Capt Foley - CO
Lana took the Captian’s arm and walked with him to the dance floor. She smiled at the question. “Not so many as you might think, I spend most my time in a lab, but this one every year.” She said turning to face the Captain as they hit the dance floor, the current waltz comming to a close. “I have been the keynote or note of the main speakers for the past 6 years so It would be rude for me not to stay.” she then twirled around. “Besides how often does a lady get to wear a dress like this working for starfleet?”
LT Cmdr Dr Lanna T’Sai
GMIt had taken Ilena longer to prepare for this party than she liked. Ril had been rather insistent that she sit down. She’d had a minor flair up of her myasthenia caused by Varnak’s Disease. She took her hypo and had to wait for it to take affect.
So now, here she was, arriving a later than she liked, but not technically late. Her hair was pinned up in a fancy knit of curls, her dress uniform pressed, and Ril brushed until his coat shown. After the flare up, she wasn’t willing to fight the dog to get out without him. He was well behaved and had attended formal functions before. She set a hand on top of his head as she glanced around the gathering and headed toward a few familiar faces.
Lt. Rox, Chief Medical Officer
Jak’Rash stood in the middle of a few other attendees, apparently unaware of the eyes of the senior officers that had glanced his way. He took a sip from his mug and let out a chuckle as he continued a story.
“The Bloodbath at Ronecill Grounds.... it was a less a rugby match and more an organized gang fight between fifteen Reds and fifteen Blues. Neither team was going to win the Kaelonian Cup, but the Purple Derby isn’t about a trophy, it’s a matter of pride. I’d spent eight years as a blue, and seven of them had ended with a loss to the Reds. My friends and I vowed to each other that it was going to be different in our final season, and as I’d been nominated the rest of the team as Captain, I took it a bit more personal. By the time the final whistle blew, nobody could tell which players were wearing red or blue, all of us were caked in a combination of mud, grass and blood, both friendly and foe. The line at the medical tent nearly saw an extension of the brawl, only without the referee’s to keep the peace. The winning side excited to gloat, the losing side eager for as much revenge as they could muster”
The doctor took another huge chug from his beer and smirked, knowing that he intentionally didn’t mention whether his side had won or lost.
