“Any specific expectations you have for the cadets or myself, Sir? There are of course their standard evaluations to pass and such,” Rox asked.

“Just that you are fair and honest with both the cadets and myself. If there is a potential problem, I want to know about it. It’s really hard to fix an issue, or help these cadets out, if we don’t know something is going on.”

“That is easily done. How are final evaluations done? Do we meet together, do I just send my final evaluation to you?” Rox asked, wanting a clear picture of the process before the time came.

“Thankfully that is one part that they have made easier over the years. For a majority of the cadets you would just send me their evaluations. I’d review them and if there are no questions send them off to the Academy. Just like once they graduate, their reviews are going to be done by their department head.

“However, for those cadets that either really excel, or need some sort of remediation, mark it on your evaluation and we’ll schedule some time to review. From those meetings I’ve written letters of commendation or more personal recommendations, all the way to having to send a cadet back to the Academy for remedial training before I’d let them step foot on this ship again.

“But like I said, probably for about 90% of cadets you’d just file your final eval.”

Rox nodded. It was business as usual in that regard then. “I’ll be thorough. Though Cmdr Lyvak complained once or twice that I was too wordy in my reports,” the new CMO grinned as if she took pride in that particular complaint.

“I also wanted to thank you for allowing me to bring Ril, my service dog, with me on board. Most people see it as a very outdated Medical therapy, but he is invaluable for me.”

“Of course. My job is to make sure that these cadets get the best education that we can give them, and what better way to ensure that then to make sure we have the best crew possible. I’m always going to select the best person to fill a position based upon the work they’ve done.

“Now to be upfront, depending on your needs this may complicate things at certain points. Such as away missions. But I figure that is something we can tackle at that juncture.”
