As Ker’lin makes his way from the shuttle bay to the Chief Science Officer’s office, he tried to calm his nerves, I mean, there aren’t that many klingons in Star Fleet, and he has really only heard of one half human, half klingon officer before. He looks around at the new people he’d be working with and he takes a deep breath. Ker’lin looks at the door to the CSO’s office, “Now or never” he mumbles to himself before pressing the button to alert the CSO someone was there. He stood patiently, waiting for them to answer.

“Enter!” came the voice from the other side of the door, and it hissed open at the command. The Trill lieutenant at the desk looked as if he hadn’t slept the night before, but a smile split his face nonetheless, pushing through the exhaustion. “I take it you’re Cadet Mitchelles? Welcome aboard.” He stood, walking around and pulling out the chair on the opposite side of his desk for Ker’lin. “Any refreshments I can get for you?”

“No thank you, and um Thank you” The Cadet says softly as he sits down on the seat. He really doesn’t have a ‘normal’ klingon demeanor about him. He seemed nervous even, but he gives the Lieutenant in front of him a smile anyway. Ker’lin looked around the office, it seemed nice, matching the lieutenant, seems he seemed nice as well, which eased his nerves slightly.

OOC: Great job so far. One note - your narrative tense seems to be slipping between past and present - past is the right one for STF! No worries if it isn’t perfect right away though, that’s what the Academy’s for!

IC:

The room was fairly open, with the standard-issue desk tucked away in a corner with a shelf of personal belongings and a small silver conference table along the transparent outer wall that was probably for when he hosted larger meetings. Demil sat back down and tapped at his console. “So, tell me about your background. Why join Starfleet?”

Ker’lin stayed silent for a moment, before speaking slowly, “Well, I was raised on the federation colony on Mars, my grandparents on my fathers side where both officers. I was quite close to them, and loved hearing about their storys of exploring and discovering new places. I suppose thats what drew me to join” Ker’lin explained. “If I remember correctly, they both served on the USS Kongo” he smiled fondly as he remembered them

“Legacy does have a lot of sway,” Demil agreed. “And exploring the unknown truly is why each of us is here - especially those of us in the sciences. I haven’t gotten the chance to review your record yet - what was your specialty at the academy?”

“Xenobiology and xenolinguistics, Though, I love studying all science” Ker’lin smiled slightly, he loved learning. “Learning and Studying new races, new planets, it’s quite calming actually”

“It truly is,” the CSO mused. “Xenobiology and xenolinguistics - not too far off from my own emphases. Did you have Professor Avena? Last I heard she was still teaching.”

“Yes, I did! She is a great Professor” Ker’lin smiled, he definitely seemed calmer now as he talked to the Lieutenant. His demeanor relaxed.

“That she is,” Demil agreed. “How have you been settling in so far? It can be quite an adjustment for those used to planet-bound life.”

“I don’t mind it! I love the view, it’s really magical! I guess it’s more the fact that it’s not as easy to see my parents in person that I need to get used to” Ker’lin said softly,

“That is certainly one of the downsides, especially on ships that go farther out than Challenger does. We tend to stay pretty close to Earth on your first missions.”
