Hello Challenger!

For those of you I haven’t met, my name is Nathan Miller, and I am the TECH Lead here at STF - TECH is the team that is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the software and infrastructure that makes up STF. Today we rolled out a new version of Exodus, the custom software that powers our bulletin boards, and with it comes a new feature for tagging characters in posts that I wanted to take some time to go over with all of you.

You will see a new field labeled Tags when you are creating or replying to a post. This field gives you a dropdown (which you can filter by typing) filled with all the characters on a ship (whether they are rostered or unrostered). You can select any that you want to receive a notification about the post you are making - from zero to all of the characters. The field fills with “pills” as you select characters - the dropdown will close after you select each character, but you can select multiple by Ctrl+clicking the charcter names. Each pill has an x on the left you can use to remove the character from the tag list. Tags automatically carry over when replying, but you can also add new tags or remove old ones. Tags can also be added or removed when editing a post.

When you tag someone, they will see a notification badge on the new profile menu on the top navigation bar, under which is a menu for “Tagged Posts” which will list each ship they have tagged posts on. These badges will show how many posts their characters have been tagged in - each post only counts once, even if someone has multiple characters tagged in it (which isn’t an issue here in the Academy, but may be an issue on some of our roleplaying areas).

Going to a ship, there will be a tag emoji (🏷️) beside each post in which you have a character tagged. Reading the post will remove the notification from the navigation bar; by default the tag emoji remains beside the post as an indicator of which posts you have been tagged in. At the top of each post is a list of all the characters tagged in that post.

You may notice that I have tagged all the current rostered characters on this post!

This new feature can help when starting new threads, as you can tag the people you want to join you to make the thread easier to notice and find, and to make it easier for people to notice when they have a reply.
