Sixteen crates of various sizes materialized into the cargo bay.

As Pilar entered the Cargo Bay, her gaze immediately fell upon the newly materialized crates. She counted them in her head.
“Sixteen crates,” she murmured to herself, “What could they possibly contain?”

She stepped on the transporter pad, and approached the nearest crate. With a careful hand, she traced the outline of its edges.

“Won’t know unless we open them.” said a new voice. Walking across the bay was a large, portly Bolian… the new Chief Engineer. He smiled and waved at Halcyone and said “You must be the XO. Sorry I haven’t met with you yet, on-boarding can be a bit hectic.” He looked at the crates and them pulled out a heavily modified tricorder. “I could probably get us a rough idea what’s in there with this.” he said, and began scanning a random crate.

Pilar watched as the Chief Engineer approached. She nodded at Tor’s suggestion, acknowledging the practicality of his approach, returned his smile and then she said, “No need to apologize, Lieutenant Tor. On-boarding is always a whirlwind. Looks like we’re diving into the action together sooner than expected.”

As he began scanning the crates with his modified tricorder, Pilar craned her next and her fingers drummed lightly against her thigh as she waited for the results of the scans.
“What do you think? Should we open one of them?” she asked in an anxious tone.

The crates all held various objects, wrapped in protective coverings ore stored in their own cases. Beyond these protective measures, the materials all came back as pottery, porcelain, metals (various compositions that included iron, bronze, silver, gold, but also some more advanced metals and composites like rodinium, bersium and pergium. There was even signs of leathers and cellulose-based items inside.

“Commander if I may,” Zunara called as he crossed into the Cargo Bay from Transporter Room One, “I believe I should open one of the crates first, it pays to be ready for anything.”
