Pilar's Musings - Holodeck 2 [Open]
Pilar’s steps echoed softly in the corridor as she made her way to the holodeck, her anticipation growing with each stride. With a commanding voice, she instructed the ship’s computer to recreate the Thelins Cross Temporal Tavern in vivid detail, her favorite refuge in Shikahr on the serene planet of Vulcan.
As she settled into the meticulously simulated tavern, a server approached, bearing a chilled, red ale, condensation glistening on the glass. There was a sense of nostalgia from the familiarity of the place and the memories it invoked.
Her thoughts were occupied by the weight of recent accomplishments, for their extraordinary vessel had just completed its latest mission. Now, they found themselves suspended in the intermission between assignments, a realm of uncertainty that required Pilar’s utmost attention.
A rare smile graced her husband’s face on the handheld communicator, and Pilar asked him, “Are you smiling?”.
“You have simulated our favorite place,” he remarked with affection.
Pilar nodded, her eyes taking in every minute detail of the holodeck’s recreation. “Yes,” she replied, her voice filled with warmth, “I love this place. It’s where I can think most clearly.” Eager to shift the conversation, she continued, “Since we’re in between missions,” Pilar said to Savid, her gaze fixed on the communicator, “we must remain vigilant and prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead. Our next mission could commence at any moment – today, tomorrow, or perhaps even a year from now. We must remain ever ready for the unpredictable.”
With her thoughts focused on the task of maintaining her crew’s readiness, Pilar turned her attention to her husband, who was silently listening. “I sense the need to engage more with the crew,” she admitted, her voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability as she thought aloud and shared her concerns with Savid.
At last, Savid interjected, his voice gentle but resolute, “May I offer some advice?”
Pilar raised her ale, its cool surface meeting her fingertips, and set the communicator on the table, revealing her husband’s face. She gazed at him with affection and curiosity. “Of course, dear… I mean Commander Tschn’Gaihi,” she replied, her eyes seeking his wisdom, “What do you have in mind?”
