Demil stepped into the labs, a PADD in hand as had become customary for the CSO. “Commander Halcyone has asked that we analyze the past records of this area for patterns and potentially dangerous regions,” he announced, motioning for silence. “As such, all non-critical research will be suspended until the end of this mission and personnel assigned to teams. I will lead one research team, Cadet Zayin will lead the second. My team will focus on patterns and irregularities, while Cadet Zayin’s will attempt to locate any dangerous regions.” He walked through the mass of cadets, dividing them between the groups. Once the department was split, he sent the second team to a secondary lab and walked to a console. “Computer, access records for this region. Split them into 10-year intervals and display each interval on a separate console.” He turned to address the team. “While of course we will also have the computer identify patterns, a manual review could also yield significant results. Please collaborate amongst each other and share information.” As everyone went to their own workstations, he sat at his desk to begin analyzing for patterns across the whole data set, rubbing his temple. The asteroid was currently in a rarely visited pocket of space that had no inhabited systems and was between major shipping lanes. Most ships went in directions well away from this small area.
