Things had been quiet for the Denobulan Doctor. He had not had any patients in a few days so wven though there was personnel in sickbay for some reason it felt awefuly quiet. The Dr told his staff to call him if something happened and then he set out. At first he walked the peremiter of the deck circling around until he had passed the turbolift twice. On the third time the man got onto the lift and told the computer to take him to a deck that he knew would be the least populated within the saucer section. He soon steped out and picked up what he was doing before except at a faster pace almost jogging. Using the Turbolift as a starting point each timw he passed the door he spead up in incraments until he was full blown sprinting around the circumfrence if the deck.
Lt. Deltor Phylox, CMO

Pilar had been meaning to catch up with Dr. Phylox, ever since he joined the crew. It had been a while since she participated in any strenuous exercise herself, however, when happened upon the designated deck where the doctor was exercising, she knew it would be a good time to connect with him. She spotted Dr. Phylox in the distance, sprinting around the circumference of the deck.

Each time that Phylox had passed by the Commander he gave a wave. He had noticed that someone was there, but he didn’t pay too much attention to the who that someone was. Or that he passed the same person twice.

Pilar approached with a friendly smile, waiting for the right moment to join him. As he passed by for the third time, she picked up her pace and matched his speed. “Hey there, Dr. Phylox! Quite the workout you’ve got going on,” she called out, trying to keep up with his fast stride. At least if she passed out, she was with a doctor who could resuscitate her.

When she began to run with him at first he didn’t notice. At least not for a quarter of the lap. Once he did however, he had slowed his pace so that she could catch him, and allow for them to more or less jog at a decent pace, one that with regular exercise was good for chatting while jogging. He gave a smile to her. “Hello there Commander, I didn’t mean to cause any disturbances if that’s why your here… I was just getting a bit of routine exercise, and both the holodecks were all full if you could imagine that. I didn’t want to intrude and Medbay has been so quiet recently that I figured I could take the time to just go for a run. As much of a run as one can on a starship anyway.” He chuckled softly.

Pilar grinned, the rush of the jog making her feel more alive than she had in a while. “No disturbances at all. In fact, I was hoping to join you for a bit of that ‘run as much as one can on a starship’ experience,” she replied, matching his smile. “It’s a refreshing change from the usual routine, and I’ve been wanting to catch up with you anyway. How’s life been treating you, Doctor?”

Phylax chuckled softly his breathing stready and even. “Good good Commander. Well experience away. Reminds me a bit of a few cadets who were applying for the command program.... and well they over did it with rigorous training. Sometimes when there was little to do I would join them.” He paused for a minute before nodding. “I have been meeing to get with you too, but things happen and whenever I would remmeber it would be the wee hours of the morning… and well I dont think you would want me waking you for a nonemergency. I try to stay busy considering I need less downtime than humans.” He said his tone remaining jovial and friendly. “Well things had gotten rather quiet… not alot going on but thats okay we can all take our time in other ways. Life is good. Just been thinking of new ways to keep everyone busy while we have hit a lul in activity.”
Dr. (Lt.) Deltor Phylax, CMO

Pilar nodded as they continued to jog, the rhythmic pace of their steps making the conversation flow naturally. “I can imagine those cadets pushing themselves too hard. Sometimes we all need a reminder to find that balance between dedication and self-care,” she mused, her gaze forward. “And no worries about the timing, Doctor. I appreciate your consideration, but you know, even us humans have odd hours when we’re awake.” She chuckled.

“It’s interesting to hear your perspective on keeping busy. A lull in activity can provide a chance for creativity and innovation. Any new ideas you’ve been brewing up to engage the crew?”

Phylox nodded and smiled,”This is true enough.” He listened and thought for a moment. “At least the cardovascular aerobic exercise does wonders for both our physical and mental health. Releasing endorphans so that we feel good and acomplished at something.” He chuckled and smiled as he fell back into a rambling thought. “As for keeping my department in check, I could take a few of them in rotations and run triage exercises to help them prepare for the worst. In times like that responce to stress will be our key determining factor on who can make it or who would crack and fold… it also helps to find the natural leaders or people who can really guide others… I’ve also thought about going through a quarentine and issolation protocall drill… medicine especially ours is mostly reactive, we try to do our fair share of preventive… but most of the time, we can’t do anything until someone is already hurt or sick, or something even worse… I know a few of them remain cooped up in the medbay too just carrying out their work maybe a good run will help bring some color to some of them, not saying that their any less excited than the rest… that passion can be detremental sometimes.”
Dr. (Lt.) Deltor Phylox, CMO

Pilar maintained her steady jogging rhythm, her mind absorbing the doctor’s words as she contemplated her response. “You’ve really put a lot of thought into fostering resilience and teamwork within the crew,” she remarked, a thoughtful expression on her face. “Running those triage exercises sounds like a great idea. Identifying those who can lead and keep their cool under pressure can make all the difference in critical situations.”

Phylox nodded. “Especially when I go into a sleep cycle. It will be good to know that I have someone I can trust to take over during those few days. Or am otherwise indisposed.” He said. “Contegnecies are important.”

She glanced at the doctor, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. “And I’m intrigued by your idea of a quarantine and isolation protocol drill. It’s true, medical teams often find themselves responding reactively, but being well-prepared for containment and prevention is crucial. It could also serve as a reminder of the importance of our roles in maintaining the health and safety of the crew.”

“I believe it is important that we prepare and have refrences for any situation that could happen and have contengencies in place incase our best laid plans go arawy.” He explained as he thought more about it a bit.

Pilar’s voice grew more animated as she continued, “As for the medics cooped up in the medbay, a good run could indeed invigorate their spirits. Maybe we could organize a joint exercise session – a chance for the medical team to interact with others while getting some fresh air. It might just be what they need to keep that passion burning without it becoming overwhelming.”

“That sounds good, maybe a joint session with some security guys for all sorts of aerobic and antiarobic exercise regimines… Though that can be discussed later.” He drew in his breath continuing to keep his breathing steady.

She offered the doctor a warm smile. “Your insights are invaluable, Doctor Phylox. We’re fortunate to have someone like you leading the medical department.”

He rubbed the back of his head. “Your words flatter me Commander. I just like to be well prepared.” He said with a smile.

Though out of breath at this point, Pilar smiled back at Dr. Phylox, appreciating his humility. “Well, your dedication to preparedness is exactly what we need in a leader. There will surely be many challenges challenges that come our way, but I have no doubt that we’ll be ready for whatever lies ahead.”
